Hi Elle,

I'm in love with your teeth! I can't wait until mine look that pretty.

As for what to say when people make comments about an age difference, My husband is 7 years older than I. My favorite response is " I didn't have the patience for a younger one, I had to get a man who was already trained". (needless to say my hubby kinda scoffs at it though)

PS how is everyone taking the pics? I can't get mine to come out right..

10th Ortho adjustment- 412 days in - Same old same old but new elastic.......... Edit Blog Entry

Hi guys

Well Its true braces get very boring. I had my 10th adjustment they said everything looked GOOD and I did a great job wearing my elastics to move my lower jaw forward/upper backwards so now after about 6 months of the same elastic configuration I am now in the holding position (upside down triangles) I can't believe my jaw is finally where it should be, I started with a 10mm overbite which is crazy and now its great with only elastics use and wire adjustments, no forsus springs needed. I was VERY diligent wearing them 24/7 (minus a couple hours at a Christmas party) I must say the other elastic configuration I could eat with and brush my teeth with, this one is a bit more restrictive and noticeable but hopefully it wont be for too long.

So I will post pictures later (promise) though my teeth look about the same, somewhat near the end just a punch of little tweaks, a root on my upper fang has really popped out and hurts like a SOB to touch so he is moving that a bit.

I am internally hoping that I have 18 months total (original estimate was 18-28 months) which would mean 136 more days, off in time for the summer, my grams 97th bday and my 11th anniversary but who knows, I think its good to have goals and if it doesn't happen I will have to start another count down. My ortho at one time when pressured said by the end of this year and maybe summer. ???

Hope everyone is doing well, winter is almost over and your teeth are behaving and moving where they should.

Elle

(pics are coming, but prepared to be bored )

AWWWW Thank you workingmomma. No one says anything lately about the braces and our age difference but I will be using that response. I have been taking pics with a newer spammy cypershot, I stand infront of the mirror so I can see the screen and then just take a million pics til one looks okay lol. Mine uses the macro (the little flower) automatically but you may have to press that on your camera. Good luck, take lots of pics and then when you are sad compare them and you will be amazed.

Thanks to everyone else for the sweet comments, sometimes I think I am talking to myself on here LOL but it has been very helpful with the process knowing I am helping those early on in their journey as others helped me.

Okay so not much new as I said early they are boring now

1) My natural smile now
2) Side view, no overbite really
3) New elastics

You can see my new upside down elastics in the one pic. I think my big front teeth are on an angle though?? Or is it my smile?? Midline still a bit off but I guess he will wait closer to the end to fix that?

Anyways I am VERY HAPPY with the results so far and people are saying how great my teeth look, my family is always like WOW they are straight LOL

I can not wait to smile again without braces, I sometimes imagine how nice it will be to feel my teeth again and to get them white again ( I made the mistake AGAIN of using that horrible Crest Pro Health toothpaste, bad mistake, yellow/orange teeth again)

So incase anyone is actually reading, here they are ;-)

PS My last post said SPAM SPAM SPAM when I was trying to say what kind of camera I have, Its a spammy..... cyper...shot 16.1 mp

Hi Ellebraced! Your teeth are looking really great. I looked back to your original posts and you must be thrilled with your progress. I'm glad for you.

It's good to be finally joining the club. Much easier than I thought, except for chewing. Unfortunately for me, it will be difficult to see my progress as pretty much all my work will take place from the canines back, and the upper canines are in line, just rotated, so look fine from the front.

Again, best of luck to you!

How long do you have to keep the rubber bands on for? and why did she put them all around your brackets?

Roxie,

I think they call those elastics POWERCHAINS on top and I believe its to keep things where they want them ???? Had them for as long as I have had the elastics to fix my bite 8 months I believe.

Wow that is quite a story. Your progress is quite amazing so yay you! I know how you feel about what grams said. My Nanna (who passed last year) was always asking me why I was so sour or bitter or angry and making nasty comments as to why I'm such a miserable person. She never meant to hurt or upset me she just didn't realise there was anything wrong with what she said. And as she got older and got dementia the comments got worse since there was no filter anymore between her brain and mouth. I never could make her understand that this is just the way my face is. My default setting is a downturned, thin lipped mouth that makes me look angry and unhappy and unless I concentrate on having another expression that is how I look. I hope that when I'm finished with braces it might change that though I don't think it will. However having better teeth will encourage me to smile more so that has to help. :-)

Anyway your teeth are awesome. I've always liked smiles with teeth like yours and I hope you don't mind my saying that I wish mine were like that. Good luck with your future progress.

Oh and I don't think that age difference is that bad. A friend of my mothers is married to a guy about 25 years older than her. People used to think it was weird until they saw how much they love each other and then they shut up about it.

Elle,
You are so funny. Just read your entire saga and laughed all the way through. I'm a bit nervous about getting braced but I'm going through with it on Tuesday so 4 more days to eat what I want. I too have a deep bite, and I'm not sure how they intend of fixing it other than they are putting bite turbos on the back of my front teeth to open my bite and I am getting traditional metal braces top and bottom. My ortho insured me that I will hate him for at least a month while I can't chew but that it will be temporary...LOL. Wow that is something to look forward to.
Your teeth look great. Hopefully you are out of your braces sooner rather than later. My lowers look somewhat like yours did to start with and my uppers while they look pretty good from the front are crowded too, but the biggest issue is the overbite, and lack of overjet that is causing me to have to pull my jaw back to get my teeth to close, causing alot of TMJ issues. So even though it sounds miserable not having my jaw teeth meet and being able to chew I'm excited to get rid of the TMJ headaches and jaw aches.
I'm happy to hear that you didn't have to much problems with your elastics I have heard so many horror stories. Obviously we all have our own experience and whats bad to me may not be too bad to you, but it is a little more reassuring.
Anyhow...am glad that you are more comfortable with your teeth and your smile braced or not...always good to see a confident woman!!!

Hi guys Thank you so much for your comments. I LOVE THIS WEBSITE, could you imagine going through this whole thing totally alone and no one to compare notes with. It would be dreadful.

Bestsybug (Elizabeth)
, Thanks, I think I am a bit crazy. I am sure that my braces have made me depressed this last year but I just watched a video I had made pre-braces and then Day 1 and WOW my teeth looked soooo different I am so happy I did this. All the drama and tears and uncomfortable moments are worth it. So remember take a video and lots of pics its truly amazing how they change. I used to not really care about my lowers then I see the video and I am thinking WOW they look sooooo good now.

Hi Sita. Thank you. We just moved my Grams to our town and I have been helping the last few months with My Grams and she was always saying how amazing my teeth look now and how straight they are. Sad news, she had a massive stroke 2 weeks ago, she's a lot better then day 1 but she will be in the hospital for awhile. So sad to see her like that, I visit her everyday, I just want her to be comfortable and happy. I was so sad thinking that I could be so close to the end of my journey with braces and she may not be here to see my new pretty smile. She was the main reason I got braces. Everyday I am thankful for another day with her and hopefully she will be here to see my big smile in a couple months. I was always be grateful that she was the one to encourage it, maybe a bit nicer would have been nice lol but at least it worked.

All48 Thank you so much. I know its crazy, from afar my teeth looked ok but close up a bloody mess. I am so happy with the results so far and can not wait to get these things off .

Plugnickel69 Thank you. I know its amazing how everybody has different issues. I think my back teeth were not too bad my issues are all in the front.

Thank you everybody for your comments. Hope everybodys teeth are behaving. I will update in 2 weeks with some new pics after my adjustment, I think wow my teeth are almost done then I take pics and see a million little things that still have to move lol.

Take care
Elle

Sita,

I hear you about your mouth just being the way it is. I am sick of people telling me to smile. SERIOUSLY how old am I. I have a b*t%h look. I can't help it. DO you think I want to look like a grump, hell no.

My response to.... OH, Elle smile............

I HAVE A SMILE IT'S JUST UPSIDE DOWN!!!!!!!!!!

Least I don't have a creepy perma smile!!! Hey maybe the next time someone tells me to smile I will give them a real creepy perma-smile!!

Anyways I hope I smile more after braces too. Right now I just feel AWKWARD I am one of those people that you can REALLY REALLY tell I have braces. I know I shouldn't care but I do, I have emotions on steroids or something I can cry about anything anywhere but I also care a lot so oh well what are you doing to do.

Take care  and remember to SMILE!!!! ughhhhhhh

Re: Ellebraced is getting braced- PICS !!!!!

#118 Post by Ellebraced »

I went in for my adjustment (15 months in almost). I thought my upper back molar band wire was bent (probably from eating popcorn and chips and yummy evil foods) It was and she said it didn't fit in the molar bracket/band anymore and since this is my finishing wire with a million complicated bends in it they took it out. So the tooth is FREE, OMG it feels so good. It didn't hurt at all just a cut and the molar band was off and now I can't stop licking it and feeling a really naked tooth.

AND I decided to ASK THE QUESTION!! Soooooo how much longer?? And of course I didn't get an answer. LOL. I think he said 2 or 3 more adjustments til what I don't know and that it was amazing how much my teeth had moved and it was only over a year so no big deal. He said wow at one point we thought you needed surgery and forsus springs. My teeth moved a whole tooth (upper back , lower forward) with just elastics. He said me wearing my elastics 24/7 has really helped my progress.

I now am back to class II mal. elastics (upper canine to lower back molar) and at night I have a box like set up over my front teeth to bring my uppers angled down. I never thought I would have such an amazing bite. I started with 10 mm overbite and now and at like 1mm.

So the long wait continues, everyone keeps saying oh be patient, not too much longer, blah blah blah blah blah. My anxiety level is insane right now. My Grams (who if you have read my previous crazy posts) is the whole reason I got braces and she had a massive stroke 4 weeks ago, she has healed amazingly from it at 96.5 years old but I go see her everyday in the hospital and I thought I sure hope she is here to see my braces come off and if would have been nice if they were off for her bday, which would be the 18 month mark in braces. Oh well they will be off one day. It will be in the range of 94-276 days to go LOL. The lesser being 18 months total and the higher being 2 years.

So I will keep wearing elastics 24/7 and hoping these babies move. I like the idea of 4 weeks to next adjustment, 6 weeks seemed too long and the powerchain would get nasty.

Hope everyone is doing well!! I will post pics soon but no major changes I don't think.

Elle

Agreed with what Canuck said, it's great to have such a detailed journal when you're waiting to get braced. And it's very entertaining as well
