Thank you! I've been in braces for 5 months now, but after I got my spring I saw a lot of improvement in about 2 weeks.

Kitsune-

I loooved the blue ligs on your earlier braces pic. I get mine on thursday and I think I'm going to go with a darker blue.. I have read that it would make my teeth appear more white.. I don't need them looking any darker then they already are. (I'm getting them whitened at the end of treatment)You on the other hand can go with any color you want.. THey look like they have been super whitened! Like a gosh darn toothpaste commercial! lol Very nice :)

Hey lrlvdy! You are too kind! I am happy to hear that I will have another blue band buddy.

I just read your story...absolutely amazing!!!   It will be really exciting to see what shade of blue you end up with.

Blue definitely helps make teeth look whiter. I was very sad when I went from blue to those pathetic looking orange ligs around Halloween...haha.

I should have posted this a while ago, but I got sick and a lot was going on at work, so...that's how it goes.

Last weekend one of my brackets came off!! I woke up with really sore lower teeth, so I went to go check myself out in a mirror. I screamed! The bracket had slid to the side, and a big glob of glue was visible. I used tweezers to remove my lig and the bracket fell off. I 100% believe that this was not my fault in any way because this bracket was the one that had previously been removed and reapplied. I think the glue just didn't adhere to the bracket properly. This of course happened on Saturday morning, and since my ortho isn't open on the weekends, the earliest I could be seen was that following Monday. My teeth ended up moving around so much! I was deeply upset because all the work with the spring seemed lost. I was surprised they could move back in such a short amount of time.

Anyway, despite a day full of meetings, I was able to get squeezed in on Monday morning. Since it was the day before Valentine's Day, I decided to go with baby pink ligs. I told myself I would never go for pink, but they spoke to me when my ortho held up his little box full of colored ligs. They don't make my teeth look as white as blue ligs do, but I still think they are kinda cute! Also, they match so many of my lipglosses...hehe.

Hi Kitsune! I'm sorry for joining your story so late, but I just noticed your latest pictures and thought how amazing they look. I can't believe how pretty your braces actually look on you! And how beautiful your teeth are! Those pink and blue ligs are actually pretty!!!

I think I might have to consider some coloured ligs when I get the choice, though I'm a man and not sure it'll have the same effect, lol! What's a manly colour for ligs? LOL!

I totally agree with catgyrl. You have the most beautiful braced teeth I've seen. I'll try and catch up on your story more soon and take part in the discussion :)

Edit: Ah, just thought! I can't remember if I'm getting self-ligating brackets or not... May not have a choice if I do!
My Story — Braced on 2 March 2012. 4 premolar extractions. Ceramic/clear uppers, metal lowers. Duration of 2 years.

resort454: I hope you aren't having too many problems with your spacers...I really hated having them in! It's good to be excited, but don't waste too much time/energy being nervous. Instead you should be pigging out on all the "braces no-no" food you can eat!

Domino: Gosh...reading your reply seriously made me blush. Thank you!

If you are able to get colored ligs, I would definitely go with blue. From what I've seen, that seems to be a universally flattering color in the mouth (that's a weird thing to say, huh?), and it isn't overly girly either.

Thanks again for stopping by, and I can't wait to read more about YOUR adventure with braces! :D :D :D

Hey, I just noticed that it's my 6 month brace-a-versary today!!

Yaaaaaay to me for making it this far!

Time really does fly...I really can't believe it's been so long already. I hope this means that the next 12 months go by just as quickly.

Today I received my very first in person, braces-related compliment from a non-family member, non-coworker!

I was checking out at my local grocery store, making some small talk with the cashier. I noticed her staring in my mouth, but I'm used to that. Then she said that she really liked the way my braces matched my cardigan, and that she hadn't ever seen anyone do that before. Completely unintentional matching since I only get the ligs changed about every 3 weeks or so, but nice to hear anyway! 8)

My last adjustment was on Friday, March 09, but it was relatively uneventful. My ortho’s office was crazy backed up, so instead of my usual hemming and hawing over which ligs to choose, I just went with the same pink color as last time. I've found that in normal photography (i.e., not the kind I post on this site!), the pink ligs are pretty undetectable. Since I’ll be going to the opera this coming Saturday, I’d like to look classy in any photos…hehe.

This time around, my ortho put a few deliberate kinks on the lower archwire in order to coax my teeth onto the same level. We spoke very briefly about elastics, but he said he doesn’t think I’ll need them?? I was confused because I thought for sure I would, but that is good news. I haven’t taken any pictures post-adjustment because nothing has really changed…only more pain with my lower teeth, but that isn’t exactly visible.

It’s really starting to feel like spring in NYC – makes the walk to my ortho so much more pleasant! :flowerbloom:
