I had my first adjustment yesterday! Since my schedule and the ortho's schedule made my appointment be only 2 weeks after my braces were first bonded, I thought the appointment would be uneventful and quick. Silly, silly me. I was at the office for over 4 hours yesterday! Holy crapola!

First, I had my archwire taken off for my cleaning. Oh my mother-loving goodness, that hurt so freaking bad. I was cursing and yelling the whole time. I admit I am a huge baby, but goodness it hurt! The assistant who was removing my wires was a great sport and bantered and teased me in just the right way to help me see how hilariously sissy I was being. He was awesome. I had a cleaning, which was MUCH needed! My teeth are so white now! Yay! I love my hygienist. She is wonderful, and makes me feel at ease. I had more x-rays and pictures taken, which I was not expecting. My appointment day happened to be the last day my ortho will be working in my office so she spent a long time discussing my case with my new ortho guy and then explaining to me, in detail, what they have decided my treatment plan will be.

Since I have pretty severe periodontal bone and gum loss, my treatment is not traditional. We are not doing this braces thing for cosmetic reasons, but for health reasons. To keep my teeth, gums, bones and roots healthy by improving the bite, the crowding and such. However, due to the severity of my condition, my ortho made it clear to me that we may have to stop early if we see any further signs of loss. Right now, my condition is good and has been good for a while, but if it starts progressing again, I will be debanded no matter what my teeth look like. I hope everything continues to go smoothly. I do not want to be debanded early. I do not want my periodontal disease to worsen. I just want healthy teeth, healthy gums and no more bone loss.

Without any further ado, here's my 2 week progress pictures! I think there has been a lot of changes these past two weeks! How exciting!

Bracedforbraces - Congrats on making the decision to get braces! Despite my emotional turmoil (listen to me, I'm such a drama queen  ) it really is one of the best decisions I've ever made, and definitely the best one I've ever made for my health (marrying my husband is the best decision I've ever made, you know, overall  ). While it may seem like the end of the world the first three days, it gets easier and easier every day. The pain, the self-consciousness, the adjustment - it's all getting easier and braces are becoming normal for me. It's a huge change, but the brain and body adapt quickly.

Tweety - How long ago did you have your braces bonded? Lucky you, 6 month smile girl! 6 months is going to just fly by. I am soooooo happy I have another "emotionally in touch" person to help me feel like I'm not such a melodramatic weirdo. Well, I probably am a melodramatic weirdo, but if you are too, then at least I'm not alone! You can be the company to my misery :-* . I don't about you, but in the 2 weeks I've had braces, eating has gone from being annoying because it hurts, to being annoying because my lunch stays with me for the rest of the day by sticking in my braces. Yum. I am the master of the post-lunch-swish. Butttttt, at least I can EAT!! I truly love to eat. Love love love. I thank my metabolism for keeping me at a healthy weight despite the amount of food I eat all day :-** . Anyway - what I meant to say before that tangent - if you've just had your braces put on this week, let me tell you now that it will get better. If you've had them on longer than 2 weeks (which is how long I've had mine), then I guess you're screwed. Just kidding! I hope it gets better for you soon! If food is one of the loves of your life like it is mine (for me it goes: Husband, Cats, Food), I'm sure you will find a way to make it through

Hello.... Me again :) your posts are very funny. I had my brace on 22nd feb so only 11 days it already feels as though ive had it months.... I was so shocked when i first looked in the mirror i thought it just looked enormous!! And yep i cried, in the privacy of my own home with my poor boyfriend trying to console me!! Haha. Im ok now though but still find myself covering my mouth to talk to hide it!!
I feel as though i can eat now.... Kinda scared to bite down too much but also the fact im avoiding anything that might get stuck, mini bottles of mouthwash carried everywhere too :)
Im dreaming of the day i can bite down on something yummy lol. It wont be long.... We can do this :) wondering when my next emotional outburst of me feeling very unattractive in these braces will be- not looking forward to having it tightened either as my teeth were so tender when it went on until only a day or two ago- i cant bare the thought of that awful tenderness any time soon. Have you had any problems with the brace rubbing your lip at all..... I havent as of yet luckily :)

Oh I feel you about biting down. Well, actually I don't really feel you. Even before I had braces, I never really bit down on anything with my front teeth. It's probably because of all the bone loss I have, but my front bottom teeth always feel very fragile. I'm nervous about having my bottoms put on because of that.

Don't be too worried about your first adjustment. My teeth don't hurt any more today than they did before the adjustment on Friday. Which means, my teeth hurt hardly at all. What really fraking hurt was mostly them taking the old wire off and putting the new wire on. TONS of pushing on my teeth didn't really feel great. But the pain didn't last long and there's no more pain today. Although, I didn't actually move up to a bigger wire. They put the same size wire back on after my cleaning.

I didn't have any trouble with the braces rubbing until after my adjustment on Friday. Probably because the assistant and my hygienist spent approximately 2 hours moving my lips up and down and up and down, rubbing them all over the hooks on my brackets  . A good swish with some Listerine type of mouthwash (the kind that really burns) makes the pain stop. I think the "intense" mouthwash cauterizes my mouth wounds :biglaf:!

Well, it certainly has been a while since I've taken progress pictures! I was very excited this morning to take them since it has been a month since my last set. I am pretty much astonished by the changes in my mouth. It's been 6 weeks since braces were put in and I can both see and feel changes in my mouth. My overbite seems to be increasing because I can no longer touch my front top and front bottom teeth together. I imagine that will improve when I have my lower braces put in. My little wandering canine is joining the rest of my teeth in line which is pretty neat. The absolute coolest thing though is my two front teeth which are almost not overlapping anymore! Just a little bit more and they will be separated! Of course, this separation is causing a fairly large gap to grow between my teeth, but it's hardly noticeable unless I spread my lips very wide. Check it out, guys!

Nice progress! I just got my braces put on three days ago and I've still not gotten used to them. Hopefully my progress will be just as good as yours after six weeks.

Hey y'all! I'm back with some new pictures for you guys! Are you excited? I'm sure you are. This Tuesday marks 2 months since braces and I thought I'd take some progress pics to celebrate. I'm not sure if there is much change. Everything seems to be going soooooo slowly. I cannot wait to get my bottoms on already, though. People keep asking me why I don't have them and I actually really don't know. My ortho was not very communicative about it. Soon enough.

Woo buddy, my midline is sure getting to be pretty off! When I was taking the pictures today, I kept wondering why I couldn't seem to center my face in the camera. Now I know. It wasn't my face, it was my teeth! LMAO.... hopefully THAT get's squared away soon!
