Hi There, Denise!

I just read your story and I have to tell you that you have made amazing progress in just one year. I, too, have a 100% overbite, but yours already looks so much better! Congrats on your one year Anniversary!

Denise:
I can't really say whether or not your elastics will help with your profile. It looks to me that the problem may not be your lower jaw but your upper one. If that's the case, elastics may not take care of the problem. If I had your concerns, and I do think they're justified, I would ask my ortho some very straight forward questions. It is better to make the surgery decision now instead of months before you're wire free.

Before seriously considering surgery, I'd look into whether my medical insurance would pay for it. I'd then ask myself long term would I be happy with 80%. For myself, I'd lived with a less than pleasing result for thirty years and was asked by a twenty something, "If you've committed to braces, why stop with a compromise?" I'd done that already and decided I didn't want to do it again.

Is it worth it? I'd ask Meryaten for her wisdom. I'm pre surgery, she's been through it.

There is a difference between your profile pics; I think it would be a good idea to address your concerns with your ortho. Can you make an extra appointment with him so you can get 15 minutes to talk to him just about your concerns?

I love the pic of you and Gracie! You look so happy, and you have a nice, natural, casual smile! :) And I love that she's so excited with her toy; Ginger is the same way - she loves Christmas! I'm glad to know we aren't the only kooky ones who buy and wrap presents for our dog, lol!

I wonder if your upper lips could use a bit more support from your jaw and your lower jaw come forward to match. Understand, I'm not an expert and its hard to be certain in the pictures how your lower jaw is in relationship to the top.

Oh Thank you Denise, I thought you forgot about it and I didn't want to bug you.

Finally I get to see a profile shot and not just the teeth. I'm having problems with my profile right now and hopefully my 4 extractions can help push my my lips.

Good luck Denise.

What a bummer, Denise! If it makes you feel any better all of us at AW can see the stellar progress you've been making; we'll give you all the praise you want! :D

Maybe he's saving up all his talking and praise for your next appointment... you're right it does seem far away, but I'm sure time will fly by. Hang in there!

Oh, and great news about Josh, sounds like he is in the home stretch!

Don't get discouraged I think the progress is quite remarkable and we knew going in this that it was for the the long haul.

I was going over you posts and one from Dec really hit home. I recently had an appt and the ortho put me back into an elastics config that he thinks will fix a midline problem that might set back my release date. Unfortunately it involves 5 elastics and between the brackets and elastics my smile looks pretty menacing. One of my students asked me about my braces the other day and as usual the first question was , "why not invisilign?" I explained to her the reasons and she shook her head and kinda shugged her shoulders like that is too bad. I got to thinking about it and realized it takes self-confidence and pride in one's self to go through this. The journey has bumps but we will be better off for making it.

Be well and smile with pride.

Hi Denise

Sorry to hear about your 'interference', that does sound a bit mysterious doesn't it. I wonder if it is similar to my 'blockage' that I had recently and the ortho changed one of my brackets. However I'm not sure that changing the bracket in my case worked as the gap that he was trying to close just isn't budging. I feel your frustration, I'm at around the same stage myself and feel that things are slowing down. I guess we'll just have to be patient and we'll get there eventually.

By the way, your teeth are looking fantastic.

Regards
Joney

Denise:
Had a chance to catch up with you. I hope things are moving better and your indention isn't as bad as it was. I hope at the March appointment you have a chance to bring up the surgery option. Even if you're considering it still and not decided one way or the other, the sooner the decision is made the sooner your treatment may end. In my case, much of the initial work had to be undone to get my teeth in the right position to be right after the big event. I also think that now you're an old pro giving newbies advice (does feel weird and good at the same time), you may be more willing to listen to the whys and why nots better. I know in my case when Dr. P first mentioned it at my consult I said NOOOO. Let's move on. I doubt if your reaction was much different.

Hey Denise!! I just read through the last couple of pages and WOW! haha I was so happy to see your "indention"!! I've got one too!! It's on my bottom lip though! It was a slice for a while and now it's a nice little indention all the way across. I've got to get pics on here so that you can see my "pout". I have more of a fish lip thing going on though. haha You're teeth are looking so good. The candid photo is awesome. Your smile looks really good. I'm jealous of that. When I got my teeth cleaned the last time I got the baking soda power wash and I loved it! I couldn't believe how well it worked. That was impressive.

Baseball is starting up here in about 3 weeks.. We've got a week of basketball left and then we're headed into that. We've been doing 5 nights of week of basketball and I figure it will be the same on the baseball. It gets old some nights but last night I saw a friends brand new baby and, sniff sniff... they grow up so fast! haha I keep trying to tell myself that it won't be long and I'll miss all the practice nights.

Talk to you soon sorry I rambled!

It's crazy how the kids and other parents you get to know during a sport season become family. One of boys rode motox for a while and you get super close to those parents. You're all together holding your breath and closing your eyes when those little guys/girls make those jumps. haha I feel so blessed to get to watch mine get bigger and better every year! haha I have to say that because that's not what I was screaming last night after an hour and a half IN THE CAR after work driving everyone from place to place. lol
The indentions are truly strange. I've had mine for almost 2 months. He said it's from the wire I've got down there right now. They've been "tracking" "trapping" I don't know what it is down there and when I've got that extra hump of wire it really makes a good one. It's a mess. I'm hoping mine will get to heal up and go away soon.

Have a great one!

Hi Denise! Good grief I cracked up on the elastics.. I think I'm getting those next week.. I know he said that they would remove the lower appliance and start elastics.. hmmm no idea what's going on. I just show up and write a check. lol I'll have to remember to always keep a good supply everywhere I go. I don't think I'd want anything in my mouth from the bottom of my purse. I cleaned it out the other day and I had 6 different kinds of sprays/perfumes.. no idea what that was about.

Baseball is officially rocking here this week. It's been chaotic but I LOVE IT!! I can't wait for the games to start...

Talk to you soon!
