2 weeks until a couple more spacers are jammed into place, then a week later..couple more molar bands and new wires all the way round. My top teeth are still hitting my lowers when I speak quickly..but nothing to be done about it until the next adjustment. After 7 months, today out of the frikken blue, the upper right molar band hook, sliced into my cheek, right through the nice little callus built up there from constant rubbing. So now it gets caught all the time. If it's not one thing, it's another I suppose, especially through this orthodontic hulabaloo we call braces!

I've only wore clear, silver and grey. Grey seems to be the stronger IMO. When I had spaces to close on my lowers I always seemed to have grey powerchains.

Started the journey for the second time on January 10th 2008~Ceramic uppers and metal lowers. Removed on June 2nd 2009.

Thanks for the reply browneyedgirl...seems to be the consensus about grey powerchains being the strongest/most popular. Will see in a few weeks, what comes with the new molar bands/wires..in the on again-off again of powerchains so far in my treatment, I'd guess they'd be off again..lol

One more week until the dreaded spacers return...Aggggh! I am not looking forward to that one little bit. The week after, I'll get 2 more molar bands and new wires on both top and bottom. And I think I'll got back to silver ligs..I'm b-o-r-e-d with the teal jellies since I had a full powerchain in them.

bizarre little comment today: for the very FIRST time, the ortho office called to 'confirm' my appointment for Monday....they've never done this before...I laughed and said 'and for the following Monday as well', to which the girl said 'oh you'll get another call for that one'...strange, for sure!

Hateful evil bits of plastic jammed between my teeth AGAIN!!! But the good news is that this time, they went in without any protesting of their own...one techie, one try...pop! Still feel the momentum of pressure and throbbing beginning, so the countdown to next Monday begins in earnest now. Also decided to test-drive extremely mega blinding fuschia pink ligs on top...figured if I hate them, it's only a week. Time for some Aleve I think.

2 more days, ONLY 2 more days until these spacers are removed!!!! I thought I hated them the first time around...sooooooooo despise them every second of every minute of every hour of every day!!!!! I'm sure the new metal gear that will replace them won't be a picnic, but at this point, I welcome it all, every last molarbandwireelastic gadget...bring it on, just get THESE out out out!!!

Spacers are OUT...Yippeee! And the tech only had to try on 5...yes count them...5 bands on the top to find one that fit...OMG..'bitedownbitedownbitedown'...rrrrrippppppped off AND 'bitedownbitedownbitedown'...rrrrripppppped off AND...I was ready to leap out of the chair by #5, thank goodness it fit, even though it was ripped off again by the doc so she could cement it in place. Then the bottom one was right the first try...go figure! They feel so strange back there...but so far, no pain from them or poking/rubbing. Plain-Jane silver ligs this month..just couldn't take colour again after the acid flamingo pink. The mini chainlettes going from lateral incisor to incisor are already painful. Closing those gaps is good, but eeeYowww! The incisors are still hitting but I'm stuck with them another month or more until the back molars are forced into their upright and locked position for landing. Then the incisors can be advanced yet again to where they were a month ago after 4 months of hard work....grrrrr! And next month..oh yes...elastics are a go, with a simple configuration of top molar to bottom canine on both sides...whew! No cats-cradle weaving in THIS mouth, oh no no no!

I posted too soon...pain AND poking/rubbing have arrived with gums blazing..gums sore from the on/off/on/off game of getting the new bands..inner cheeks sore from the end of the wire <which was indeed clipped before I left the office> and the bands themselves...I know that with time, the cheeks will toughen up, just like the last time around...but OW! Wax, long lost friend, I plead with thee, taketh away the pain!

Have you tried the numbing thing? Wax never worked only that.

Anbesol is my very last resort. I've salt-water rinsed and even held some salt on the sorest spot, and after the burning pain, it did feel better. Piling on the wax allows the flesh some time-off from constant rubbing, but I know that it will heal and toughen up with time..still sucks!

I always used this for canker sores and mouth pain http://www.glyoxide.com/
It's basically just a cleaner but every time I use it things get back to normal pretty quickly. I think it kills all the bad things while your mouth is trying to heal. Mouth pain is the worst hope it gets better!

Thanks yj207, appreciate the info. I looked with a flashlight and mirror and what feels like something huge and shredded, is maybe one shade darker pink and a little rough. And already a tad better tonight than today..so things are on the mend <said hopefully>.

I gave up and called the ortho this morning for a 'clip job' on the offending pokey wires...yes, wires..plural!!!! Upper left is gouging a hole in my cheek, upper right is hooking my cheek and lower right has some sort of sabertoothneedlethin bit that won't behave...A clipping I will go, a clipping I will go, high ho the derry oh, a clipping I will go!

Doc saw me right away, and when she felt the major offender pokey wire, she said 'oh yes, this *is* rather extreme, you should have come in earlier' and CLIP..off came the nasty bit of rectangular wire that was burrowing into the back of my jaw. She looked at the other top poker and said 'I see it' and CLIP..off came such a small piece, that both she and the tech had to hunt for the tiny bit once it left the cutter. When she looked at the one bottom sabertoothneedle doohickey, she said it needed to be 'tucked in' and proceeded to TWIST the wire, thus tightening the whole bottom shebang!!! I asked, through crossed eyes, if that was the solution for the poking and she said 'well, yes..and since the powerchain was removed Monday, you've developed some small gaps, so tightening the wire should solve that as well this time around'. More pressure now, which is fine, but ALL the poking has been resolved...once the cheeks have healed up in a few days, thing should feel much better..YAY!
