Hey Kip! I'm a March baby and I have thought how awesome it would be to get mine off in March--but I'm not counting on it...soon though....and a few of us are celebrating by going to Hawaii!!! (Well, they're going--but I'm celebrating--and we're getting our tickets after I get a deband date.)...

It would be so cool if a lot of us--you, Beauty is Pain, etc who got braced at about the same time--get them off around the same time!! I am getting excited--but have to wait until Feb. 5th to see where I'm at. I haven't asked the ortho when I'm getting my braces off, but I think I will finally bring it up on Feb 5th if he doesn't....we'll see!

Hey Klobird! Keen to see those pictures of yours :) I can sense it looks great! hahaha I am a March Baby also, coincidence much?! A birthday present would be amazing in the form of eh..um, a debanding date, I am already thinking of the brace-free ways of eating, nothing getting stuck anymore!!

Hawaii sounds like a dream! Ohhh, congrats on your new job!!! :) Woot! Wow, your adjustment interval is long...unless I missed something (which is highly likely, since I haven't been on here for ages).

MOVE, those teeth, MOVE :)

Yep Eb--it may end up being Norway!! Believe me, I want to come--but Hawaii from here is not that far away, and much cheaper to get to. And warm.... But I'm still considering Norway as an option!

WOW!! I feel like a queen--Belistic, BIP, and Eb all at the same time!! Are we all getting a little anxious??!! Great to hear from all of you!!!

Ok--2 days at my new job. I think it's going to be a really good change. Not as overwhelming, great benefits (it will cost me ZERO $$ if I end up in the hospital!) My deductible is only $350 and the RX coverage is really good. Other good benefits too...The only thing I don't like is that I'm also working at nights for my old employer to wrap things up...2 jobs... :yikes: (but I'm working--so  )

OK Eb--I am going to e-mail pics to you this weekend OK? It's weird, because to me, they still look the same as the last update a while back...but definitely not the same as when I started!

iBorg, did you have double jaw surgery or single? How did you go with it in regards to recovery and such? And long term?
I'm having braces put on tomorrow morning and have surgery in my future :(

Not to hijack......

Both jaws were advanced 24-26mm.
My recovery was very smooth in regards to others but still not easy. One bit of advice I got that I thought was weird was to be as active as possible after the surgery. Walk every day. The night of the surgery I walked the halls several times with my wife to steady me.

Try to get good ice packs. There was a jaw wrap available when I had mine which unfortunately isn't now. This and the exercise I think were major factors in my recovery. At one month I was told by my ortho I looked to be three months out of surgery.

Learn as much as possible so you know what to expect. There WILL be periods of panic and disgust after the surgery but if you know this going into it, that makes it easier. Know what you'll wake up with. I was told to expect a splint and to be wired shut. Mine was a huge advancement. Once I actually knew what was going on, I was surprised to only have rubber bands.

Get a handle on nutrition before surgery as well as post-op care. Any acidic food is off the list. That eliminates citrus and tomato based foods.

You need 24/7 watch for about a week after. HAVE someone with you the two nights you're recovering. My hospital nurses were terrible.

Know this is a difficult surgery. I'm happy with the results. If I hadn't had it, I know my health would be much worse. It isn't without risk, I have residual numbness in my lower lips, but it MAY be worth it. YOU need to decide that. For me it was. The younger you are the better. My surgeon said he had three types of patients, those under twenty, he could almost guarantee full recovery. If the patient was between 20-40, it could go either way. If the patient was over 40 (I was almost 50), he could almost guarantee some nerve damage.

If you'd like me to follow along your journey, let me know.
I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
But who's counting?

OK, so I sent one picture to Ebony in Norway (I send them by way of cell mail).
I'm not sending more because I think my teeth look like sh*t right now. I didn't realize how icky until I started taking pics to send to Ebony so she could put them on here.

Bottom line--my teeth have never been white at all, but OMG :yikes: , I don't ever remember them being this grey, yellow, icky before. And they don't look any better at all to me than my last pics--they look ickier!

They do look much better than my initial ortho pics (as far as straighter--but they were whiter back then) which I will also send to Ebony to put here, if I can figure it out...

So anyway, I don't think they are ready to come off at all--I really don't. I will be seeing the ortho on Feb. 5, and we will be having a little chat...As far as the icky color--my birthday is in March, and I will be asking for MEGA,ULTRA,SUPER POWERED white strips to use just after debanding. FOR SURE!!! :paperbag:

Well, I'm sure Ebony can whiten them for you. Also, changing them to black and white takes all that yellow nonsense out!

Haven't forgotten about the pics...I wish I knew how to get them on here myself...anyway, I'm kinda looking forward to see how they look on this blog (in a very scared kind of way..)!

I have an ortho appt. on Feb. 5th. I am going to ask, for the very first time, when my braces are coming off. It will just be really nice to get them off. After this long, my braces being there are very low on the list of things I think very much about. But I do want to get them off. I'm ready!
