So today was the big day!!!!! I got my new grill!!! I do have to go back next tuesday though to put in the bands at the back on my left side as I needed spaces for that side. I am sill feeling ok-ish. Just a pain to eat/ drink soup. I already have a few bruises on my bottom lip though, but other than that I'm fine.

Will post pics soon and come with an update as well a few hours from now :)

Congratulations!

You seem a lot more excited than I was when I first got my grill. My initial reaction was "Oh dear God, what have I done to my face?"

You'll get used to the feeling after several days. I can remember wanting to rip those things out of my face. Not because of pain, but just that the pressure felt so strange.

Take care! Try to stay ahead of the pain :)

Just coming over to check how you're doing. Still a lot of pain? Mine lasted for about a week...then slowly got better. Its weird when you can't bite into a SOFT cookie.
Hope you're still happy about your decision to get braces.

I'm really really happy I'm getting this done. It is so weird that I cant chew anything at all. No matter how soft. :(

How are you doing? I just read your story :) Just try to eat things that don't require any chewing and take something over the counter for the pain. On a good note, you'll probably notice a lot of movement quickly, my lowers were almost like that, the two laterals were locked behind the centrals.

I think it is just terrible that when you can't eat, all you want to do is eat lol. I've seen that sentiment posted in here a bunch lately.

So I got the rest of my bands put on (very back ones) and now I am in for a second round of this dreadful discomfort. I still cannot bite or chew anything at all. Everything I simply swallow. I will post pics when I get home as I have some restrictions at the office as far as the internet goes. I actually cried this morning because I didn't feel to eat/drink breakfast. I have soup for lunch, but I am not looking forward to it because the urge to actually EAT something is so strong, I'm getting depressed. I don't have dinner because after struggling to feel satisfied on liquid lunch and breakfast, I just cant do it at dinner time again. I told my lunch mates at the office to have lunch without me today as I can't sit and watch them eat.....I usually eat about six times a day (I'm 109lbs) and I think I might start whithering away just now :(

I'm sorry to rant, but no one else gets me. The liquid diet is just not working out. I'm also vegan so this limits what I can eat as well. Tonight I may treat myself to some pasta, (if I can swallow it) but I will see how that goes.

Hey! I didn't have molar bands, but I too couldn't chew anything in the 1st couple of weeks either, coz of the molar buildups.
What I did was to use my tongue to mash stuff against the palate (which got a bit sore but not severe). I frequently had soup, and I dunked bread into the soup till it was mushy so that it'd be easy to swallow; I like soup so I was ok with that. Dunking cookies into milk is a treat too. =)
Other things like instant oats, tofu, omelette helped to add some variety.
Fish is easy to mash against the palate, but I guess that isn't part of a vegan diet...

Hang in there, it will get better, really. It'll be worth it.

The liquid diet will come and go throughout the process during the times when you're particularly sore. I keep chocolate protein shake mix and throw together chocolate banana smoothies on those days when I just can't chew breakfast. I'm sorry you're having a rough time! It does get better and it will all be worth it in the end! When all else fails try to have a few margaritas! The next morning your pain will transfer from your mouth to your head! :) Good luck!

If you overcook the pasta slightly as well as make more sauce than you need, it will be easier to eat without chewing. I loooove pasta and I remember doing it like that when it was too uncomfortable to eat anything. Fortunately I like soup too, and there are lots of vegetarian varieties, even some you can make yourself :)

I imagine that I'll still have trouble chewing occasionally, even if I am able to take out an appliance it won't mean my teeth won't hurt when I eat lol.

Hi Shelby!

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time chewing. Is it because of the pain or molar buildups? If it's from the pain, this may sound strange but chewing actually helps the pain go away quicker. I started eating pasta and soggy toast a day or so after getting braced and it really helped. Yeah, my bite was SUPER off, so it took forever, but aside from right after an adjustment, I haven't had much pain.

Hang in there, sweetie. It will get better...

So....Bonjela is my best friend :) My last tooth on the bottom right is giving me problems as the molar band is embedded into the gum and its swollen. I still can't chew after 10 days, it's just too painful (during and after attempting). I have no other pain really...and I used my waterpik for the first time tonight :D talk about love at first use!!

Anyhoo....here are my pics...

You can see some of the bands on the molars...I have a few more to put in early July...NOT looking forward to that....those bands are a nuisance to get in. I think they already look different...hehehe....my bite is whack right now though :S

BTW....I have in frosty blue bands :D
