Hi folks, it's been a while since I was on here - I didn't bother posting after my last adjustment since the photo was pretty much the same...not a lot of movement these days, just fine tuning I think!

Here is adjustment 7:

And this week I've had adjustment 8:

This time he's wrapped a thin wire around all of my bottom brackets. As if I didn't get enough food stuck in them already :x

I've recently passed the 1 year mark and at the current rate of adjustments I could only have 3 left. Of course that may change, but I have fingers crossed that I'll be free in 6 months!

Hello again, time for another update...I'm losing count now but it's 14 months out of an estimated 18 and I'm told we just need to close the gaps now! In order to do that I have the final wire down below, complete with hooks, and new pieces of elastic to drag the whole lot into the gaps. Hopefully not too many more of these updates to write - bring it on!

Hello again, a couple of weeks late with this but here's my latest picture...

Image

Starting to get bored now - they're pretty much straight, nothing really changes between visits these days and the end is in sight. Latest prognosis is that we're now closing the gaps, and we'll straighten the bottom ones at the end. No news on a removal date, but after 15 months so far I'm not convinced it'll be within the 18 month estimate.

Time for another update...

Image

I was hoping to have these things off in July, but because the ortho is off on holiday my next appointment isn't until August...and even then it's now unlikely to be my last - bottom teeth still need lining up properly so it's another few months at least. Very disappointing :(

Not my usual kind of update here, but I thought this was worth a mention.

Standing with my mate in a bar at the weekend, we were approached by two girls who claimed we looked miserable and told us to smile. Imagine my horror!

"I don't do smiling...no, not me..." I claimed. "Come on, let's see a smile!" she insisted.

So I went :-#) ... "There. That's why I don't smile."

And to my amazement, she then lectured me on how I shouldn't try to hide my brace and that I had, in her exact words, "a lovely smile".

That made my weekend, and gave me the first indication that all this is going to be worthwhile.

I am no scared to smile! I have always been a big smiler. Even with my terrible dirty crooked teeth I was a big smiler. And now with my braces I am proud to smile!

Hopefully this will be one of my last updates now. As suspected, yesterday's adjustment wasn't my last visit, but there are signs that I'm almost there. He had a longer inspection than usual before getting to work, and proceeded to install a thinner wire on the bottom - because the lower gaps are now completely shut. Just some tiny gaps left up top. The biggest development was ELASTICS...every day before bed I now have to tie my mouth shut with these things  . Should be fun, especially after a few beers!

And so the next visit in 9 weeks could be my last. He suggested that I may need another visit after that, but I have hope.
