Kittymeow- Thanks for the photo focusing tip, LOL. I am not the best photog as you can see. I was having a heck of a time trying to figure out why they were so blurry since I just got a brand spankin new camera for Xmas and take pretty decent pics of my kiddies most of the time! I will try your tips next photo shoot

Braced32-
My friends are teasing yes. Funny part is; they have all HAD braces when we were kids and are LOVING the fact that I have them now so they can give me a hard time!!! We Chicagoans love to bust each others chops  It's a love thang!
I hope I didn't scare you about the tongue harnass! LOL, I am super claustrophobic (like the chick that starts to hyperventilate in the elevator, hahahaha) so I am sure it doesn't bother most like it did me! I guess that is why no one else bothered to elaborate

And the jabber tooth is a killer with the braces on!!!!! Today I am a LOT more sore then I was yesterday. I think the fact that I am a teeth grinder aggravated the already ouchy situation. I woke up this morning like "WTH???!!!" :o The insides of my cheeks are torn up and my jaw is aching. I must've really done a number on myself last night!!!

Just keep reminding myself why I did this; and holding my breath for progress!
Sent hubster to the store with a grocery list-- should be interesting to see what he comes home with. Shopping is NOT his forte!
I hope he grabs some of the softer foods I asked for because to date I've only been drinking slurpees and slimfast shakes. Chewing is still daunting.

Hi Katie,

Congratulations on getting braced and your braces look really good.

Your teeth are a bit like mine in that you have an overbite that practically covers your bottom teeth. (I cant wait to get that sorted).

Dont worry about not eating steak as you will be able to when your teeth have settled abit. I had steak, the week after i got my braces and i was fine. Just cut it up into small pieces/ I guess it depends on how you like your steak really, i like mine medium rare which was very easy to eat.

I hope it goes well for you

Thanks Hannah :)

I have to go check out your story now that we are overbite buds.
Funny part is, I never really THOUGHT I had much of an overbite until all of this went underway, lol. I just thought your teeth were supposed to overlap? The thought of the top and bottom TOUCHING is too too exciting!!!! it's the little things in life!!!!

Take Care and good luck!!!!

ps.
I like my steak well done (it's the Irish in me, we cook everything until it's got a shoe-like texture!) so I won't be doing filets for a while!!! LOL

Hi Katie,

Congrats becoming a member!!! Your braces look great!

I ate steak for the first time a couple of days ago and it wasn't to bad, everything needs to be cut up small. You might not be able to eat it as well done as you like it since it may be on the tougher side.

I'm a twin mom too. My soon to be six year old twin girls think that my braces are cool! They love to tell me how pretty they are. I guess it's a girl thing.

As far as the teasing thing goes, not all of my friends know. I didn't really tell anyone. While I was getting my braces 6 weeks ago, my one g/f texted me asking me about my tin grin. One of my co -workers thinks my braces are charming, cute huh! I was more of a wreck to see how people would respond to me about the braces and either no one cares and says nothing or people will tell me about their experiences and drop it.

Just do yourself a favor, stay hydrated and use wax when needed. I always carry a bottle of water with me and I always have my advil nearby.

Congrats on getting braced! Welcome to the forum!! You'll get used to everything. I was ready to rip mine out by the second day, but less than a week later I was fine! And for all the people out there concerned about age when getting braced..My ortho told me that he had a 70-something year old woman come in and get braces! So there's no such thing as "too old". And I felt bad because I thought 24 was too old... Good luck with your treatment!!

Thanks everyone!!! :D

Today is day three and I must say I woke up feeling a HELL of a LOT better this morning! Phew!!!!
Still not up for chewing, but my mouth is no where near as sore as it was yesterday, so that is a GOOD thing :rawk:

browneyedgrl- my eldest (singleton) is six and he is the guy who thinks I am a dork, LOL. so maybe it's a twin thing!!! my twinks think they are the coolest, they keep asking if they can touch them  ya never know where four year old boys hands have been, so I'm trying to sway that question kindly! And thanks for the tips. I've been drinking lots of water so far. I'm normally a pretty good water drinker so that hasn't been too much of an issue. I am LOVING my carmex, and finally broke out the wax before bed last night and am SO happy I did! What a diff!

Laranna- Good luck with your journey to a tin grin!!!! It's exciting and daunting at the same time isn't it?! I'd love to see pics of our matching smiles! Let me know if you have a "story" up so I can keep track of yours as well!

Becca- Thanks for the welcome :) I just checked out your story as well, and will be keeping up with your journey too!

Hi Katie,

Congrats on your braces! Wow, that must've been hard to have your little one crying  My youngest is four and he just kept asking me to show them to him and then he wanted to take a picture...too cute! My older kids arent' home from school yet so they havent' seen them. Hmmm, wonder what they'll say :?:

I didn't have to have the "cheek separator" thingy's. My ortho just held my cheek out of the way. I've seen pics and they look really uncomfortable. Oh well, you're done now and on your way to a beautiful, healthy smile!! :jump:

Hi Katie,

My eldest (singleton -- who is 10)will definitely needing braces in the near future. I figured that I'll take him for a consult over Spring break, just for a baseline check. He's such a wreck over the whole thing. He hates to brush his teeth, so it's a total chore to him, but when he went to the dentist last week he got in trouble. Now he's doing much better, but he watches me as I have my evening routine and I think that he's already stressing out over the whole thing. As far as the hands thing goes, I totally know what you mean. My twinnies, love to get dirty too and I can't stand it!!!

I'm glad to hear that things are getting better!!!

Hey Kate! I never knew I have an overbit until I went to the ortho, either. I'm like you in that I thought my teeth were supposed to be like, that! Lol! :D I now have these things called Turbo Stops behind my top two front teeth that keep my teeth from touching. Very annoying. I'll have to check out your braces story. Good luck with everything! I gets better!!

Day 4: Woke up this morning, feeling less jaw pain ALRIGHT!
Ran into the kitchen to make a quick breakfast for the kiddies before they leave for school, take a sip of coffee and YEOWWWWWWW!!!! My front tooth felt like it had been shocked with something electric!!!
run into the bathroom, low and behold.....chipped front tooth

My top teeth have been knocking my bottom brackets since they were put on. I was supposed to get the Turbo bites, but somehow on braceday they were overlooked. I called the office later to let them know, and they said no prob, they'd put them on April 8th on my next appointment.
Well, with all of the teeth grinding, and jaw clenching, I guess it was bound to happen.

Went in this afternoon, no ortho in; but the assistant looked at me and said "Yikes" that chip isn't the best. When you chip the corner of your tooth it really never takes to bonding. Come in Tuesday and doc will file the tooth, put on the turbo's and fit you for a night-time mouth guard.

So that was that.
I really wish that someone would've listened to me when I called and said they had forgotten something rather important, considering how deep my overbite is. But, what can you do? What's done is done. Now I just have to sit back and wait until Tuesday morning at 8am. :(

Oh no! That's not good :(

I've been dreading getting those turbo stops ever since my sister had them and I was told I would get them when I get my bottom braces on and hearing all the stories on how ppl hate them(I think Becca has them). Now, after hearing your story, I'll be sure to have them put on even if my ortho forgets!

I'm sure you'll get it fixed and it'll look great but sucks not being able to drink coffee! I'd look like this  if I didn't have mine!! lol
Keep smilin'! :)

Oh, Katie, that's terrible chipping a tooth!

I can't believe when you called them back after your first appointment they said not to worry - they'd take care of it next time! As if it wasn't a big deal! Geesh!

I have to commend you for you attitude regarding the whole situation!

Tuesday morning is a long time for you to wait! Hope it goes by quickly and no more teeth get chipped! :D
