Your teeth are so much like mine! Except mine are not as white. :( I have a very similar space, etc. Today is my brace day, for the top teeth. Congratulations on getting over your fear and taking your first step. :) I still feel funny about me doing it at 39, but I, too, want to be a good example to my daughter (she is almost 5) in case she needs braces some day. I'll post pics and a story soon, but I was so struck by how similar our teeth are (except I have a slight underbite). Good luck with everything!

Hi Angel,

As everyone says, you have lovely teeth. Your brace is very discreet; I bet very few people notice it. You are heading for a fabulous smile!

I'm really touched by the kind comments and am really grateful for your support.

It's only been 6 days and I know this sounds crazy but I have seen a tiny amount of movement-a tiny space that wasn't there is in front of my right canine and my teeth which flared out to the sides slightly in front of my incisors aren't flaring in front now, the arch starting to line up better from inside as I can feel it :-)

Not crazy at all, I could get interdental brushes into places they'd never been before after just 2 days....

9 days in and i'm starting to get used to these things!

I have eaten out twice now (twice in 2 days) and am finding it easier to eat things at the back of my mouth-sometimes I still find a tiny bit of darker food in the front of my ceramic brackets but a quick brush and it has gone. I ate a sandwich for the first time yesterday-that wasn't so good as I had bread around the wire around most of my mouth :-( Feels odd at times as it feels like my back tooth is really wobbly and with slight pressure on it I can see the tooth (and bracket by default) wobble :-(
I think eating at the back is easy as I have one back bracket missing and it will probably be a challenge when I get that rebonded within the next week or so :-(

People aren't noticing it (well as far as I am aware) and over the weekend my speech has started to improve again as I am getting used to things.

Other then that and the slight movement I have noticed (a gap at the side appearing as my teeth are lining up to deal with my diastema) nothing else to report.

Angel, thank you for responding to my posting and giving me the link to your story. You have absolutely beautiful teeth, my dear. They would stunning once your treatment is all finished. Maybe there is hope for me after all because the gap between my teeth is much smaller than yours (at least as far as I can tell). How far along are you in to your treatment and when do you expect to be able to have your braces removed?
Did you have to have any extractions?

Hi Dee

I am now 17 days in and have an estimate of between 8-9 months. As I previously said I was going to haver aligners but it would have taken twice as long and wouldn' have been as refined and I know I will have a better end result with fixed (even though it wasn't what I wanted to do-Going clear with coated archwire was the only way I convinced myself to go for fixed)-what do you think with regards to the aesthetic looking fixed?

I have not needed any extractions as I have all the space needed due to my diastema at the front. Once things are straigheter I will have clear powerchains to close the gap.

I have an ortho appointment this week to re bond my back bracket and late next week I have my first adjustment appointment-Fingers crossed I will be able to go up to a 0.14 wire :-) I am wondering whether I will be starting with my removable bite plate to reduce my overbite, which will also give me a better end result (Have tried it but couldn't talk with it though-speech was so bad!)

Went back today and had my back bracket replaced, after it came off. I didn't realise how uncomfortable having the ligs taken off and replaced would be.

I have my dreaded bite plate, to try and reduce my overbite & should in theory stop my bruxism and improve my bite. It was mentioned to wear it at night to get used to it but I have made myself wear it whilst I'm at home too-my speech is very lispy and I am salivating like crazy with it :-( I think it was mentioned a while ago that I could need it up to about 3 months :-(

That is my journey so far, along with about 0.5 mm closure of my diastema already :-) I still need to go back for my first adjustment late next week, confused as ligs etc were changed today-probably a more in depth look at progress, the bite plate and the newly bonded bracket.

Hope to post a picture very soon!

Do people with a gap between their front teeth always need powerchains? I keep seeing a lot of references to those things. They look like they must be very painful so I am hoping the answer to that question will be a resounding NO.
I don't have any kind of an overbite. If anything, I think I may have a bit of an underbite because my bottom teeth have always hit into my two front teeth when I close my mouth.

I have been told that I will be having powerchains when my teeth are more upright/straighter to close the gap. I think where gaps are involved it is highly likely that powerchains are used-I am dreading it because I have heard that there is alot of pressure and can be painful!

Everything I've read seems to indicate that powerchains are always used to. I am also being told this but am not going to panic too much until I actually have an assessment by an orthodontist which isn't scheduled for at least a month. I am dreading the whole ordeal if you want to know the truth.

Your story is similar to mine. I am getting ceramic braces on my upper teeth on August 6. My treatment time is 9 months as well. Most of my problems are teeth spacing and a couple crooked teeth.

Your teeth are really pretty and are going to look awesome once everything is complete. :D

I just went for my first adjustment today (1 month in).

Things were definitely uncomfortable when the ligs were removed and as they were replaced. I have gone up an archwire size (by 0.1) and I believe I am on a 0.13 now.

Had good progress and movement by 1 mm :-)

Am starting to get used to this awful bite plate now to reduce my deep bite, hopefully the quicker it works the quicker it goes!

Here is a photo (as promised)-

Photo 1 month in-

Photo days after braces were fitted-

I am very pleased with the progress so far-Will post another photo in a month after my second adjustment!
