getting your teeth cleaned with braces is the weirdest thing! my ortho/dentist had me wear lab glasses. besides the regular dental bib thing, he also gave me a huge sanitary blanket to cover my entire body with. he told me to leave my eyes closed.

the process was painless, but i felt all this gritty, sand-like thing flying around (sodium bicarbonate, he says). after he was done, he had me rinse out my mouth then go to the bathroom to "clean [myself] up." i got to the bathroom, and there was sand all over my face...hair...even some in my ears! felt like i'd just gone to the beach.

my teeth feel super clean--but my gums are bleeding a bit. warm water and salt should fix that though.

Yep, I've been sand-blasted as well! :) The process is yucky but the after-effects are wonderful!
