Day 1 and struggling

#1 Post by klhnz »

Day 1 for me and I'm thinking "what have I done??"... I have metal braces on my bottom teeth only and it feels like I am wearing a bulky mouthguard on them. I feel slightly achy but the main pain is the inside of my mouth from the braces rubbing. I struggled to eat as my back teeth don't touch when biting down due to the braces. Struggling about how I look and how uncomfortable I'm feeling right now. I've been reading a lot of blogs and am holding only the fact that people have said these feelings will pass.
Just feeling very miserable right now!! Sorry about the rant.. Just a tough day!

Hello! It's day one for me too, and I'm totally with you on the bulkiness of the mouth, my mouth feels huge and feel like I can barely keep my lips shut!
I'm sure we'll both get used to them pretty quickly though :D

klhnz - you are not alone. After reading tons of posts and stories here the last few days I decided to register. I love the sense of community and camaraderie. I got my braces on last week, and have alternated between "OMG WHAT HAVE I DONE" and "OK - this was a good decision". Just stay strong :D

Hi, Its day 8 for me and I really am starting to feel a bit better. Just like you, I thought what have I done? The pressure in my teeth was unbearable at first and the insides of my mouth were shredded - these things have both improved quite quickly. The brace still feels huge inside my mouth and my top lip keeps getting stuck on the top brackets - not a good look! My main problem is with eating. Its not so painful now, its more that I can't seem to make my mouth work properly, if that makes sense. It feels like having to learn to eat again from scratch.

It is so lovely to get some posts... thanks for your encouragement.
Day 2 is starting out ok... Tried to eat a banana for breakfast but couldn't so switched to yoghurt which was great. Still my main soreness is the rawness inside mouth. Tried the wax for the first time today and it did help somewhat. My tongue is very sore from a small sharp edge from one of the caps (think thats what its called?) at the back. Maybe I'll have to ring to get it filed down.. what do you think?
Trying to be more positive but its hard... totally knocked my confidence, which at the best of times is shaky! Being more proactive re dinner tonight after last night disaster. So salmon (really hoping I'll be able to eat that) and a parsnip/carrot mash.
The whole cleaning thing is a mission and my gums are very sore today but i think that is from brushing them so often. I can not floss as I just can't get the floss inbetween the front bottom teeth.. too tight!

Again thanks to those who posted... seriously I was really struggling and in some way it totally helps knowing others are going through same thing.
xx
