I'm looking forward to seeing how you progress. Your top teeth are very similar to mine except that my canine is also tilted whereas yours isn't. Good luck with the rest of your journey!

5th January 2011 - Happy New Year update photos

#111 Post by BraceFace2o1o »

I took some more photos on Saturday 1st January, by that date I had been in braces 44 days (6 weeks 2 days). Here are photos of before and at 6 weeks 2 days:

Image

And below are my horrid pokey wire ties  (yeah, I thought they would be too hard to spot hence the big RED arrows LOL)
Oh and WHY can't my teeth look this colour in my other photos, like what the...? *rolls eyes*

Image

My bite is changing week by week. The changes in the first few weeks felt good, I could finally bite down on my back teeth without my upper front teeth pushing on the fronts of my lower front teeth (because of my overbite). My 2 upper front teeth moved forward and relieved the pressure. But now, because of one stupid tooth, my bite is horrible (yeah yeah, I know it's only temporary! lol). Right now because my upper right 1st pre molar has moved outwards it's now clashing on my lower right 1st pre molar. Literally, when I try to close my bite, they are the only 2 teeth that meet, which gets really uncomfortable when I am eating... it feels like either one is going to come loose and fall out :D

Another thing which I find weird, is that my upper right central incisor is hitting on my lower incisors again... and anyone would think my upper right central incisor had moved backwards again (the plan is to move them forward to create an overjet so that lower braces can go on without me chomping off my lower brackets)... but it can't have, because in my pictures it doesn't look like it's moved backwards (or fowards for that matter) since my last set of pics... strange.

Oh and that one part of my gum line that was upsetting me (not sure if I mentioned it here in this thread) seems to be getting better. Basically, it's the gum line right on/above my upper right central incisor, it was red and starting to recede :( but in the past week it seems to be getting better. The redness is dying down and the funky jaggered gum line (where it started to recede) has become more of a curve/arch as it should be. To put it simply, it's looking good to me! PHEW! because it was really starting to bother me.

Anyway, I am going to finish up here on my Laptop because my damn Sciatica is starting to kick in sitting here... :x

That's good news about your gums! I do believe gums can move and shift around, help themselves to a certain extent. If the gum problem is crooked teeth and brushing wrong then fixing both should help the gums ease back.

Ok, love the picture of you with your glasses....and...um....your excitement for them..?

Looking over your pictures again, the latest one's you've posted and wowzees....do our 2 front teeth look almost exactly alike. I see you have wire ties. When the techs at your adjustments put them on.....have they let you look at yourself before they cut the wires, and their all sticking straight out, like something from a horror move? Mine did...and I....WAS SCARED SH-ITLESS. Not a pretty sight. Not a pretty sight.....at all!!

Happy New Year to you...and your teeth.....and your soon to be NEW SMILE! :-*

luchababe - I do hope so and I can't believe I caused so much damage to my gums by brushing so hard and also that I was totally unaware of it until last year, it's really bad... my Dentist never really said anything either :?
I was told to brush a new way by my Ortho in November, I hate doing it because it takes sooo much longer and still feels weird - like I can't get used to it. I guess it's because I was so used to brushing so harshly for YEARS that it's hard to get used to a new routine.

jensceana73 - Oops! I was doing a silly face to prove just how Ugly Betty I could be with my braces, probably those few Vodkas didn't help Image

I can't wait until my tooth, like yours, makes a FULL appearance and stops hiding behind the other. It's gonna be so strange seeing it in all its glory - but I must be patient, could be a few months yet as those 2 teeth still got a lot of moving to do.

This made me :-* and it's funny you should say that about the wire ties. At my last adjustment, for some reason I looked down to see what tools he had in his hand and saw two really long metal wire ties hanging out of my mouth! totally crazy  . But I am glad I didn't get to look in the mirror , that would have been horrible to see that. I still say he could chop them a little bit shorter too, they poke my lips!

Hi Chrystal!

Congrats on the movement! You are definitely keeping me entertained! In response to pics and the color of your teeth, do you happen to have a Tungsten lighting feature on your camera? In stead of warm light it captures cool light and removes that orangy glow from pics. I use that and cut off the flash to get my pics to look a little more natural lightish. I'm not the best photographer but I can be such a techie sometimes. I do hope it helps though.

Aww thanks and thank you for stopping by :D

I'm going to have to find out the user manual and have a look and see if I have that setting, if my camera does it will come in handy, thanks. I normally just set it to macro mode and use any flash setting (there are a few and I have no clue what each one does ).
I also normally take about 10 pictures and pick 1 or 2 of the best ones, I'm not the best at taking photos of my teeth Image

My bite sucks big time right now, it's totally messed up. Having only 2 teeth on the right side and 2 teeth on the left side meet + grinding/clenching during the night = not good, surely.

Image Just under 3 weeks until my lowers are meant to go on. I am going to miss using my floss sticks when my lowers go on, they make flossing so much easier, but obviously wont work with an archwire in the way

I have my consult with the oral surgeon on Tuesday, to see if he's prepared to remove my last wisdom tooth that's mesially impacted. If he does agree, it means I'll either have it done free on the NHS or only have to pay a small fee. If he says no, I'll either have to be stuck with the damn tooth and cross my fingers Image that it doesn't try to erupt later on and disrupt all my lovely Orthodontic work, or fork out a few hundred quid (which I don't have) to pay privately to get it removed. Sigh. Fingers crossed he's game!

I saw luchababe created a gif of her teeth, so I had a go at making my own (the easy way using a website ). Mine isn't so great as my pics aren't at quite the same angle each time and I've not taken weekly photos, I've just randomly taken them here and there lol. 1st photo is 'before', 2nd photo is '2 weeks in braces' and the 3rd photo is '44 days in braces' - I wish I had taken photos on THE SAME day I was braced, oh well...

Image

I'll take more photos not this weekend but next, by then it will have been 4 weeks since I took previous photos.

Wow, your molars have really moved in that short period of time! And so has your right (or your left?) front tooth. It amazes me how these things actually do work! lol. Can you tell I'm still a newbie, I have to learn all the proper tooth names and technical terms!

Hey NurseJ, thanks for stopping by :) It's certainly a very good feeling seeing my upper front left tooth move, it's been the main tooth I've 'hated' ever since a young teen. It's going to feel so strange (in a good way!) when it's not overlapping the other tooth anymore. I'm hoping to see some more movement after my round of IPR at my adjustment in Feb, bring it on

Hehe, welcome to the forum and I was exactly the same at first! I found myself going on Google to find a diagram of teeth and their names . Sometims I still forget what they are called

It's one thing to compare photos but it's different to see them animate, isn't it? It's nice to add a photo to the 'movie' each week or month and see the progress.
