I'm only 18 but when I was younger my parents couldn't afford to get me braces. My mom had to get them when I was around 10 and they couldn't afford to get them for both of us. Now they are both doing pretty well and offered to pay for my braces.
I have only had my first consultation but will be getting my molds done on April 19th.
Initially, I didn't think my teeth were too bad except the gap in the front. The ortho told me that besides the gap, I have a slight overbite and my alignment is off. He also said that my top teeth aren't wide enough to match with my bottom teeth. They may have to shave my bottom teeth down a bit.
My estimated treatment time will be 16 months with Insignia braces. I wish I had more information on the Insignia braces but all I know is that they're specially designed for my teeth and will shorten treatment time. My ortho uses them on most of his patients, so he has a pretty good idea of what he's doing.
I'll be getting clear on top and metal on bottom. My first dentist appointment in 4 years will be April 12th. I know, four years is ridiculous! But like I said, my parents couldn't really afford it but now my mom has dental insurance, which I'm covered under.
Then I will get my molds done and have to wait about 5 weeks to get my brackets and wires back from the Ormco company, which makes the Insignia braces. I don't think I can wait that long!! I'm just too excited.
Anyways, I'll post some pictures of my teeth now. I can't believe I'm going to show them on the internet. It's so embarassing. I have always been EXTREMELY self-concious about my teeth. I always make sure to cover my mouth if I laugh. And you will not find one picture with me showing my teeth. I'm probably so self-concious because of some of the cruel things people have said about my teeth.
For instance, at my Dad's wedding my brother's friend told me that when I talk, he wasn't sure if he should be listening or getting ready to kick a field goal. Needless to say, I had to leave my Dad's wedding early because I was so upset and spent most of the night crying.
People should really think before they say things. Anyway...
Here's the top pre-braces

And here's the bottom pre-braces

And the front pre-braces

Man, pictures really do make my teeth look 100x worse than they are. Oh well.
As soon as I have my dentist appointment and my molds done, I will update again. I'm so excited to be getting braces and to have found this site!
