Hi guys
I wanted to share that today I got my 6 month smile fitted in! The process was okay, bearable
As soon as I was done the first thing I noticed was my speech lol especially anything with a SSS but you get used to it. The braces do feel awkward and sticking out. I'm finding it hard to seal my lips for long then it starts feeling uncomfortable. I have tried to eat and have felt pain in the first day. Stuck to mash and soft things. Teeth feel almost dense and sore, hoping it goes away.
I had braces when I was in school but I lost my retainers, so 20 years on now one or two teeth slightly misaligned but nothing major for some reason the six month smile seems more bulky and sticking out then the metal ones I had in school. I was advised by the ortho when brushing not to brush directly on the braces but use the brush above and below the braces at an angle, also recommended flossing and a sodium fluoride toothpaste which is only available on prescription in the UK, I was able to buy this from them. The mentioned to stay away from hard foods and tea and coffee, but being a heavy tea drinker they said I could use a straw so the tea is not touching the wires this is so that they don't get stained.

Re: 6 month smile
Hi there. I got mine fitted the day after you! Would be so nice to chat to someone who is going through it at the same time as I've never spoken to anyone about adult braces. How are you getting on? I found the first week flipping awful (I was hugely self conscious and had terrible ulcers). I'm feeling fine now... Just can't wait to get them off. My teeth have moved a lot already which is encouraging. Had my first adjustment this week which was painful at the time but I've had no pain since. I was told to expect 8-9 months of treatment as it is my canines which are the main problem and they take longer to move, apparently. Another 8 months feels like forever!! Hope you're getting on ok.

Hii
I've just had my 6 month smiles braces fitted on Thursday. Had a dull pressure sort of pain for 3 days after it then it went away. Still sticking to eating soft foods though as im paranoid i will break a bracket how are you getting on with yours? I'm hoping my teeth move fast & can get them off sooner than 6 months here's hoping

Hi
I've had my 6 months smiles braces on for around 7 months, you do get used to them, honestly. I brush my teeth a lot and have found that they dont stain if you do that. But, if you get elastics or o rings they do stain! But they are changed so often, at least then you dont have to put up with them for too long. Occasionally I forget i have braces, I never thought I would say that! The adjustments are uncomfortable, and change of wire, not too bad. I had IPR done, that is very unpleasant! But all in all my teeth have moved loads and I have around 3 - 4 months left. Don't be surprised if you have strange gaps appearing in your teeth, its normal! I took regular photos at the beginning, and if you do that you will see how much they move! Good luck and it is so nice to speak to someone else who has SMS!! Keep smiling

Hey! I know this post was from ages ago but i have my 6 month smile brace fitted a few days ago and the pain has been agonising! I haven't been able to eat anything that i can't just swallow and my whole mouth just hurts! I have also been asked to wear elastics to sort my bite- but because of the pain i just haven't put them in- not sure if anyone experienced the same sort of thing? Let me know x

New-braces pain is very common and will soon pass. Most of us stick to a soft food diet for the first days or week. In the meantime, take some ibuprofen and experiment with warm or cool compresses or beverages; some relief is certainly possible.Ciaralouise123 wrote:Hey! If you choose not to wear your elastics, you will extend your treatment time, so I would certainly recommend that you start getting used to them. They may feel especially tight for the first few days, but you will adjust to that too if you actually wear them.
