Thank yo, KK. It certainly has. Actually I just realized that today marks my first year in the process: I got my very first spacers for the expander exactly a year ago today. Doesn't seem like that long ago

I cannot believe the difference in such a short period of time. It's amazing! I can't stop looking at your pictures. Getting more tempted to do it myself now. To save me looking back, how long do you expect to be braced for?
2005 Impacted canines resulting in twisted lateral incisor - advised: surgical removal of canines, followed by braces then 'pegging' of lateral incisor root - didn't proceed
2017 L canine erupted, bone loss around lateral incisor - advised: canine substitution by extraction of both lateral incisors, exposure of R canine, braces to position canines

EyeSpy, I have not asked my ortho the "how long" question, really. She is not the kind of doctor who likes to give estimations... The first time back in 1996(?), when I had all the preparations done but did not pursue with treatment, she said 2 - 3 years. The usual, I guess
Say goodbye to those twisted laterals
Bye bye to the twisted twins and welcome their new enhanced appearance! I'm so happy to still have them. When the canine surgery was planned, my ortho warned me of the risk of harming the laterals, but luckily they seem to be doing fine. Can't be grateful enough about that! Here's to my oral surgeon who is such a skillful guy!

That's a fantatic transformation, Joplin - Well done! You deserve to reap your rewards now, after the setbacks you've had. ;) I did try to envision what your smile would look like once your laterals were straightened, but the end result appears miles better upon completion :)

Joplin, it must be easier to smile these days. It's starting to look great! And in 3 months in braces. Very cool.

Update, adjustment 5:

No new wires, still stuck with the stupid w-arch. I'm so frustrated about it at times, because the saliva issue persists and it is a challenge when eating. Also it affects my speech, especially when I'm tired. I just started a portugese class and the w-arch certainly gives my pronounciation an interesting side kick :P
It's not nearly as bad as the expander was, of course, but a  nuisance anyway.

They only gave me new wire ties and a new powerchain. The next appointment is 6 weeks from today.

I've never heard of anyone having to wear a w-arch over a year from SARPE. Ortho says it's because of how those laterals were so badly positioned to begin with. She wants to play it safe until she can put on a thicker wire. Those laterals - or at least the left one - are still on the move so much so that she said it's not yet time to move up to any stronger forces.

Oh well, no-one said it was going to be all fun and games
