Had my 1st official appointment 2 weeks ago and I got another new wire. So I'm on my 3rd wire in my first month. That seems like good progress. It's a reverse curve wire to open my bite so the bottoms can go on. I haven't noticed anything yet. The gap next to my fake tooth is closing up on its own, I guess from pressure from my molars.
At the next appointment they told me the otho is going to look at my teeth and maybe set a date for the bottoms to go on. I've got a feeling she might say waiting for reverse curve wires to open my bite is taking too long and I have to get a biteplate. I'd rather not have to do that but it's better then wasting time waiting for my bite to open. On the other hand, if I have to get a biteplate it would mean I could have had one for the last month and a half and things could be happening.
JT got his expander and turning the key took some getting used to. But now my mom and I have it down, JT figured out how to eat again, but he is still talking a little funny.

Thanks! I'm so anxious though because I really want my braces off before Senior pictures when I graduate high school. If things go as planned they should be. Do teenagers get senior pictures in Australia?KK wrote:I think you're attitudes great that your'd rather get your bottoms moving than worry too much about the bite plate!
Thats funny, Id rather have had braces in my senior pic than my gappy teeth that I have on it. But I understand you want people to see and remember you with a brilliant smile.
Ive had my braces on for about a month, but have yet to get a new wire... Hope I get one soon, I want that pressure back (nothing hurts now) but the teeth are moving.

I understand where you're coming from too. My teeth looked fine in pictures since it's mostly the lower arch with problems, or I would probably feel the same as you.Guppie51 wrote: Thats funny, Id rather have had braces in my senior pic than my gappy teeth that I have on it. So...adjustment today and I got another reverse curve wire and pale blue ligs. This is definetly my tightest wire yet, I could feel it when they pushed it into the brackets. I think I got a not-so-gentle assistant too. They said if my bite hasn't opened enough by next month to get the bottoms on I have to get a bite plate.
Something interesting I heard was them talking to a girl about her retainers. I guess she hasn't been wearing them at night and her teeth are moving-here's the interesting part-really fast because she breaths through her mouth. Isn't that weird? I had no idea being a mouth breather or a nose breather could contribute to your teeth moving. Anyone heard this before?

I just noticed my wire is rectangular. Oohh I'm excited! Haha. I think I am going to try to sleep with my mouth open. Let's avoid that bite plate!
It's a piece of plastic that goes behind your front teeth on the top of your mouth. It stops you from biting down all the way so you can't bite off the bottom braces. I think I would rather have turbos because I'm worried about the bite plate making me lisp.

What exactly is a bite plate?

Ahh, glad to see another high school student who decided to go through the whole braces thing late.
As for senior pictures...don't be too worried about that. I've found that its pretty normal for people to have braces at this age, so nobody really notices. I haven't even had mine on for a week yet, and people are already used to it. A good portion of my friends didn't even notice until I mentioned something about it.
If you plan on going to a faraway college next year, I'de set that as the final marker to get them off. I myself will probably be going to my prom with these braces on and nobody really cares...except me of course. Only I seem to notice that I look different.
