Lol yes, I gave up on straws. Like you said, it still felt like there was drink going everywhere anyway
LOL! yes! i should make a jumper saying "Yes I have braces, Yes they hurt, BECAUSE THEY JUST DO!" lol! GOLD! hahahaha
Rhibee, you worry too much! LOL just chillax and let your orthodontist do his job- you are paying him lots of cash to get this done- Although I don't know what I would do if you did relax- I mean I wouldn't have your oh so entertaining posts to read
Just kidding (well not about enjoying reading your posts, I enjoy those a bunch ).
Rhibee, you are great! don't change LOL except your teeth that is LOL
I have the benefit of being around a number of 13-17 year olds that either currently have braces or have recently just finished with them- so I get to ask them questions all the time-
Based on their answers, Kids should not be allowed to have braces! LOL They don't know a darned thing about compliance- I have been "counseled" that all manner of things are just fine and not to worry - go ahead and do it- of course these are all things my ortho explicitly told me NOT to do.
I personally am going for the most compliant of the millenium award LOL

aww haha thanks
LOL! i bet if you asked kids "should I eat this chewy toffee?" they would go "um i dunno, just do it" LOL... kids are so silly and funny hahaha!
hahaha I actually haven't done anything YET that my ortho has told me not to do. I haven't eaten lollies or hard things however, I haven't really been cutting back on my sugar intake! OOPS... but i do brush morning, after lunch and do the most longest 20 min clean ever at night LOL its like a full on dental routine i have going on haha so hopefully that should be enough! maybe I can't be in the running for the most compliant award with you? lol! apart from sugar from icecream and alcohol, maybe I can be a runner up? lol
I never said I avoid alcohol or sugar- I am a sucker for a prickly pear margarita- the most divine alcoholic beverage on the planet! I just have insane brushing habits- 5 times a day..
1-when I get up
2-after breakfast
3- after lunch
4- after dinner
5- before bed (that would be the 20 minute tooth spa ritual)
I also do a quick brush if I eat anything between meals (like i have time to snack with all the brushing I already do)
I have already had kids tell me I could chew gum, eat taffy and caramels (they did make note that i would have to be careful) LOL

mmmmmm yum!! that margarita sounds good!!
I brush when I get up, then I eat breakfast at work (normally oats) then I just swish water around after, then I eat morning tea, normally mashed up banana in a bowl lol then swish, then eat lunch and have a coffee, then I brush after lunch and coffee, then have afternoon tea, normally yoghurt at the moment anyway or some kind of cake LOL, and then swish and then go home, have dinner and then brush before bed with my spa ritual lol. I was going to brush 5 times a day but then thought about reseeding gums etc I have heard people getting from brushing to much. I use a electronic toothbrush at home (morning and bed time) with an orthodontic head on it and i love it. gets in under the wire without having to move around to much! then at lunch its just a manual brush. I only floss at night time.
hahahah i sometimes think it would of been easier to have braces as a kid, not googling and freaking out about stuff lol.

I hear you! the internet can be a dangerous thing LOL- I have a list a mile long of things to ask the ortho when I go in on the 8th. When I got braced I was in too much of a daze to even think of questions to ask-I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I actually went through with it

I always go in and ask a million questions, i bet they hear the same thing over and over again lol, but i need to know this stuff!!! hahaha.
Plus, blacking out your eyes makes your profile look different to what it does in other pictures! (Weird that, but it does!).
You're gorgeous, you will remain gorgeous! I know it!
And lol @ kids and compliance. My daughter has done every single thing she probably shouldn't have. Bubble gum, sticky lollies, toffee, sugar, fizzy drink, not brushing for who knows how long at a time, never flossed, not even once and yet every time she goes to the dentist or the ortho they tell her what a great job she's doing and how well she's brushing
Hey don't generalize! I'm a kid and I'm compliant (somewhat) about my oral hygiene! (Is 16 still a kid?) well because I really wanted braces and finally managed to convince my parents, so I will not take them for granted I still eat sugary/chewy stuff but I brush as often as I can and I floss every night!
Went to the engagement party on saturday night, felt incredibly self concious and specially once again, when friends of my boyfriend's family were saying hello to me and notice my braces and just stare.. it makes me really mad... anyway, I was having many wines lol and my boyfriend said to me "there is another brace face over there" and i automatically go "WHERE!?" and I saw her and she was my age, and i thought OH MY GOD i HAVE to talk to her. It was like, the awkwardness and self conciousness just went away, like the weight of the world fell off my shoulders, i know it sounds stupid but that is what it felt like. Anyway time past, and I got the courage (thank you wine!) to go and talk to her, I WISH I NEVER DID.
She was having EXTRACTIONS REVERSED!
BUT she had had teeth extracted when she was 13, just a little kid, and she basically told me that they retracted her teeth to far and she got TMJ issues! and clenched and grinded her teeth, and she said she has had her braces on for 5 years so far to re open the gaps... Needless to say, this scared the crap out of me... I told her about my extractions and she said I should of got implants if they were baby teeth that had to come out (I am thinking, yeh... and do YOU want to pay for those!?) anyway she then said as long as I can control the amount they pull my teeth back I should be ok, but don't let them do anything that I don't want them to do. I left the party feeling flat, scared and worried... and wishing I never met her, let alone spoke to her.
anyway.. on another note. I think my left top arch is moving so much faster than my right side. is this normal? I can floss so much easier, and i can feel now a bracket rubbing up the top (the one with the elastic knob on it) and i couldnt feel that before where as the right side doesn't really feel any different.
I am not really in a good mood today, I really just want to crawl back in to bed and I am left with thinking what on earth have I done, and my whole face is going to change...
Sigh....
i totally read this post feeling so bad for you!!!! talking to other people about their experiences can be bad and good, good if they tell you what you wanna hear, bad if they tell you horrifying stories!!! orthodontics has come along way even in the past 10 years! I think that you doing the extractions was a good choice, you still had baby teeth for christs sake! Some people just HAVE to many teeth in their mouth! your not going to a cheap ass ortho your paying good money as someone else stated, your not just at a rinky dink place where they just want you in and out really soon. and you are an adult now, yes pulling teeth as a child i feel is a bad idea, because your not done growing and the ortho has no idea how your jaw will finish growing or even all your facial features!!
and as far as your profile pics you are crazy, you do not look like a monkey you silly!! lol you have a great profile and it will just continue to look better as your teeth straighten out and move inward!
i really enjoy all your updates! i wish i wasn't so busy (and lazy) to post more on here!!! haha
hope all is well and STAY OFF GOOGLE!!! haha

hope all is well and STAY OFF GOOGLE!!! haha
I know!! i wish I never spoke to her, but your right, having teeth out at 13 and stuff, your not fully grown and so all I am thinking about is she was young and it stuffed up and I WILL BE FINE lol.
LOL!!! i just feel like I have big cheeks! hahahaha. thanks hun, i hope it looks better as my teeth straighten maybe it will be an improvement!
glad you enjoy my crazy updates lol and yes I WILL STAY OFF GOOGLE lol
I have to renew my liscense picture, and that means, having a photo with my braces for the next 3 years I think it is!
If i was you, would you smile with your braces on (remember, its only been 20 days for me lol) OR would you attempt to smile with your mouth shut and showing no braces? (i do not often smile with my mouth shut as snaggle tooths tend to appear somehow! lol)
hrmmm i might have to practice a good smile and try and re do it for the actual photo LOL
on another note.... drinking coffee and dipping chocolate into it IS A GREAT IDEA EXCEPT I am finding chocolate really hard to eat (as I cannot bite into it and if I suck it it gets stuck on my nance button) it was delicious, but MESSY lol. Just brushed my teeth, ugh i HATE the residue that chocolate and coffee leave on teeth, GROSS lol.
