I'm glad your roots thing turned out to be a non-issue.

I also love your dancing K.K. Slider gif. Oh the hours I've wasted playing Animal Crossing Wild World on my DS. 8)

Yay--I'm so glad to hear all is normal with your roots (and you taught me and many others something to remember if we should ever see something similar on our own x-rays, so thank you!). I'm jealous you know how to knit--my hands don't seem to want to learn. I remember (from childhood) how to crochet--one single chain. I have no idea how to go on to the next row (craft idiot) here. I would love to be able to knit a sock!

Aw, you do! Just pick up a crochet hook and some yarn and you'll be crocheting something again!

It's like riding a bike! You just need to be reminded of all the abbreviations and a simple guide and you'll be off and running!

Thanks for all of your "root" replies and your knitting/crocheting comments!!! Image

I FINALLY got my Lower Lingual Bonded Retainer yesterday!

It's SO tiney and it's gold!! I will get a picture of it on here later.

It was an ordeal getting that little thing cemented into my mouth. Took about an hour and, true to form, part of it broke off before they were done and had to be re-cemented. Went through the whole procedure AGAIN for that one tooth. Also, I had one tooth that was STILL not straight so he had the assistant push on it really hard with a tool while she light-cured the cement. That worked beautifully! It is now straight and can't move!

My tongue plays with it a lot....I don't like that. I can definately feel it. It's only smooth when I slide my tongue over it from side to side. When I "lick it" it's rough... As my 12 year-old said, "then, STOP LICKING IT!" I will get used to it. This morning it annoyed me and I even stressed over the fact that I would have it FOREVER! This afternoon, it's not so annoying and feels smaller in my mouth.

I revel in the fact that I can just pop a bite of food into my mouth any time without taking the essex retainer out and hiding it. Image

Because of the lighting, they don't look perfectly straight, but they are!!

I bit into a piece of cheddar to check and yep, the incisal edges are all even. The light is reflecting off of the cement I guess.

Anyway, this is my new bling...I'm getting used to it very quickly. My tongue hasn't gotten sore AT ALL!! and I've been trying to stop licking it....

Looking good Jenilee, great that you don't have to worry about wearing or losing a retainer now. I'm sure you'll get used to it in no time, after all we get used to wearing a brace pretty quickly and it is a lot less invasive than a brace.

Love the gold colour.

but I personally think you'll always play with it. Something personally entertaining. Just a little lick when no one knows what you're doing? Oh yeah.

Yes, there is enough room at the base of my teeth to push regular floss through.

I use the tape type floss and I can pass it through without even lookin'.

Easy as it can be....not as easy as no wire at all, but much easier than braces! Image

Jenn

ps...still playing with it a little. It is feeling a lot smaller now. Felt like the Williamsburg Bridge at first! Image

Now it feels more like this:

Looks great! Did you get to choose the color. It is at least 2 years away, but I have already asked my Ortho for upper and lower bonded retainers. I do not want mess up my hard work by being lax with wearing retainers.

no, I didn't get to choose the color of the bonded retainer. My ortho always uses gold...don't know why.

My hawley, on the other hand, I got to choose the color of that.

Good luck to you and the 2 years will fly by!

Thanks for your concern! :biglaf:

Not so much as before. The novelty seems to have worn off....alas... I am in need of a new source of entertainment.

That is good news--if the novelty has worn off, you must really be getting used to it! Yay!
