NOVEMBER 9TH 2006

Well, I haven't posted here in ages, but I went in for a retainer check-up and 6-month cleaning today, so I thought I would fill everyone in!

Things have been going well with my 'new' set of teeth...I've gotten used to my retainer, and I actually feel funny now when I fall asleep without it! It has really taken care of my tooth-grinding at night--I never wake up with headaches anymore!

Today the ortho said that my teeth are looking great, and that my jaw muscles feel very relaxed (which is the purpose of my wacky looking retainer--see previous pages for pics of it). Oh, and I also had no cavities, yay! The ortho said that as long as I continue to brush and floss, I have a very low likelihood of tooth decay because my teeth are now in healthy positions.

So, to those of you out there just beginning--take it from a veteran--it will be worth it in the end!

Oh and as a funny side note--last month I swallowed my upper permanent bonded retainer! I was eating, and noticed that the backs of my top teeth felt funny, and it was gone! My ortho said it wouldn't hurt me though, which was nice to hear, and I got a new one bonded on the next day.

So, here are some 'progress' pics...I guess they are just to show that my teeth have remained pretty straight even 4 months post-braces! A few things have shifted here and there (I think my midline is now more off than it was when I first got the braces off)...but I expected at least a little bit of shifting. As long as I can keep my teeth in a reasonably straight position then I'm happy!

Looks like your smile (bite) got even better after your braces were removed. Splendid!

Well, it has been over a year and a half since I had my braces removed, so I thought I should post an update!

My teeth are still doing well, they are still straight, and I still wear my retainer (almost!) every night! I think my teeth have moved a little bit, but nothing extremely noticeable. I also still have my bonded upper and lower retainers, so I'm sure that those help.

Here is a pic of my teeth taken a couple of weeks ago:

Sorry for the image quality!

So for those of you who are just starting your braces journey (or feeling frustrated that your journey isn't ending soon enough!), don't worry, it will be over before you know it, and soon become part of your distant past! :D
