Power Chain

#1 Post by Kirsten2011 »

So this week Tuesday I had my check up with the Orthodontist, during which time he filed my teeth with a little grey/silver file manually (he had previous used some device to file it, like a mini angle grinder!!) moving it in between my front teeth on the upper set, and also reshaping them again. Felt very strange indeed (!)
Thereafter he mentioned that he would be fitting something called a power chain, to close the spaces between my teeth on the upper set. No probs I'm thinking!
And then after choosing neon pink, he then places them from one inscisor across the front, to the other inscisor............. OUCH!!!!!!! :-=  :yuck: :o !!!!!!! wHAT WAS THAT??? OMW!!!
I swear i could not feel my front teeth - for at least 24 hours, and certainly could not eat anything, or bite into anything. In fact it felt as if i had just been fitted with braces all over again :? Seriously!! The pain has since subsided a bit, but not without the help of ibuprofen and sleeping tablets at night.
The 'chain' looks very cute though and i do love it!! And its just another new talking point at work and with friends :)
Flossing oddly enough, relieves some of the pressure of the teeth squashing into each other, and very thin floss is great for this.
Hopefully by this weekend it will feel much more comfortable.
My appointments have not also been made to be 8 weeks apart, as opposed to the normal 6 weeks apart. Basically, lots more force is being put on my teeth as we get to the point of moving them more back - the braces are due to come off around September this year.... and this will sound crazy, but I will actually miss them!!

Keep smiling everyone!! Love and Hugs xxx

I have something similar... my front teeth are wired tightly together with what looks like thin jewelry or beading wire to prevent gaps while they move out and forward. It doesn't hurt now, but when my ortho first put it on, there was alot of pressure right there. I find benzocaine for canker sores or toothaches applied liberally to the gums works really well... as does ibuprophen and a good rinse with warm water from a waterpik.
