Choccy, sorry to hear about your tooth, did they think it was a past trauma that caused it and it was made worse by your treatment?

I must say though that your teeth are looking really fantastic, well done.

Hi Joney,

No, they thought that it must be a recent trama to the tooth but I can't remember anything significent happening to it. I haven't asked if it could be as a result of something that they have done wrong or as a result of the treatment. I hope my dentist can shed some light on it when I see him next. He should be able to restore the colour by having it root filled if it had indeed died.

Feeling really cross today. I should have had an adjustment this afternoon but its been cancelled because my ortho has the novovirus. I have a new appointment but its not till 28th April by which time it will have been 12 weeks since an adjustment.

I am down because these horrible powerchains across my top front teeth are so badly stained and I was so looking forward to having them all clean again. I don't want to smile because they look so disgusting.

Oh well. Here is a pic taken today, in black and white to hide the dirtyness and a few sparkles to make me feel better!

EDIT- last night while in bed I woke up and realised that I had bashed my "Dead?" front tooth with my lower teeth and I felt the pain through the nerve. So its not dead yet, but it got my thinking too, maybe that how it has been damaged as I have done this a couple of times during the day too? It like a reflex thing which I have no control over, no idea why it happens

Hi Denise,

Thanks for your reply, I'm okay really. I was very cross on the day because I really look forward to my appointments and getting the powerchain replaced was a top priority as I felt it looked awful. Now I am not so mad - just one of thoes things. I think I will see if there are other colour powerchains available next time though, I have been advised on colours which stain less although not sure if my ortho stocks them.

I will be back there at the end of April now and I go on holiday a month later and really want nice clean ones for then so I might have to see if they can see me again before I go if coloured ones aren't an option.

Still not sure whats going on with my "dead" tooth. It still looks the same - no worse and I am positive I can still feel through it okay. I will have to make a regular dentist appointment to get it checked out.

Otherwise everything is great! :)

Nothing much to report here, got an adjustment in 30 days, seems ages off :(

I keep having shooting pains through my "dead" tooth but I'm too embarrassed to go to the dentist becasue these powerchains are just vile looking so I'm going wait until after I get new ones.

Hi Melissa

Yeah, they look okay in B & W but awful in colour! I am so aware of them and am trying to avoid smiling :( It feels like they have been like this forever now, can't wait to get rid of them for good or at least change them for another colour that won't stain.

choccy,
see if your ortho will let you pop in and get them changed. i called mine today and they said it was no big deal to have your ligs changed early. they are even gonna teach me how to change my own at home. see if your ortho will do that too!! :D
let me know what they say!

Hi Melissa, the trouble is that my ortho is not that local and I have no car during the day, it would take hours to get to on bus/train :(

Glad you are getting yours sorted though, I have never heard of anyone changing them themselves but it sounds good! When I had all ligs I had gray and pink (not together) which didn't stain at all :)

Whooohoooo!!

I have got rid of that horrible looking powerchain!

Beacuse my orthos din't have any decreet coloured powerchains, I had a choice of three "vibrant" colours, red, purple and turquoise. I went for turquoise in the end :) and had ligs to match on my other brackets. Hopefully it shouldn't stain if I so much as look at a curry!

Heres how it looks

Image

Other news, well I am now sporting a new spring connecting my microscrew to my back molar to bring it forward quicker, I didn't think it looked any further forward than 12 weeks ago but there was excess wire at the end which indicated that it had :) This should help move it faster though.

The elastic on my right side which was correcting my midline has overdone the job, its now overcorrected - probably as a result of being on unchecked for 12 weeks! I realised this myself a few weeks ago and wondered if I should stop wearing the elastic but didn't. So now I have an elastic on the other side to shift it back again!

Next appointment I am having some "slenderising" done. I asked my consultant about this today as he mentioned it before. So my front teeth which are slightly flared and abit big are going to be reshaped slightly. I can't wait as I have always thought they were on the large size so am jumping at the chance to have somthing done. When I was a girl I went to my dad's shed and used a chisel to file them done (didn't work - I think I lost my nerve!) so NO MORE CHISELS!

The tooth that I though was dead is the same as before - no worse. Ortho says this is a good sign :)

Thats about it I think.

The last few weeks have been a little painfull.

Firstly the wire on my top left seems to long and has been digging into my cheek. My new elastic on that side has also been rubbing and I have now stopped wearing it as my mid line now looks okay to me, I don't want to over correct it again and have to have one on the other side again!

Plus I've had some other dental pain that I am sure is brace-related on my left side, it starts on my bottom teeth and progresses down my neck, up to my ear and head. It comes and goes lasting just a few minutes or an hour at a time and can be aggrevated by hot/cold food/drinks but sometimes it just comes out of the blue :( Painkillers don't seem to have any effect.

I am off to Spain next week so I hope it will okay.............

On the plus side, turquoise powerchains were the right move, noticable they are but in a nice way, although the colour has changed a tiny bit they are still cool.

I am also ooking forward to being slenderisd at my next ortho appointment though :) I wonder if they can slenderise my hips while they're at it? :)

Bye for now

Sarah xx
