Sky Wolf's Story

Today was my second retainer check. Hard to believe its been 9 months since my braces came off. Today was also simple and easy. He checked again and nothing changed this time at all my bite is still flawless everything went perfect. I am now allowed to ween myself off of wearing my retainers during the day. ^_^ I go back for another visit next April.
Two days ago I had my third retainer check. He took my retainers out had me bite down was impressed as my bite is still as perfect as the day my braces came off. Replaced them and he told me I will continue to wear them only at night for as long as I want to keep my results. Which is indefinately. Very fast appointment as usual. I go back next April. I am so happy that I went through with the braces.
Today I have been brace free for two entire years. I still have beautiful straight teeth and I still faithfully wear my retainers every single night. I still notice my teeth shift every once in awhile but I know I have the ability to maintain the results. It was so totally worth it to have the perfect smile I always wanted. Now if losing weight could be as easy.

Re: Sky Wolf's Story
So as of April its been 3 years since I got my braces of. My ortho was very impressed with that fact that I still wear my retainers religiously. My results are exactly the same as the day the braces came off. I am still thrilled with my results and I only wear my retainers at night for 5-6 hours while I sleep. All in all its not bad and I'm glad i went rhough with it now. I go back every year for a retainer check. ^_^
Re: Sky Wolf's Story
So here, I am today six full years after my braces came off. I have worn them religiously every single night since they came off. I was supposed to go in for a retainer check today but that appointment was cancelled not that it matters really because after having them for six years my top retainer snapped while I was sleeping. I had to go get a mold done and this time I decided to be totally boring and just get a metallic black I think it is called metallic galaxy or something. I go to pick it up on the 23rd of April. I still wear my bottom one every few nights to make sure but since they made it, sound like a retainer breaking after this long wasn’t a big deal. I probably won’t waste time going to more retainer checks. When my top one broke, I went out and bought a mouth guard so I could try to maintain my results in as close to perfect as I possibly could. That actually seemed to work so if the bottom one breaks I will do the same. I don’t regret getting this done at all and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Re: Sky Wolf's Story
This year will be year seven since I got my braces off. The last time I checked in my top retainer had snapped and I had a new one made. I was told that it wouldn't be the same as my original and its not even close in reality. I use to wear them religiously but I really can't stand my new top retainer and there is nothing my ortho can do about it. I did try really hard to get use to it though but they also made it sound like my teeth wouldn't shift right away and that I was making a big fuss over nothing. I know for a fact that a few nights without wearing my bottom retainer and my teeth do shift slightly nothing major but for someone who was suppose to spend 12-18 months in braces and ended up spending more than two years in them any shift is a big deal. Plus my bottom teeth were the hardest to rotate and get right. Provided nothing changed drastically but given that I maintained my teeth in the same position they were debanded in I would say I have plenty of reason to not want my teeth to shift. I am hoping to get a new bottom retainer made soon to prevent this from ever happening again. I will probably go to my first retainer check with this new top one but after that I really don't know if I will schedule more. Since I was told to call if they broke but it was over a week before they got me in for molds and another two weeks before my new retainer came in. Plus he had a lot harder time fitting my second retainer which told me that in the two weeks from my mold my teeth must have shifted some. Not saying I don't trust his judgment but I am saying that when I got my braces off I was told that as long as I wanted to keep my results I had to wear my retainer at least every 3rd night. But I'll see how this appointment goes I have a feeling he will finally be disappointed in me.

I'm sorry that you're having retainer troubles, I hope you get it worked out soon! I'm really impressed you are still updating us here! It's so good to hear from people who are enjoying life years after braces. Good luck with everything!

Re: Sky Wolf's Story
Thank you I want to continue to give insight into my journey as someone who not only went through the treatment but as someone who is able to maintain the results years later. I had my appointment yesterday and I told him that I couldn't deal with my new retainer that I tried but that it was not working well for me. He checked and agreed that it was to tight on the right side adjusted it three or four times and it was still to tight. He then I believe filed it down some and tried it and once again still to tight so a second filing and now it fits much closer to my original retainer did. I wore it last night and had no problems with it so I think that filing it down solved a lot of my problems. It was simply to bulky for my mouth and wasn't allowing me to close my jaws properly. I'm glad that the problem is fixed and that I can go back to wearing my retainers religiously. While not necessary I feel that once it became part of my nightly routine it was easy to not forget them. Plus only wearing them at night doesn't effect anything I do.
