You don't wanna work for tim horton's anyway. they don't even let you wear nail polish or earrings! That's so awesome that OSU is willing to help you out, but I hope you make it clear to your ortho that you know that you NEED retainers and that he's not fooling anybody telling you that you don't need them. He must think he's saving himself some money by lying to you like that. I can't believe they said that to you. Sheesh! D:

I really hope they just make your retainers and give them to you (which they SHOULD or they're jerks!) but it would be sooooo cool to have an ortho buddy!

I am still upset over this whole thing. I seen a picture the other day of me like laughing in action with my braces on, and it was the side with the missing canine and I got really bummed out. Other than that Im pretty okay with the smile I have to deal with for god knows how long until Im financially stable. I wish this didnt happen. In fact everything in my life is a mess right now.

I have a consult at Ohio State University for a possible retainers fitting, but I need to find a way to make $225 bucks before June 1st. Then at the end of June on the 28th, I get my braces removed, and the 30th for records. I hate this. So much.

As for progress, my bottom arch gap is gone, but the top gap is slowly closing. I doubt it will be closed by the end of June. But you never know. Heres some pictures from a few days ago. Sorry about the quality. Usually I take better pictures, but...Im just not excited about anything now.

I will miss my braces. A lot.

As for life, I think Im going to school at Ohio University at one of their branches (if I havent told you guys yet) or Everest Institute in Columbus, Ohio for Dental Assisting. Im a little jaded, and I will be very self conscious about going to school for Dental because look at my teeth. I mean before I had braces I was just someone with bad teeth, but with braces Im someone who will have a gorgeous smile, and now that theyre coming off after only two months ill be someone with an "okay gappy smile with a missing canine" not to mention I have my wisdoms still. Atleast with braces I was actually taking action.

everybody studying at dental/ortho school at OSU had braces. like- everybody. so don't feel bad about having retainers at OU or Everest when you're going for dental assisting. It's a great way to meet people that might brace you pro bono or at cost! You're gonna do great, just stay positive! And if you ever get feeling bummed about your smile, just print out my grotesque full-face before photo of Mr. Wonky and The Count. Cuz at least you don't look like Stephen Spielberg's JAWS when you smile :D (I saw pics of your big cheesy grin and you are gorgeous, canine or no. If you had NO teeth and a mullet you'd be gorgeous- that's how gorgeous you are!)

I know ill have a little more confidence in my smile, i know this, but I just really wanted to have the hollywood smile I deserve. Ill see how it pans out over the summer. Maybe Ill be braced by the fall again. Hopefully without spacers!

My main concerns are retainers, school, a job, car, moving out, wisdoms/canine, and just sorting out the mess I got myself into. Im becoming a person I hate.

I really really want this gap to close! It sure is taking its time. But I read retainers can actually close some small gaps so I WOULD benefit from retainers. I liked my Ortho until I relized he was money hungry.

So I was brushing my teeth after I got out of the shower and I did the electric toothbrush and then I got out my inbetween and started doing that in between the brackets and such and I noticed on my bottom arch something between the bracket well i thought it was a piece of food I ate earlier so I put it in between the bracket and whatever it was wouldnt move...and then I noticed blood and I freaked out. Its a piece of my gum, as in my gum tissue. Like its inflamed and bleeding, and i can literally move it off my teeth. Like slide it back and forth and I can see the tooth under it. Its hard to explain.

The last thing I need is gum trouble. Fml.
Heres some pictures. Im not sure if you can tell.

Its the bottom right lateral incisor or whatever.

See that giant blob of like red under the bracket? :/

Has this happened to anyone?

Couldn't you just stop seeing your orthodontist for now, but in the mean time leave your braces on. Don't get them removed. Keep looking for a job, and when you get one then continue seeing your orthodontist again...

Thats terrible for your teeth. It will literally destroy your teeth without adjustments. Its not healthy at all, and it could screw up your alignment even more if there are not adjustments monthly.

No, its not a bad thing at all. Just keep them thoroughly cleaned and you'll be fine. Keep on working on finding employment as quickly as possible.

There was actually a girl on here who had braces on for 6 years!! without any adjustments or seeing her ortho...

Braces can cause root resportion. I dont think I could keep my braces on. Ive been told its bad for your teeth, and I was advised to have them removed as well. I mean maybe it would work for another persons teeth, but I dont think I could do it to mine. Im also in power chains, sooo it wouldnt be the best idea. :/

Thanks for the input though. And trust me Ive been on the job hunt for over two months.

I am not talking about leaving them on for an extended period of time here. Just give it a few months, if you don't have a job by then, well then get them removed. But you definitely don't have to rush into getting them removed right away. Give yourself some time, this situation could have a happy ending to it.

when your teeth move a lot at once, the gum tissue between your teeth can bunch up and loosen from your teeth. I thought I had a piece of rice stuck between my upper canine and my first premolar (just under my archwire) for about a month, because everytime i moved my tongue there, that's exactly what it felt like. don't worry. just brush and floss/pick gently there and keep it clean. Mouthwash is a must. It will heal/shrink in no time.

Hiya Chelsea I'm Meredith and I'm also a college student preparing to be braced soon so I understand where you're coming from!!!

Just a word of advice: DO NOT go to Everest for dental assisting. They aren't an accredited school if you will and they say that they're courses are accredited courses and they're not. Plus, they kinda cheat you out of a lot of the information you should be getting. I used to work as a dental assistant for my dentist and we had lots of Everest Students come into the office for their externship and quite a few of them didn't know the difference between a tube head and a curing light. You could try to do what I did, I got on the job training at my dentist's office and went from there. I work as a temp for a dental assisting staffing company now and work at a childcare center as well.

ANYWHO (sorry if that above paragraph was so long winded)

I'm having to sacrifice a lot so that my braces can go on. Me and my darling fiance were supposed to go to Hershey this summer (actually in a month) and he decided that getting my braces was more important but he promised that we would go to Hershey later on in the year (gotta love him)!! But anyway, my prayers are with you as you try to find out what you need to do. If you need any help whatsoever or just want to talk just lemme know. I LOVE reading your story and I know I would be heartbroken if that had happend to me.
