hehehe don't be anxious! I was beforehand, but seriously, thank about the beautiful straight teeth that you would have after your 2 year 'sentence'!!! (ME TOO) :)

Braces are becoming more and more common, I don't think age matters, no one said you had to be a little kiddie if you are to get your braces. But I sure hate the people who goes 'Oh why are you getting your braces, you should have got it 5 years ago!'

My pain, mhm, sometimes for like 10 min or so, I experience no pain but sometimes it hurts like crap (sorry, bad choice of word). I guess I'll just have to grow used to it.

Wow, lucky you having insurance............I know I know hehe......but here in NZ, we don't have insurance, hence we have to pay the full fees ourselves :/

Have fun, I see, tomorrow is the day :)

I have Damon brackets, clear on the top front 6 and the rest metal. I'm glad I don't have elastics to worry about, that's for sure! As for the chewing thing, don't worry it will get better. It took me about 2 weeks to be able to chew things normally again, but everyone is different. The key is to make sure you're trying to chew and not just staying on soft foods. If you baby your teeth they won't get used to chewing more solid foods again, and how boring would it be to only eat yogurt and soup? lol I can pretty much eat everything I did before braces, except really hard/chewy candy...but I didn't eat much of that anyway! Biting into things is still difficult, I can only really bite into softer stuff, but if you cut stuff up you can chew perfectly fine! I hope you're adjusting more, it gets easier everyday!

Oh ya, Bip, I am probably getting bite turbos---things stuck to the back of your front teeth so you cant close your mouth all the way--so my top and bottom brackets dont clash--I heard they are awful for eating.

Do you get any appliances later?--I will have the forsus appliance--guess that's not too cool either...

Tomorrow is B-day....hmmm

Thanks stepher7 for your encouragement! I am beginning to feel better with chewing slightly harder stuff now, and by that I mean, a bit harder than soft soft cake :P Actually, I am quite proud to say that I havn't had yoghurt and only a bit of soup these days, being eating mostly fruits :) Ah you are lucky, elastics (do you mean the ligatures? or the ones that line up your bite?), I have to get those that correct my bite :/ and I spy about 4 elastic holder things (whatever you call those) on my braces :/ heheh I shall take your advice and graduallly chew harder stuff :)

klobird HAPPY BRACES DAY!!!! :jump: ENJOY your 2 hours or so on the dental chair (the fun times :P) AH, bite turbos, that sucks, I don't have them, but I can just imagine how bad it would feel not to be able to bite completely down, the braces themselves have made my teeth not being to bite down onto my normal position for some reason.

I am going to have elastics, I am fearing the worst, I have found a total of 4 elastic hook/holder things on each side, so 8 in TOTAL...omg.

Yup a race to the finish!! Definitely!! :) Congrats on getting your braces again and try to endure the pressure and pain associated with it :P

2 days down......

#22 Post by Beauty is Pain »

This is the second day since I had braces. AND I am paying a visit to my ortho's office because one of the brackets came off :/, uh oh, I wonder how it did that. mhm nevertheless, my chewing has become easier but it is still painful and I can not bite down on hard stuff. Attempting to eat a raisin yesterday was a huge mistake, it made my teeth hurt for like 2 hours. I am still eating mostly soft foods, but I have incorporated a lot of fruits into my diet, so I am eating sort of healthy at present.

Whilst I was brushing my teeth this morning, I thought my tooth (premolar or something) moved, I was ecstatic. But on closer inspection, I realised that in actual fact, it was the bracket that has come off, false hope ah. Bonjela is my best friend at the moment since my inner mouth is developing ulcers, (note to self: I need to ask for wax today).

I am surprised that I would survive two days! At the first signs of pain the day before yesterday, I just wanted to rip my braces out and give up. There is hope after all!

You are 2 days ahead of me--so it's like you are creating the path for me--lucky you!!!
I read your posts, and go "ok, don't do that" or "do this"--because BiP had to learn the hard way....(sorry!)

OK, so just under 11 hrs and counting----yikes!!!

No worries klobird, just don't make the same mistakes as I did. 11 hours, hehehe have fun! Sorry I keep on thinking it is NZ times, which means it is already the night of the Friday, hence the early happy B-day :P I got my bracket put back on 10 minutes ago, they had to take out the wires for 3 teeth. Enjoy your last hours of FREEDOM :) and ASK ASK for wax if they forgot..(mhm), they are a lifesaver!

10 minutes ago, my bracket was put back on. To my relief, it was not my fault, but rather because it was situated over a filling (not from cavities, it is from the extraction of a small minut teeth which grew sideways and knocking into that teeth), so the glue doesn't work as well. At the end, to check to see if other brackets slipped, my ortho applied pressure to every single one and unintentionally, it was PAINFUL. Nevertheless, it is OK for now, and wax and bonjela and lip balm have been my best friends for the past few days since ulcers are developing rather rapidly. I am beginning to be able to chew harder stuff now, to my relief though.

klobird, don't get freaked out too much :P I know the feeling though, I was soo anxious and was seriously just counting down the hours, but once you get onto the chair, you know there is no turning back and that is when I started to relax. You would of got your braces by now. How are you doing?? Not too sore I hope? :)

3 days down, right now I am CRAVING dark chocolate. But unfortunately, due to the weird feeling of my teeth and bit, I can not withstand hard food, let along a block of chocolate :/ Hopefully, I'll get used to this soon. NO wonder my friend told me that braces are good for a bit of wait losing, finally I believe her. Ah cleaning is such a pain, brushing takes forever and that is not even counting flossing. Now flossing, should I stick with regular floss or use those with a stiff end or use a threader? Any opinions are welcomed!

Congratulations on getting braced!

I have found that I can "eat" chocolate by sucking on small pieces at a time. It definitely takes care of those chocolate cravings! And, chocolate cake!!!

I have tried different methods of flossing - the kind with the stiff end and using the plastic threader. I don't really have a preference, they both seem to work the same for me.

Congratulations again!
