Your slideshow is great – and so are your teeth!!! I wondered about wires breaking. I know they warned me about eating certain foods, but I keep thinking one day I’m gonna break something while brushing.

Oy Vey….If it ain’t one thing its another….. :-*

Hi Ken,

Who knows, it just baffles me. :? It bugs me knowing that there is no wire b/t my last bracket and molar tube. I hope this small setback won't delay my treatment to much. Hopefully, they can get me in on Monday morning.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hi SGPWired,

Thank you for the complement! As far as the wire breaking, I have no clue how that happend... :?. When I wore braces the first time around, I never broke a wire, but it came out of the molar band once and drove me crazy until it was repaired, of course it happend over a weekend!

Oh well, hopefully I can get in early Monday morning after I drop my kids off at school.

Have a great weekend.

lol!! thats so funny because my wire broke on wen. night but it was in the back just before my molar. My ortho said he would change it if i wanted but that since its in the back it wont really delay my treatment. But, i get my first adjustment in 2 weeks and dont wanna drive 40 min to his office im going to wait.

I think my wire broke b/c its my first wire its thinner and more flimisy. It happened just after i brushed my teeth. Im so lucky i didnt choke on it or swollow it. It was a lil long b/c i had extra wire comming out of my last bracket. Cant imagine how that would of felt in my throat!

Hi JML,

Well I did go to the ortho 10 days ago and the assistant started removing my wire ties on the upper arch and he came over to look and told her to retie them since it was only my right upper molar that wasn't wired in. I guess that this starter wire still had some life left in it. I was hoping that he was going to change it when I had my appointment on the 5th, but he didn't and said that it would get changed at my next appointment on 4/14. He did ask me if my teeth hurt and I told him no and he had the assistant retie my lower right canine since it's rotated (that hurt).

I still have no idea how my wire broke either. I still have my initial wire on top and can't wait to get it changed! I think that I had a clenching fit when it happend. Who knows???

Hi Melissa,

Love my wire ties...LOL!!! I couldn't deal with staining!!! I'm sure that I'm going to need a powerchain sometime down the line, I'm totally open to pearl, smoke or silver.

You should totally ask about them.

Hi Kitty

I usually do my coffee drinking earlier in the day, I did however, nurse an iced coffee over a 4 hour period. Now that the weather is starting to really warm up, I'm usually drinking a ton of water or iced fruit tea.

Thank you about my slide show, I can't wait to update it after my next appointment in about 2.5 weeks.

well brown,

this is all very interesting. you have described everything i went thru. lol

i have ceramic uppers and metal lowers. im in month 7 right now. i had the same problems with the ceramic upper k-9 brackets with the molded on hooks.....omg they ate me alive in the beggining. actually rubbed a divit in my cheek. went away about month 4. took a long time. warm salt water rinse helps emensly.

i got wires the size of texas now. lol. but this last visit i did get the wire ties up top.

now.....i will say this....with wire ties, the ceramics can be almost unbearibly sharp in the early months. im beyond that now,..but the rubber ligs are much more comfortable on the ceramics without a doubt.

so far i have had both and i preffer the rubber ligs. i too have been dealing with the staining issue. i just got silver rubber ligs up top last time (Feb). they looked kinda cool. unfortunatelly im wire tied right now (march) with a .018 square wire. its friggin huge.

its just kinda funny tho, cause as ive read thru your posts,...you have described everything ive had thus far....except i never had a wire break.
i only had a bracket break off like month 2, and month 3 i had a molar band work its way loose.

oh yeah.....i do remember like christmas,...i still had what the doc called "baby" wires lol and every time i would eat,...it would come out of the bracket on the right lower side molar band. but it was a flexable wire and i was able to put it right back in the hole. i called him and thats what he said to do. but it was a real springy flexable wire. with these square wires,....that is not an issue. they dont budge.

hope all goes well with you. it sounds like it is. warm salt water rinse. helps alot. also,...the more you eat,...the better off you are. if you go round hungry,...you will build up more stomac acid from being hungry,....which in turn will make your sores in your mouth ulcify easier. been there done that. just try to keep someting on your stomac.

Hi Dave,

Nothing like hooks digging into your cheeks and lips. I ocassionally still need to place wax on my upper molar tubes, those hooks still dig every now and then. Every since by lower o-rings got changed to wire ties, the hook on my lower right canine has left a nice slice in my lip and it still hasn't healed(I'm going on almost 4 weeks already). I've done ricinol, salt water rinses, peroxyl and try and keep wax on it most of the time, I've had enough! The ceramics are definitely sharper, I haven't had ligs on them yet. I've had wire ties from day one. I'm sure that ligs are more comfortable. They're more comfortable on the lowers too.

Wow, wires the size of Texas!!! I'm getting a new upper wire in 2 weeks, I can't wait, I've had my starter/baby wire since day one, I'm ready to see the good stuff happen with my uppers already. My lower wire was changed to a .016 ni-ti 19 days after I started treatment.

Good luck with your treatment!

hey brown,...

well keep you chin up. it will only get better i promiss. every day will get easier.

i had some tough times too, (first whole month), but all in all, its worth it. yeah,..hummm...if i had it all to do over again....yeah probably all metal. its so much softer. but,...this is the path we took....here we go.

just hang in there. im at mohth 7 i think,...and at this point i practically dont even know they are there. so thats what you have to look forward to. wont be long,...you will be well adjusted, and wont even know the braces are even there. hang in there. it does get better i PROMISS.

again,....just like me...i had the same problems in the back with all the junk on the molar bands. wow. felt huge. so yea i relate. wax that, and the k-9 hooks. the rest will be ok. after some time you will get use to it. but no kidding,....that is some way sharp crap back there. i know.

i really dont like the wire ties. they make the brackets kinda sharp. and here it is late winter early spring,...and we have had crapy weather and ive had chapped lips now for 2 months. now that sux. warm today,...cold tommarow. jeez. TRY not to get chapped lips. use lip balm. something. its terrible with braces. wow. well it has been for me.

hey look on the bright side....least you dont have 4 rubber bands in your mouth too ! kinda..........like me. :( lol its all good.

just hang in there girl. drink extra water. keep hydrated, lip balm, and wax. and eat. gotta eat. plus the warm salt water rinse. in no time you will be a braces pro with no worries. you watch. and keep in touch too.

Hi Dave,

Every day does get easier, I do know that. I see that we're part of the same group. We both wore braces in the early 80's. I totally feel it's been much easier this time around. I only wore metal uppers way back when, but this time I don't have bands which is quite nice!

I'm totally use to them, just on occasion when a hook bites me... LOL, then I need to attend to it, such as peroxyl, salt water rinse, wax, orabase, etc...

Chapped lips, what's that... I'm native to New Jersey, been there done that. So far so good, I keep stuff everywhere, in my car, purse all over the house. I work in outside sales, and I like to talk, I always need some kind of gloss on my lips.

As far as rubber bands go, I know that I'll be getting them, soon enough. What's in store for me, I have no idea.

Thanks for all the positive words!

Take care,

B
