Braces at 37!

#1 Post by anniegirl »

Hi, I have never written on a forum, but I am so keen to talk to other people in the same boat as me!! ! had braces at 16 for one crooked tooth. The brace did nothing for my teeth, I don't think the dentist at the time knew what to do with them, so they were never tightened during the time I wore them, so my tooth stayed exactly the same!!! Once I hit my mid twenties, I began to notice my teeth getting more and more crooked, until now my front 4 teeth are all overlapping!! After years of debating how to get them fixed, and putting off getting the braces, I finally got braced last Wednesday! I have opted for the traditional metal braces, purely due to the price, as I can't afford any of the "invisible" braces, as much as I would love them! So far, so good! I think I am so keen to get my teeth sorted, I don't really mind how they look with the train tracks on. It helps though that people have been very supportive; I have had people telling me how much they want braces too once they see mine! But alot of people haven't noticed them at all, until I point them out!! I have had some pain, but again, it is a small thing to deal with, when I know I will get the teeth I want!!

Congrats on taking the braces plunge and welcome!

It cracks me up that a lot of people don't notice my braces and it's interesting that you've had the same experience. I have to wonder if people just don't know what to say so they pretend they didn't notice? Or do they really not notice the metal glued to my teeth?

I think they really don't notice mine, I keep saying to people that I have them on, as I think my speech is funny, and that it is obvious that I have them. Everyone I have done this to has said they didn't notice them, so I shouldn't have pointed them out to them! It's early days, when I forget about them I will stop telling people! Mind you, I am lucky, as I only have them on the top row of teeth, and even then they don't go all the way to my back teeth, they are only on the front 9, so maybe they are less obvious than I think!

Hi everyone, I have a debrace date set, for the 27th Oct!! My orthodontist says I can check if I am happy with my progress a week before and if not I can come in to see him. I am not too excited at getting them off yet; as far as I can tell, my front two teeth don't really look straight yet, one looks shorter than the other! Could my orthodontist maybe be planning to file one down, would this be a possibility does anyone know? As they are clearly not the same length!! I have alot of confidence in him, so just wondering if anyone has had this done when the braces come off??

Glad to know that people really don't notice the metal ones. That's what I am getting in 3 weeks. I really don't mind because I am doing it for myself and it is only temporary!
