Hi Dane,
Yes, that spring does look annoying...hope it's not so "buggy" soon . I will be getting one spring, probably next appt., but it'll be near the back of my upper left. 8 extractions at once!?!?! Yikes!! You are one brave soul . I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at once and that was no piece of cake. Glad to hear all went well!
I look forward to following your progress...later !!

Dane, I laughed aloud when I read "Riday." I too had some odd sounds coming out and then ended up sounding like Shelly Marsh from South Park and Neil from Family Guy. Now all those funny sounds have almost all but disappeared. I am having a bit of trouble saying my "th" and "s" when I try to talk quickly. But I would prefer learning how to enunciate my words again over having the teeth I started with. Your lips and tongue will just have to adjust to your perfect smile under construction.

Dane: I enjoyed your story and just want to tell you that you have great teeth and they will look wonderful when straightened.
Don't worry too much about your speech. Sometimes it can be used for good. I lisped for about three weeks and I still drool and spit through my gap when I'm talking. It's embarassing to give a closing argument in court and spit all over the podium. But what really cracked me up, and also gave me an evil satisfaction, was the day I turned to address my opposing counsel and I spit on his paper! He deserved it---annoying little....
I was slightly embarrassed but not much.

Dane, your teeth are extremely white!! I'm so jealous! I too just got my braces on, 9 days after you and I'm 26 and hope to have mine off before my 28th birthday! Haha. I have a jutted out incisor, one that was initially less buck than my other front tooth. It just doesn't seem to want to move as quickly as the other one. When the light hits it you can see this huge shine on that tooth and the other one looks dark in comparison. I do not look good in pictures right now But when those pearly whites are straight you're gonna have a killer smile! Looking forward to reading about the rest of your journey!
WOW! Eight extractions! AT ONCE!!! I think that deserves a medal or something!
I had five at once and developed a partial dry socket in one even though I followed their directions to a T!!
After seeing your photos it makes me wonder if I will need springs. I'll have to check with my ortho at next next adjustment! That definitely does NOT look like fun!

Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for all the kind words everyone! It's great to know so many people understand where I am coming from with the whole speech thing; it helps more than one would think! And Mellimoo and Micachica, thank you both for such a lovely compliment - it really made my day! Braced32, I'd love a medal - I like anything shiny!!!! Seriously, I was so worried about getting dry sockets; I thought I might get one but I was lucky. The springs I've got are kind of annoying, but (just like the braces themselves) you do get used to them after a while - they're no where near as bad as when I first got them. Hopefully, I will get the springs off by September though- that's when I go to America for a holiday and I'm hoping that I don't have the spring coils so it wont be in all my holiday happy snaps (come to think of it, I might ask the Ortho when the spring coils may be able to come off…will see what he thinks).
Well, now for some bad news (well, it's not thaaaaaaat bad really). Over the last couple of days my second premolar/bicuspid has been hurting more than I would have expected. At first I just thought it was some more movement and the braces were doing what was needed however, after looking really close at the area where the pain is, it appeared that the arch wire had come out slightly from the bracket - kind of like it sorta popped out. I wasn't sure, so I put some pressure on it and sure enough, the wire went back into the bracket but 'popped' straight back out again. I'm thinking that the lig isn't holding it in properly anymore… I'm not sure if it is because the tooth has moved too much or if the lig itself has just decided not to work so hard.
Anyway, called my Ortho immediately and I've got an appointment scheduled this coming Monday, April 7th. I'm thinking my Ortho is going to put on tie wires instead of the rubber ligs, at least for that part of my mouth. I guess we'll see. Other than that, things are going along swimmingly; at least that's what I think anyway, the Ortho might take one look at my teeth on Monday and be like "Uh-oh!!??!!??!". Hehehe.
My secret wish is that when I see my Ortho I get an adjustment (earlier than expected), replace the ligs that have gone slightly discoloured AND be told that my progress is going wonderfully (plus, hearing that I am looking after things really great and that I am one of the best patients again would be nice too, but hey - I can't be too picky and choosy now can I?? Hehehe).
Will let you all know how the appointment goes on Monday night!!! Fingers crossed everyone!
Thanks again for all the support I've been getting. I will look at getting some more pics online soon as well. I found some better photos that my Ortho took back in November last year when I had my initial consultation...comparison time me thinks!!!

Melissa, crossing your fingers worked wonders for me!!
Okay, as promised I said I would let you all know how my appointment went. Recap: The archwire had sort of popped out a bit so I ended up seeing my Ortho about 4 weeks before my scheduled adjustment. I was hoping he would make an adjustment, change ligs etc.
My Orthodontist took one look in my mouth and was like, "Wow, there's lots we can do today! We can also take off the spring coils on upper and lower and put the brackets on!" I was in disbelief that he was taking the spring coils off...I couldnt' believe it and it was really hard to keep the smile off my face!!!
I thought about my stained ligs again and decided to ask him if I could get the ligs changed over as well so I said "Do you think I could get the ligs..." and before I even finished he was laughing and saying "Yes Fusspot, I'm going to do the whole lot for you, don't worry." He makes me feel so at ease. He also told me that at anytime if I want my ligs changed just to call and he will fit me in, further adding that it was no problem whatsoever. He really does make the time and he really seems to appreciate the whole braces journey.
Anyway, he took out the archwire from top and bottom and it felt so weird...the spring coils were GONE!!! I was sooooo happy I could have jumped over the moon (I was even so excited when I got in my car to drive home that I let out a big cheer of happiness, I just couldn't contain myself, lol).
He put brackets on my two lone teeth and fiddled around for a while doing what needed to be done. He then told me that things were going to get a bit tight...OH.MY.GAWD! He soooo was not lying! The pain during this adjustment was probably the worst pain I have had to date during my entire braces experience. I felt my whole body tense up. He acknowledged the pain and said to me "I'm sorry, I'm being very mean to you, I know" but he was still reassuring and kept asking me if I was ok, which was good.
So, he is now working on twisting my left central incisor back and bringing the tooth next to that forward. He is really happy with my progress so far and also said that the the lower teeth were aligning very nicely. I.AM.STOKED!
I've been braced now for two months and although the changes aren't necessarily all that visible to most people, I can see the changes. Just getting the spring coils off has given me further confirmation that I am totally doing the right thing...I feel as though I have already reached a bit of a landmark in a way, y'know??? I remember getting the spring coils on and now, they're already gone!!! They did they're job and I couldn't be happier right now.
I will get some pics up very, very soon.

Hey All,
Here are the pics I said put up. I can see some changes so I'm very pleased so far!
I must admit, posting pictures of my teeth online only feels weird, especially seeing as noone can see my face...focusing in on my teeth only, and not being able to see my face at all, makes me look like I'd be some wild troll, lol. I promise that I'm not a wild troll!

Dane, fantastic news! It sure is a joyful occasion when we know our treatment is going well and appliances are taken off or added to progress. I'm sure by the time your holiday comes along, your teeth will be camera ready even with the braces on.
