There is a bit more uncomfortable when I’m eating today but can’t feel any pain besides that. The molar that have moved is very annoying because I can’t bite down on that side, it’s the one that hurt the most too. My ortho had to tie it together with another tooth so it would not steal the room in front of it - I have to make him feel a little guilty for that on my next appointment 8) . Haha!

Some of you guys started on a .16 wire, how did you survive? I started on a .13 and eating is a pain in the a**. As long as I don’t eat I can feel anything but when it’s time for food… :yuck:

Other than that I don’t have any complains. Can hardly feel it in my mouth but that can be because I had brackets on before putting on the wire and they were much more uncomfortable than with the wire on. Still waiting for some canker sores or something but so far so good

I feel I’m having it too easy compare to some of you guys!

Hey, As far as biting down in concerned im the same way right now I bit touching my lower right canine. I askedand she said it was normal.

I started on .013 as well.

thats good I had surgery for my kidney after i got the braces on and they put a tube down my throat to breathe for me and they pulled my lip to the side and wrecked the inside of my mouth with scarpes and canker sores. I also had a huge one the day I got my braces on from the GIANT retractors.

I feel like a little kid testing boundaries… I’m eating just as I used to do before got braces (the same stuff) just a little bit more slowly because of the pain. So far my braces are still there

And it feels like I have had braces my whole life, it feels so much longer than just three days. Very comfortable so far, I hardly notice them (but that might change in a few day for all I know). Still a little painful when I eat but I hope that will change in a few days. Have not had those “OMG what have I done” moment yet but they might come later as well

Have had my braces for a week and there is not much to say. Since day one I have hardly felt this metal thingy in my mouth as long as I don’t eat, because that has been a bit painful. It’s still a bit painful to eat at day 7 but I guess that is just part of the game.
Since I tend to get very annoyed when I can’t eat as I want to I mostly tend to ignore the pain and eat as I use to before getting braces (just soft food the first 2-3 days). Biting into a hamburger yesterday felt so good despite the soreness

Other than a sore spot after a poking arch wire these has not been any sores in my cheek yet. Have used some wax on and it’s almost healed. Did consider calling in to get it clipped but I have an app. next Friday and can wait till then. It feels like I’m living in my ortho’s and dentist’s office… :yuck:

And I thought that now that the braces were finally on that my anxiety towards braces stuff would get better but no…
My ortho showed me some biting plates thingy that I need on the backside of my upper front teeth when my bottom braces are on, and yeah… They have been on my mind since that day… No way that they are going in my mouth… Need to do some negotiation with my ortho on Friday. :soremouth:

And here we go again…. Damn… :-+

Hey my friend---Wow---you know I have always been honest with you, right? Well, I thought I was going to have those bite things too, and yes, I was freaked about it. And now, I can't comment because I ended up not having to have them.
So, on this one, ya, I agree that it would be stressful.

With that being said--I still would have gone ahead with it. I have panicked about a few things along the way...but just keep looking ahead and plowing through it...it's such a short time for such a huge payoff...

So ya, I understand your anxiety--but you are so on the right path, and I can tell how proud you are that you have taken the first step, and have the top braces now. I am proud of you too!

Maybe your ortho will have something else up his sleeve--maybe molar build-ups? They look more tolerable to me...hmmm..

Whatever, I know you are committed to this process now, and along with your ortho's help, will make good decisions!!

Take care my friend!!

Well, just 3 hours after I posted this I had to visit my ortho…

I’m skinny as a stick and therefor never have had any need for diet or to think about what I eat. If I want cake for breakfast then I eat cake for breakfast, if I want to eat tacos 4 am then I eat tacos 4 am. When I want some sort of food or candy then then I must have it. When it comes to eating I have very little straight, and it’s just amazing that I’m still skinny :? .

So today I found a store that has one my fav. candy; caramel with malt and coconut – tossed in powdered sugar. Have not tasted these for months and I knew that this one of the bad to eat things with a hug B, but my mind started to come up with different ideas on how I could eat those without breaking the braces. I ended up buying those just so I could suck on them.

Yeah, right… 5 min after I tried to chew carefully on them to get more taste and before I knew it my wire had popped out. It was no big deal but it did not want to go back in. Called in and since I was 3 mins from my ortho’s office I got an app. right away.
The first thing I could hear when I arrived was “You survived your first days!”

It went smoothly, he did not me for eating something bad. He explained that this tooth was crooked so the arch wire does not have as good grip on it. I just smiled and agreed (I guess nobody expect the shy person to do bad things! ). I felt a bit guilty….

Even though it was an “emergency” appointment he started to talk and ask about how I was doing with braces and my first days, and so on. And I just thought “no, you don’t have time for this. Don’t you have pt waiting? I will survive a fast appointment today”

I was hoping I would not need to go back next Friday too but he wanted to keep the appointment.

Since I love to write English I’ll just give a new update

I don’t think the reality of braces has hit me yet, that they are finally on my teeth. It feels so unreal! As long as I don’t eat I don’t feel them at all in my mouth. When I speak to costumers at work I totally forget about the braces. It’s so weird!
When do all the sores in my mouth and the other stuff I feared come? Where are all the things I feared? What? is this it? There must be something lurking around the corner… The treatment is still young!

No more no-no-food for my braces. One was enough, I’m now afraid to break them and that might be a good thing.
I need to change my mentally when it comes to eating, I can no longer eat what I want whenever I want. I’m not going to ruin this now that I finally got this cage on my teeth and this wonderful ortho. It’s now or never.

I would not have managed it without klobird, this ortho and you guys. Thank you for that!

Hey Eb--We knew you were freaking out unnecessarily, but some people.....hmmmm.....and then those same people go out and eat caramel????? Like a week into braces??? Have we learned nothing??? :gavel: Your ortho is waaayyyy to nice---mine would have added a $50 charge to my account just for being an airhead!!!

Eb, my metal mouthed friend, I am so happy that things are going well--there will be times when it's a little challenging, but you have gotten thru the biggest hurdle--just by getting braces!! In the last couple months, it has just gotten so normal for me that it's boring. I know now why so many newbies drop off the website. But like you, I just like to journal.

So keep journaling--I like to read too!! I have a question--how many people in Norway speak English? Like a lot, or not many, or it's unusual??.....when I was on your website I read something interesting that went kinda like this-- "aipaoa dkgnaoide sliaepbae alia eayco maoueta tsoehs...#^&*!9*&! ot*^ :!: " Well, that was before I turned the translator feature on..... and then I realized it meant "Hi"..... :-* :-* :-*

I will pm you this weekend

P.S. What kind of a stupid month has 4 weeks and 2 days!! I love it when the ticker goes to the next month!! Sooner or later anyway....

Klobird…klobird…klobird… it’s not just a caramel, it THE caramel. I almost wrote that I could send you a box so you could try them but… haha! You’re in the same boat as me

It’s not just a regular caramel, they make it like in the old days before they put all kinds of strange things in the candy that they do these days (these is actually bought in a health store lol not that I tend to hang in health stores). They are hard as stone and if you have a loose filling or tooth you will most likely lose it.
Right now they are in the kitchen calling my name and “eat us, eat us!”

Yes, he is too kind… That’s why I feel a bit guilty. Not doing it again  .
And the strange thing is that he does not seem to have charged anything extra for all those extra appointments and the effort he has been putting in to this. He has worked overtime and everything… Have to speak to him about this on Friday. He can’t have done all that for free.
I’m sure he will charge a little fee if I break anything like a bracket or something

About Norway and English; to find a Norwegian who can English is more and more common these days, much because of the internet and games. They also teach English at school but how good your English teacher is depends, my teacher was… yes… So I started to teach myself English. Reading English books (sometimes aloud when I was alone) and joined different forums where some members helped me to correct my posts. I even started to think in English
And I’m sure many other Norwegian has done the same to learn English. The young ones tend to be good in English but the older folks… hmmm
The good thing are that some older folks now try to learn English and I think it’s wonderful. Since I work in a bookstore I often get these and love to give them advice from my own experience.

Lol does Norwegian sound that strange for you? So “hei, håper du har det bra. Ønsker deg en god helg!» looks like «iuwegev 23iuv rei hqw3vsn v owjv» to you? Funny! Norwegian is a very difficult language to learn, not only do we have two types of it (!!) and you need learn both of them but the dialects are so different that even Norwegians sometimes has difficulties to understand each other. So even if you know both Bokmål and Nynorsk you still will have problems understand some Norwegians. I write Bokmål and speak a very strong dialect that is very unlike Bokmål, actually more like Nynorsk. So I don't write as I speak, they almost don't sound the same at all
Bokmål and Nynorsk is the official written language but we don’t have an "official" oral language.

Lol I saw that on your ticket. I wanted to congratulate you on your 9 months b-day but you ticket did not think you have had them on for 9 months yet lol But now they do so congratulation! :jump:  :jokerlaugh: :rose:  :-88

You are on 9 months and I'm on 9 days 8)

I think i'm a lot like you, haven't had any pain at all except when brushing where i am unsure which of my teeth may be sensitive but even thats not too bad!

Eating is the biggest inconveniece of having the braces but like you i'm getting braver all the time (no caramels fro me though).

Ps your pics are looking good, what lovely white teeth you have.. going to be awesome once you're done.

Hey caramel you could eat would be: The soft kind found in the Hershey Kisses. I broke my wire chewing on Cookie dough. And that wasn't even on the no-no list :(

Speaking of emergency appointments. I have literally 3 ends of the wire poking out;
2 on the top both sides. Usually I can slide the wire over but in this case it would not make a difference, and the wire is too thick to move.
1 on the bottom on the right hand side that last time I tried to cut but failed ane broke the bracket after her office told me I could. My friend who my orthodontist knows and hooked me up with her said he could cut it, but its soo small youd need a trained person to cut it without breaking it. What should I do? My appointments not until March 1. Ebony you are learning a lot and seem to know a lot more on how to deal with it than I do, I freak out.

I am sure your orthodontist will not charge a thing for your broken brackets. Mine does not, even though the policy is you pay for it to be replaced. Although I would imagine the reason why you were not charged is because you have the bracket and they can just reattach it like they did with mine.

Your orthodontist like mine is such a sweetheart. You are so blessed to have a good one especially one who knows what they are doing.

I cant eat a hamburger wahhhh :-(( I also have a tip for you. When and if you get elastics, when you eat make sure you take them out because if you don't occasionally they will snap and when they do snap, you will swallow it. I did and it was NOT fun. :-+

As of March 8th it will be half a year I have been in braces. It literally feels like it has been 2 weeks since I got my braces on.

Hey Ebony I've just caught up with your story. Can't help but laugh at you risking your new braces to eat a caramel lol. You do have to change the way you eat. Not just what you eat but when. I like to eat small meals through the day but I don't want to brush my teeth every time so I just swish water, poke a proxy brush around and make sure I brush soon after sugary things and at least 3 times a day so nothing sits there too long.

I'm glad you haven't had much pain! I wonder when you'll get a spring like me? I can't wait to see if your canine falls into line before mine. I reckon it will and that'll be so exciting! :D

Congratulations again, you've done a huge amazing thing! :jump:

On the appointment on Friday my ortho explained that we were going to try to move the premolar behind my canine a bit backwards so the canine could get a little more space. He said something about power chain when he was on his way out of the room to get what he needed and I almost jumped out of the chair thinking “what did he just say?!”

When he came back in to the room again the first thing I said was “I don’t like the thought this at all…” and was almost out of the chair. He then explained how he could not use a power chain as they usually are used because of the thin wire, he just needed it to put a little pressure on the tooth so it would move.

He would tie it to the last tooth and the tooth that needed moving, and not the tooth between them. It would be tied very weak and would work for 2-3 weeks. My other option was a string like the ones I already have and tie that that around that tooth and the one behind it, and this would work about an hour, moving the tooth that hour and giving the canine a bit more space.
Hate new things in my mouth, that’s why I feel more relaxed when I’m at my general dentist because I have done all of it before. I know how it feels and what to expect.
“But new things are fun!” he insisted
“Not in the mouth…” :?

We ended on the power chain and he gave me a mirror to watch what he did, explaining this and that, pointing here and there. When I had closed my mouth he had more to tell and I needed to open it again. This happen several times…
When we were finish he clapped his hand and said “Now you have tried a power chain too!”
He tied as loose as he could

When the part I’m dreading was finish we had our usually chat, which I enjoy every much. He always has something interesting to tell. Today’s topic?
Horses and Native Indians! Since he is from Canada he had a lot of interesting to tell about the Native Indians in Canada.

BSS: Haha, thanks! Yes, my ortho is wonderful! I feel very lucky that I got him.
Try not to freak out, I know it’s not easy. Put some wax on it and when the wax no longer can cover it maybe it’s long enough for your friend to clip it? Why don’t you try to get your ortho to tell your dentist how to clip it so he(?) can do it for you?

Littlered: Thanks! Yeah, I need to change the way and what I eat. I’m used to small meals like you. Have not managed to eat just big ones yet, but I’m trying… Maybe doing a little too much snacking lol
But I’m working on it!
It does not look like I need the spring. I extracted a tooth and therefore he did not need to use the spring to get more room, he had the room he needed. There is a possibility that I might need it at the bottom though.
