ilovemacs' Story- Almost Done! (Aug. 21)

Whoa...? Why is there blood on my proxy brush??
After eating a snack before going to bed I was first using my proxy brush before brushing my teeth. I was almost done with my proxy brush; I was between my last bracket and buccal tube, (between my first and second molars)... (I think..?)
The proxy brush must have slipped and cut my gum. No big deal. So I continued my regular oral cleaning.
After that I checked that spot for any damage with a magnification mirror and didn't see any. It healed quickly. No red spot, nothing! -- Yay!
It scared me a little, but it's fine. There wasn't even any blood in the sink or on my toothbrush, just the proxy brush... strange!
Anyways.. not that big of a deal, just a little scare!

Thanks, I have to practise flossing though. Tonight I picked up some Oral-B SuperFloss. Haven't used it yet! I wasn't too crazy about the floss threaders.

I wasn't a regular flosser before braces, but certianly become one!
Yesterday when talking with my sister I see that her gums are a darkish red and they are puffy (I don't know if I described that right) while my look a nice lighish pink, with no pufiness. She isn't a regular flosser and isn't in braces. I hope her gums are ok.

Sometimes people make comments at school, about how I eat with my side teeth more and not with my front teeth. People look at me and say what is she doing!! I smile a big tin grin smile back!! I'm in high school, many other people have braces but they look at me funny when they see me brushing my teeth because no one else in braces brushes their teeth, I've seen two out of MANY people!! It's strange! After Halloween many people said to eat candy and treats that my ortho wouldn't allow, I didn't fall under peer pressure! Yay!! To top it off I'm lactose intolerant so I don't eat chocolate. I ate plain chips as my treat! Some of the seasoned flavours, have lactose in the seasoning.
I'll post back soon!
I'll post back soon!
I always love when I give the metal mouthed big grin smile. It makes me happy being a metal mouth! I am very interested in orthodontics, as I mentioned on B-day, the whole staff (there must be atleast 50 of them) at my ortho's was very impressed with me, for my wealth of knowledge. (See above post, noting "indirect bonding") I pick it up easy and I learn a lot online too. I told them about archwired.com and they were going to check it out. I told them about all the resources on here and they said they may want to use some things, of course they'll ask Lynn first. I'm in secondary school, and in grade 12 we have the option of doing a co-op where you work/ job shadow someone without pay. I don't want to be an ortho when I'm older but I find it VERY interesting!! I actually want to be a website and graphic designer! I'll most likely be done my treatment by then, except still in retainers for life. I'm sure they'd love to have me. But I'm not sure if co-oping in an orthodontist's office would work, because of health regulations and such. That would be sweet!!
Looking at my tickers, I see I've got 16 days until my 1st adjustment! I'm asking myself where has all the time gone, I've had my tops on since Oct.11/07!
I'm now starting to wonder what ligature colours I should get! I'm thinking a combo of black and something... I want black because they don't stain! Any ideas?!
I've got questions I'm going to ask at my next appointment! Some of them include:
1. When do I get my bottoms on (on brace day, my ortho said 3 months-ish)?
2. My 3rd molars/ wisdoms are starting to come in; how will they have an impact on treatment?
3. My overbite feels "greater" now with braces (I don't know if that's just me or if it actually is) he said we'll be using elastics to fix my overbite. So my question is... is my overbite "greater" with braces?
4. Do I have hooks on my buccal tubes? [(I think I do... when I look in my magnification mirror I can sort of see them, but not well enough to see if they've got hooks) (the buccal tubes are on my 1st molars)]
5. Are/ when are my 2nd molars become involved in treatment? (If not- why not?) I hope they are!!
Are these good questions? Can you think of anymore? This will be my first adjustment!
One final question for this post: Should I ask about the possibility of co-op?
Thanks!!

Thanks KK! I love going to my ortho's prepared! When I had my 2nd consult at the same ortho in Aug. 2007, to see if anything had changed (it had been over 2 years since I was there last, and being a teen, changes may have happened) I went with a list of questions like if I needed extractions, if I needed spacers, if surgery was required and more like that. When my ortho was assessing my bite he read the questions, he answered and I listened. They like that I'm so prepared for my appointments!!
Today is one week until my first adjustment. I'm getting slightly nervous because my ortho's daughter (also in braces currently) and I are friends. Of course since he is a doctor I'm sure the stuff he says is confidential, but I'm going to tell her everything he says regarding me in braces. I'm nervous that I'll get a bad oral hygiene report, even though I've been taking amazing care of my teeth. I'm pretty sure everything will go just fine.
