I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!! I went in for my Nov. adjustment, you know, the one where he said he'd give me my debonding date? Well there is one bottom incisor tht is still not straight. They put a HUGE bend in that wire and the ortho said, "That'll be straight by breakfast!". They he looked at it again, and said, "No....by dinner tonight!". I could totally feel the massive pressure on that tooth and went merrily on my way.

Now it is 2 weeks after that appointment and that tooth is even MORE out of line than it was. I don't get it!!!!!

Now I'll go in for my Dec. adjustment in a few weeks and they'll see that that tooth is still not aligned and put in even a bigger bend and tell me to come back in a month.

I was expecting to get these off before Thanksgiving and now it doesn't look like it'll be before January!

Here's a picture of the offending tooth:

Oh oh, sorry to hear about your setback.

I so hope I am wrong about this, but when I look at the bend of your archwire,
I think it does not look right. When looking at your pic, I think the wire makes
that tooth rotate counterclockwise. That is why after these 2 weeks it looks even
more out of line. I think the bend should have been the other way around, so that
this tooth rotates clockwise (when looking at your pic). Once again, I hope I am
totally wrong about this. Is there a possibility that you mail this question and pic
directly to your ortho ?

Clo, when I saw the picture I thought the same thing.

I have been racking my brain trying to remember if the ortho told her to step out the mesial or the distal...

Then I wonder if it's tilting the other tooth in the opposit direction also which makes it look even more out of line; in other words, how does one tooth know to be the anchor and the other know to be the mover??

I had a tooth on the bottom that was like that when I had braces. It was only slightly off-line, but it never corrected itself. You can't notice from the front, only looking down at your bottom teeth, which only you see.

It's not the end of the world if things arn't absolutely perfect. I don't even think about it now.

I know what you mean about anchor and mover. Or also about action on one
tooth creating reaction on another one. But when the ortho is finishing and correcting
all little details, they use a heavy archwire. On your pic, I see indeed a thick
archwire. So if they make a bend in it for one tooth, I think the wire is rigid enough
so that only that tooth moves or rotates. When they make such a bend, the tooth
moves until it is parallel again to the wire. Your tooth did exactly that, the teeth
next to it are also nicely parallel to the wire. So I keep thinking the bend had to
be made outwards, not inwards. Just a humble opinion of an experienced patient ...

I totally know how you feel because I have one of my upper centrals not wanting to move either. Granted I'm only 6 months into treatment but I still want it to move more than it has so far. I hope your ortho takes care of this quickly to eliminate anymore time with braces on. Good luck.

I called today to see if they could take a look at it before my appointment. There's nothing open (with the Thanksgiving holiday eating up 1/2 a week) between now and the 5th. I will just hang-on until the 5th....it's not that far away afterall.

That tooth has moved, a lot up until now. It was twisted more and tilted so I know it can move...I think it is a case of the wire being bent in the wrong place, wrong direction or something like that.

In any event, whether they could squeeze me in early or I wait until the 5th, there's no way I'll get them off before Christmas.

Thanks everyone for your support. I am very curious as to what the ortho will say when he sees the direction the tooth took. I am very interrested in that! :P

I just now remembered something from my last adjustment. Because of where the bend is (was) in the wire, the assistant couldn't get the door to close on my bracket so the ortho came in with a pliar type tool and pushed it in really hard (it was VERY PAINFUL) to allow the door to close, I wonder if the wire bent down into the slot rather than moved into the slot....

When I look at that picture (with that memory) I see how that could be what happened.

Okay, now I really can't wait to hear what he says!
