lol, i am not sure why my previous post had all those spam words in it. it should have read p.a.n.a.s.o.n.i.c. there is no plug for this one. it is battery operated and portable.

yes i can see that small gap in your teeth that was not there before :)

hi dom i have just had my braces put on yesterday and am trying to be sociable! i have four extraction gaps too and when i bite together (not fully mind you as its too painful!) and look into a three way mirror they create a tunnel that you can see right through. so as a result i'm trying not to smile too wide/at all at the moment! do you have any idea how long it'll take to close the gaps? i am going a bit insane thinking about it. i love your teeth by the way very nice shape and bright white. i have turned into a tooth obsessive and now when i talk to people i keep looking at their mouths without meaning to as i my head i'm sure they are looking at my braces and thinking ''what the hell???''

Hey, nogoingback!

Hehe, yeah, it takes a while to get comfortable with them. I'm quite conscious about the holes, too. That thing with the mirrors sounds quite amusing so I'll have to try that sometime!

From what I've read on the forums, people seem to think it can take from 6 months to a year to fully close. I'm not sure if this means from the start of the plan or not, or 6 months from when you get elastics on? It's a considerable amount of time, anyway, unfortunately.

Thanks very much for the compliments :D It feels really nice to hear! I think the photos make them look whiter than they actually are (some are whiter than others, and a lot are really yellow at the very bottom, eek!), but I'm happy you think the shapes are nice :) I think they should be pretty nice once they're in their correct position, hehe.

Yeah, I keep looking at people's mouths so much more now as well. I'll admit before that I used to quite often, too; it seems to be an area I focus on when watching people talk, particularly on TV/films. The first few weeks I kept seeming to notice lots of people with braces as well, not much different to my age!

It's funny how little things change once you get your braces on :) I doubt that many people really taking much notice of braces, nowadays, so I wouldn't be too worried about it :)

Oh, and a quick update! I had two huge bone fragments come out of my bottom left hole (the huge looking one which I had dry socket in), and it was such a relief; the gum looks so much better immediately the day after. I think I'll post more pictures after my first adjustment on Tuesday :) I'm definitely seeing some difference now, the top of the bottom teeth are seeming to align more, so should hopefully be evident on the front photos.

Well jeff, if u find this site a problem, then perhaps u shouldnt be on here. I don't appreciate u saying those things when wearing braces as an adult is difficult enough. If u can't be sensitive to our feelings, then please keep it to yourself

Thanks, Anngie :) Just to be clear, I had the post you're referring to removed for obvious reasons to anyone who read it (thanks bbsadmin! Appreciated :)).

Jeff, if you're going to post again, please keep on topic. I don't appreciate rants/insults towards the site in my own thread, especially as it was only your 2nd post on here.

well done for getting that post deleted. i tried to navigate the site to report it last night but failed miserably.
anyway about that bit of bone/root that came out...well i have a really sharp bit by the gum of each of the now departed lower premolars and am now suspecting that they may be left over pieces. am having my check up at the hospital next week and will ask them about this.
looking forward to posting some pics and comparing to yours as soon as i figure out how to get them out of the camera and into a post.

Thanks! :D

Ah, is the sharp bit quite low? I noticed this on both sides, in fact, and first noticed it over a month ago, so I assumed it was part of the permanent socket. I think my ortho even thought that. It was actually protruding a bit. But it has definitely come out now ;) It's so satisfying, hehe, and it has healed really fast since. It looks so much better now.

Good luck with your check up! I look forward to your pics too :D I'll post mine sometime after Tuesday after my first adjustment.

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled several years ago I had the same problem in one of the sockets. I also got dry socket in one of them and a week or so later a shard of tooth came out and it was such a relief.
you are a week ahead of me but I had to reschedule my first appointment a week sooner than it was supposed to be so I am getting my first adjustment this week as well, on tuesday.
I'm kinda looking forward to it because I have a few questions about this goofy baby tooth that is in my mouth, wondering if it wouldn't be better if it was just pulled. Maybe not...but I'm going to ask.
I'm curious how open was your ortho with your treatment plan? my ortho explained some of the things, like the turbos and taking pressure off my jaw, but implied that it may take some adjustment to find a good solution as we went on. In fact he told me to be patient with him that it make take a couple different options before we find the best thing to fix my teeth/bite.
I don't know maybe I'm just impatient I want to know what the time line is, and that my not be possible. As my teeth may not cooperate with the schedule :)

Oh well. I hope your adjustment goes well.... here is to as little pain as necessary

Hey Elizabeth!

That's cool you get to you have yours early now and on the same day as me! Funny enough, I know a lot of people on here that are also having their adjustment on Tuesday.

My ortho hasn't been as open about my treatment plan as he possibly could have been. He went through it briefly at my original consultations, explaining I'll need elastics, but I can't remember much detail (nothing was certainly written down, anyway). It might just be my memory, but I've never felt he's been very explicit. I don't mind, though, I'll just take it as it comes :)

Thanks! I hope yours goes well too :D

Thanks for the messages! Haven't taken pics yet, but thought I'd update as you were asking ;)

It was pretty uneventful, actually! He had a look and said the progress looks good (and I've been brushing great, yay!), but he'll be keeping me in the same wire for another 6 weeks, as he said gentler pressure is more beneficial for movement at this stage. He changed my ligs, of course, so they look lovely again (I had been eating loads of curries last week, haha!). Teeth are a bit sensitive now from the ligs change, especially one in particular which was twingy before anyway.

I also asked him about closing the gaps down the line. He told me something interesting I didn't realise for my case: I may not actually need elastics! I'll likely be getting powerchains instead, though elastics can still be used depending upon what needs to happen with the back teeth. I forgot to ask him more about powerchains, but I guess I'll know more when the time comes. I expect they're nicer than elastics because they don't need to be constantly changed?

I'll post pics when I get round to it! Going to London tomorrow, though, so will be quite busy the next few days ;)

Hello :)
We got braces in about the same time :D. I got mine on March 10th. I'm glad I found someone that will be going through this at the same time...although it doesn't really make a difference..it feels better :D

Dom - Sounds like a good appointment mine was pretty uneventful as well. Though I got a new wire on the top and some steel ties on the bottom. My teeth are aching already.

London huh? Sounds like great fun.... I'm stuck in Oklahoma but I would love to go to London some time.... :)

Hi Maia! That's great :D It's awesome being able to share your experience with someone else doing the same thing about the same time :) I know a few people here (most have posted in my thread!) that have started around the same time too :) Would love to hear more from you and read your story!

Oo, not sure I know about steel ties? Mine are still aching a bit from just having my ligs changed! Maybe it's the sudden stopping of the pressure and then starting again that causes it.

London is great :) I'd love to go more, but I live just over 100 miles away (that's far in the UK, lol), so I can't as often as I'd like.

Oh, I forgot to mention! My second adjustment has been booked for 22 May, providing I can make it when the time comes ;)
