Re: Braces to correct an open bite
Wow, awesome progress! It's seeing pictures like these that make me feel confident that I can achieve good results for an open bite without surgery also. I was given an estimate of 15-24 months and told not to expect perfect results but that it would be better than it currently is.

Thank you, metalmomma. And seeing your pictures, I am sure you will have great results without surgery! Your teeth look much better than my before- pictures, so I think you can be confident.
Were you also recommended surgery for the best results?

I wasn't offered the surgery by my orthodontist but he showed me my xray and explained that my open bite is skeletal and that i shouldnt expect perfect results, but it will be better than without treatment.
Re: Braces to correct an open bite
I am sure you will get a great result, metalmomma, even if your open bite is skeletal. I am sure the braces will do wonders and will be good at disguising your skeletal problem!
Re: Braces to correct an open bite
Hello!
And here are some progress pictures after having been in braces for 11 months now:
As you can see my crossbite has (almost) gone, the upper molars are not inside the lowers anymore. That makes me very happy!
But for the rest, I don't see any progress between month 9 and months 11, unfortunately, but maybe I am wrong?
My midline is still very off centered. I have been wearing an elastic for one months now to correct this, but I think it hasn't been of much help.... I hope my ortho can do something else about this. We will see when I go in on Thursday!

Looking so great!
Re: Braces to correct an open bite
Thank you, Beckyboo!
I had my adjustment today and I have to continue wearing the elastic to correct my midline. And the ortho made some new bends in my wire. He is satisfied with my progress and said again that I don't need surgery (still can't believe it!!!).

Hello!
Today is my brace anniversary: I am in braces for exactly one year now.
Here is a picture of my progress.
Over the past two months we have been working to improve my midline with elastics and I think it has worked (although still not perfect it has improved as lot!). Now I am in box elastics to fix the cant in my smile and lateral open bite in my premolar en molar area, I hope it will work!

Been in braces foreverrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
Re: Braces to correct an open bite
Thanks!!! I still have left till this Summer, so not long anymore!
However, I am still a bit worried about my lip incompetence and mouth breathing, I may want to talk to a surgeon about this again.... Hopefully something can be done to fix this also, at least to some extent.
But I agree, my teeth are looking so much better than a year ago, and that is something I am very thankful for!
