10 weeks does seem a bit long. I have self-ligating and my ortho wants me in there every 6.

Hey Tomm,
Yes you probably have an ortho who has a dedicated office at one location , my ortho has different branches and in the midst of handling them all, adjustments get pushed to 10 weeks apart :(

hey soniabaldeo
Thanks for paying it forward, but having braces has been quite a journey for me already , some folks fully embrace and have been supporting whilst others have been immature. I do not care what the latter have to say because i know at the end of the day I am benefitting from the treatment.

Small world that you found forum too and your ahead of me by two weeks.
notice any significant improvement ? I seemed to be obessed !

Cheers

Hi Kish...just wanted to stop by and say congrats on taking this step...I just got braced two days ago and am trying to keep my head up. I have in-ovation C on uppers and in-ovation metal on lowers. It's been much harder than I expected, and everyone keeps asking me why I needed braces b/c they thought my teeth were fine! So discouraging! I am 28/f from Toronto as well (Mississauga), small world! Who's your ortho?

I think I'll start my own Braces Story. I think it'll help me feel a little better about this process, b/c I have been nothing but grumpy for the last two days. :(

Cheers.

hey thunderkat

My ortho is schacher , its right beside square one, you know what the first few days i was in the phase " wtf am i doing " but you will get over it
i suggest you look through people who have finished their treatment and you will see how it will all be worth it . I know what you mean when people do not understand , they tell me too , " oh your already 21 and your girlfriend does not mind why now " . End of the day , you want to live your life to its fullest.
Wait till the 2nd week or so , you will seldom remember they are there. [/b]

Hey..thanks, my gums hurt. :( Did yours at first? I thought these self-ligating brackets weren't supposed to hurt? Are you able to talk properly? I am having a hard time putting together a sentence, all you can hear is my lisp! Please tell me I'll learn how to talk again soon!!

Funny, my ortho is across from Sq 1 also, but not the same one! :o

Did you decide on your trip? I think you should be fine, you're 2 months in right?

Thanks for responding! Talk to you soon.

Hey Thunderkat
Yeah the first week or the first 5 days, do not reflect the rest. Yes you will be able to talk , its your S's it was my P's and B's which bothering me , you will overcome that no problem.
Small world eh , I cannot fathom how kids go through this process, I Mean your diet is modified for while.
Yeah so far the vacation is still on , gotta make sure i get the address of an orthodontist nearby in case of an accident.
I am not even passed the one month stage I got braced on Mar 3rd, How frequent are your appointments ? My first one is 2 months apart and I am quite bothered because after googling some orthondtic journals , adjustments can Ideally be made within 3 -4 weeks , I believe its because the volume of patients that most office are not able to deliver this kind of service.
Forive my rant.
so when you going to post your story ? It will be a good progress indicator , take a lot of pictures in the hindsight it will assure that the step is worth it
Cheers

Thanks for the reassurance, I am feeling a little better today.

I'm in the same boat - my appts are also two months apart which really sucks, especially having these buildups on my molars...argh! Did your ortho apply your braces or did the dental assistants (not sure of their official title)? I assumed my ortho would, but that wasn't the case...he just took a two second look after they were on and said "we'll see you in 8 weeks". I thought that was a tad impersonal to say the least...

I will definitely take some pics this week, although I am shy about posting on here. We'll see how that goes... :?

Molar Buildups are the worst ! when i first got them I try grinding them down with my teeth i tried brushing hard to see if they would subside. Give it a week your jaw will re -adjust. Yeah majority of the work was done by the assistant and the ortho just came to place the brackets for which he timed himself it took 14 mins and claimed to be getting faster, It disappointed me a bit because I dont want someone to be hasty while bonding braces !

I guess you chewing everything with your back molars huh , a little tip - try and avoid looking at your braces ever so often, when i first got them I was obsessed then I decided I would not stare at them for the next two weeks.
two Weeks later i notice some subtle changes and it really hypes you up .

Cheers

One Month Update

#28 Post by wallywest »

Here is the one month update folks, so far the bite guards have eroded to the point where they do not make a difference, Flossing is a the biggest pain in the rear end. My upper front two teeth ache like hell when it touches the one in the bottom .

Congrats on your 1 month! Did you manage to not look at them that much over the month? I'm on my 3rd month and I still can't stop staring at them whenever I get a chance lol...

6 Month MILESTONE ! Pics on page 3

#30 Post by wallywest »

Its been quite a while since I last posted, I seldom realize that I have braces anymore. There is been a lot of movement and the I can now fathom a end to this journey . I am using elastics, however I have slightly modified the prescribed way to fasten the result.
My ortho never tells me the course of action so that really bugs me.

here are the pics guys
