6 month smiles are going on 22/8/13

Hi

I am read through loads of posts on here about 6MS, so I thought I would track my own story on here.

After a long decision making process I am finally getting my braces on 22/8/13. these will be for upper and lower teeth and my dentist has already said I will need at least 7/8 months with the braces on, due to the severity of the crowding and twisted teeth!

Anyone else about to start their treatment??

I should probably mention that I am 32 and at the age of 14 was offered a metal brace via the NHS. The process was so horrific that I walked out of the moulding appointment (much to my mothers horror). I have always maintained the six month visits to the dentist but under the cloud that "she was the one who walked out". (And I should probably confess that I did call him a rude name).
Luckily he retired and gave way to a more modern thinking dentist and he sees no reason why I would have needed the full metal brace that was stipulated in my notes.
So my old dentist must be chuckling away like mad thinking of me about to have braces put on!

Congratulations! I am getting my 6MS off today and can tell you it's great! Teeth move so fast you will notice it almost every day! It is going to be painful at the beginning but believe me, it's worth it so much!

Will you take pictures of your teeth before the treatment so we can see the changes?

Thanks for your post. Yeah I will take some shots just before brace goes on and then I will take some more once the brace has been fitted. Hopefully by then I will be able to post them on here!

Quick question, will I be able to use my electric toothbrush with the braces on???

I am starting to make a list of foods which will be good for the first few days! Any ideas?

Welcome to the 6MS club. Yes, you can get orthodontic attachments for Oral B electric toothbrushes. I couldn't live without mine!

I have just has a call form my dentist to say that one of the impressions they took has not worked. I have to go back in tomorrow to have it re-done! Frustrated is not the word as this means my fitting date will have to be moved and my dentist goes on holiday for two weeks on the 23/8

My main frustration with this is that because I am a teacher I really wanted them doing in the six weeks holidays so I could get used to them before an went back to school in September. I could scream!!!!!

Well after all the faffing about they are finally on! Really struggling to eat but not in that much pain. I slept ok last which considering I feel like I have Lego in my mouth is not bad! Will try and upload pics

So I am nearly a month in and things are going ok. Still struggling with food and my bite seems to be changing in the last few days.
I'm hoping you might be able to spot some movement!
