KIMMIE!!!!!! Headgear!!?? At least it's only for sleeping though! What a cheeky ortho trying to make it sound like you were going to get a pleasant surprise!!! (I hope he gives you something else to go with it like another goodie bag!!).
I'm glad that your teeth hitting is nothing to worry about! But I'm glad you can put your mind at ease now Keep well Kimmie and I think that headgear has improved over the years so hopefully it will be fairly comfy!!

@CC yes, I will be in headgear come next week. I am like what have I got myself into. I think I would rather have elastics than this headgear. I am going to hibernate at home with it on. LOL
@Gilly- I never thought my special gift would be headgear. I wonder how this is going to work out. I guess we will see on Jan 3. I will be posting pictures when I leave the ortho of me in the headgear.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday!! I'm enjoying mine at work.
Hi everyone,
Well here is a quick update of what has been going on with my teeth this past week. I have been have small amounts on pain in my bottom arch. To my surprise, my canines are moving backwards on both sides toward the extractions. I have starting to have small gaps everywhere on my bottom arch because things seem to be moving along. Guess after a whole month the powerchains are starting to do their job. I have an appointment this Thursday (Jan 3rd) so we will see what happens at this appointment. I am now on the move for thinking of what color I should get this time. Any ideas?!! One set of colors I was thinking was pink and black. We shall see!!!
Did the orthodontist tell you exactly why you would be using headgear? Is this something he discussed as a possibility for your treatment plan when you first started or was it a total surprise?

Hey Key,
The headgear was not a total surprise as it was in the original plan. I just didn't know it would come this soon in treatment. I can't believe I've been in braces for almost 6 months. He will be using the headgear to bring my uppers forward. I will know more later on today as I have an appointment this morning and will update in more details!!
So I had my first adjustment for 2013 today!! It went great. One thing that did not happen was the head gear!!! He decided we would wait on that and decided on putting wire ties on plus POWERCHAINS ON EVERY SINGLE TOOTH BUT THE 4 AT THE BOTTOM. All I can say is PAIN!! The ortho assistant told me I could feel free to call her every bad name if I wanted to bc she knew it will be lots of pain and pressure. She also said since I was old enough to go out and buy a bottle of wine to help with the pain. (I love my ortho and his whole staff) They also told me since I had chains on almost all of my teeth that they new I would be sad that I could not do my 2 colors I usually get. The plan is on the top to start closing up my molar exraction sites and on the bottom to start closing up extraction sites. On the lower arch my teeth are really on the move as you will be able to tell in the pictures that will follow. I have a follow up appointment in 2 weeks on Jan. 15th. He said with all these chains he likes to make sure everything is moving as planned. (I have this special feeling he will try to sneak the head gear in at this appointment) I also went from having a 5 link powerchain to a 4 link powerchain which is why I am in so much pain. For my lig color I chose light blue. Its crazy how things work because since leaving the ortho office 3 hours ago my teeth are no longer edge to edge like they were earlier. Well, I hope everyone else is doing well.

Wow, that was a strong power chain!!! I can understand why you have pain. The first thing I thought when I saw this was "wow, she is brave!" The second thing was "this is something my ortho wants to d but I never let him use power chains " lol you know me....
I wish I had your bravery.
I hope you won't feel too much pain tomorrow! love reading you blog even though I don't write much !
I hope the pain will be gone tomorrow to. It will be fish tonight for me!! I wasn't too brave today. As she was connecting the powerchains I almost jumped out that chair. On the right side at the bottom when I jumped it broke and she had to start all the way over. She was like I am so sorry!! I think a tear may have fell from my eye. She also told me it will get better with each visit with the power chains. I sure hope so because today sure was not a fun visit. I hope everything is going good for you!!!
Morning All,
Here is a mini update from my appointment yesterday. My mouth is still in pain to the point where I could not sleep last night. Luckily, I am off tonight. I woke up and took some pain medicine so hopefully that will kick in soon!! I couldn't even eat my fish and shrimp I made yesterday. I guess it is back to the old days of soft foods. These powerchains on all my teeth but 4 are no joke. It's mainly my upper arch where my molar extraction sites are in the progress of being closed. I wake up also to my bite being all off. Boy these power chains know they have some REAL POWER behind them. (I cant imagine having these and elastics at the same time) I know before I go in for my next adjustment to take some pain medicine. I've been drinking cold drinks to help and rinsing with warm salt water. It also was also so painful to brush and floss. Hopefully everyone else day is going well!!
Kimmie my poor fish eating friend!! (Why did I not receive a notification email when you posted!?? :/) I hope you're starting to feel a little better!!! Sounds like they're really getting some teeth moving for you! What a champ putting up with all that pain! Your teeth are looking gorgeous!
Hooray for a few extra weeks without headgear! It sounds like you have a really nice ortho (and staff) who really care about your pain levels Did you try some alcohol and was it helpful? lol!
Happy movement Kimmie!! It is so fantastic that we are almost 6 months in already!!

CC!!!
I am feeling better these days, but have to go through the pain all over next week. We shall see how that goes and if he magically remembers the headgear. Lol. I did not have the alcohol but will have it ready for next week all nice and cold. They told me probably for the next 2-3 adjustments I will really feel the pain. I promise it didn't hurt this much when I first got braces. They knew what they were talking about when they gave these things the name POWER CHAINS BECAUSE THEY HAVE POWER BEHIND THEM. I hope everything is going well with you my friend!!
Hi Everyone,
So today was another day to the orthodontist. It was bascially to see how my teeth are moving with the powerchains on. He said that everything seems to be moving well. It is not fun getting power chain put on. The pressure from those starts right away. This time I have a longer span before I return. My next appointment is Feb 7th. I have new gaps forming everywhere in my mouth in which you will be able to see in the pics that follow. I chose coral this time as my color!! I am LOVING IT. ITS SO VIBRANT and BRIGHT!!! Hope everyone else is progressing well!!!
Kimmie! Looking so good. Your teeth and smile are so pretty now. You are going to be stunning when done! I love the powerchain colors. I really hope my ortho has colors if/when it comes my time.
