First time in braces.

#1 Post by ahughes531 »

Hello! My name is Adam I am 16 years old. I live in Indianapolis, IN. I am having all of my orthodontic treatment done at the Indiana Univeristy School Of Dentistry, located downtown Indianapolis.

Septemer 28th, 2005(Screening) : When I went for the screening appointment. I don't remember much of what he said but I know he said I have an open bite and it would require orthognathic surgery(Which I do not need I will explain later). And that I also have a tongue thrust. The screening appointment was around 15-20 minutes long.

October 18th, 2005(Records) : So I got the usual X-Ray, molds, wax impression, and photos. The worst part of this appointment was getting the molds EW they were horrible. So that was that.

Novemer 10th, 2005(Treatment Plan & Spacers) : This appoint My father, myself, and the orthodontist had a confrence about my treatment. He said I will be will be in full metal braces for two years and wear elastics near the end of treatment to close my open bite(See no orthognathic surgery!! He said my open bite wasnt severe enough to get surgery, and should form a normal bite with the elastics). Then he put my 8 spacers in.
And that was the end of that appointment.

Novemer 18th, 2005(Molar bands) : Got spacers removed and Molar bands were put on!! Last appointment til' bracesss!

November 23rd, 2005 (Braces placed!!) : Braces placed! They placed them and all braces were on within I'd say 15 minutes. I thought they placed each bracket one by one but mine were done differently. They had a clear plastic retainer type mold of my teeth with the brackets attatched they then would put gule inside of the mold and bond it to my teeth, once glue was dry they pulled the molds off. Then they attatched the tongue thurst appliance and place a wire and put ligs in(I first chose green!).

January 13th, 2006(First adjustment) : They added new tubes? on my very back bottom molars. Moved tongue thrust appliance back, and changed wire & ligs. Also my orthodontist referred me to a Periodontist to get surgery on my gum, becuase the tissue has wore away with the way I use to brush.

I do not have any pre-treatment photos but here are some after my first adjustment :
(I'm sorrry these pictures are horrible, I have never really taken any pictures of my teeth)

Second Adjustment(With Pics.)

#2 Post by ahughes531 »

Ok so I went in for my second adjustment(02/24/06) And my otrhodontist instead of using ligs on some of my brackets made wire hooks on 6 of my brackets for use in conjunction with my elastics! So yes I finally got elastics to close my open bite. I also got a powerchain added on my bottom row.

Pictures :

As you can see in comparison my bite has closed quite some bit
and it has closed that much even it only being my first night in elastics!

My elastics.. I have an analog box in the front and two side elastics

My next adjustment is on April 14th 2006

Once again the pictures are horrible because I do not know how to exactly take pictures of my teeth. Any suggestions? And thank you Karen for the comment!
