Yikes!! So here they are...in all their glory. That little tooth that doesn't match the others is my baby tooth hanging on for dear life. The adult tooth is VERY impacted and requires gum surgery. The other adult is hanging out behind the baby tooth that I had pulled about 4 years ago. I am SOO ready to never look at this again in the mirror!

Hi Jess

Welcome to the emotional rollercoaster called Adult braces!!! Does some of it SUCK, YES but I am 445 days into a 2.5 year sentence (though I think I will have off around 18-24 months) and all the emotions and awkwardness is SOOOO WORTH IT!!!

Your post made me cry. BIG HUGS!!! This website is the best, A great way to ask questions, to vent, to get all the sad out and track your journey to a perfect smile because everyone around you will get sick of you talking about your teeth but us :?

In no time eating pretty much almost everything will be possible and your teeth will straighten so fast you will be shocked and amazed how quick they work.

Welcome to the club and I look forward to following your journey.

Oh I am now OBSESSED !! with lipstick, more coloured lip balm actually. I never wore before because I didn't want to draw attention to my teeth and it would rub off on my upper wonky tooth. Now I have to stop myself from buying a new lipbalm every time I go to the store. :P I never go without it.

Congrats and Good Luck!! Glad you are being your bubbly self. I think I was so awkward feeling I made it worse. Be proud and keep smiling!

Elle

Thanks for the encouragement Elle! Today is the first day I feel semi-normal. It doesn't feel like I was roundhouse kicked to the face. Solid foods are still just a fantasy, sigh. My friend has the worst timing, she bought me a 2 lbs bag of pistachios without thinking....or she's just a b@*!h.

Jess: I understand completely as well. I wouldn't smile in pictures... even my wedding pictures. My confidence was low but since I've had braces for 7 months and my teeth have changed so much, you can't get me to stop smiling. Lol So It's definately worth it!

Congrats on getting braces and good luck on your journey to a brand new smile. :)

So it's been a month or 2 since my last post. I have for the most part gotten over being so insecure about having braces. This excludes one night when I was black out drunk and thought a guy made a condescending comment on my braces. Turns out he had just gotten braces off and I was being a dramatic, oversensitive idiot. It does get easier and I'm so happy with the results so far! I'm saving money to have my canine exposure surgery done, and should have the money together very soon! Well... enough talking CHECK OUT THE PICTURES!

I didn't even notice that you were missing a canine. Your smile looks awesome already. Some tentative advice- try not to drink til drunk with braces too often. If you go to bed with sugary alcohol on your teeth and don't brush them (or worse, if you throw up- even if you DO brush them immediately afterward) you can end up with significant staining and wear- much worse than if your teeth were naked and fairly easy to clean. So eat, drink, and be merry- just brush like crazy afterward and consider investing in a waterpik!!! :D

Hey Jess, I'm 24 as well and I got braces a couple of months ago, so I understand a lot of what you're saying. You shouldn't worry though - yours look really cute!

Hi Jess. I'm 24 too and have now had my braces for 5 days.

I too found it difficult talking to people and I think people would often assume I was stuck up because I didn't talk.

I know that deep down, beyond the discomfort and inconvenience of this stuff in my mouth I know it will allow me me to be who I want to be, without fear of being judged and more importantly be confident enough to be in photos with my husband and son (who is 1 next week!)

Good luck on your journey and I look forward to seeing your progress.

I also cried my first orthodontist appointment!! but now that I got braces, I'm actually excited!! Just got mine on Monday and can't wait to see changes. And while I'm still learning to feel comfortable with them, I'm starting to feel like I'm going to enjoy smiling with my braces and I know so many people who actually enjoyed having them. This is kinda like a once in a lifetime experience I can check off my list.

you'll be smiling confidently before you know it. I'm so glad I'll finally be able to put my old smile behind me :)
