Katie's Ortho Adventure-almost 10 mos! new pics pg 8

Hey metalmouth, congrats on getting braced. I am bummed for you about the chipped tooth. I had concerns about that when I got my braces on and the ortho staff was pretty adamant about how the bracket will break off before any damage comes to your tooth - BS. I've experienced some minor chipping on the bottom of my teeth since my turbos were taken off and I am not happy about it. It sucks. Hopefully you've got plenty of tooth to file down and it'll only make your teeth look nicer. Let us know how it went.
Stopped by and found your story. So sorry for the chipped tooth. Its a good thing the ortho is getting right to it instead of waiting for further damage. The night protector will get you ready for retainers when this is all done. I suggest you visit this list's sponsor, dentakit.co, and order some retainerbrite. Great product to keep your guard clean and not yucky. I've wore a night guard know for about three years and find it hard to sleep without one.
Good luck and have fun with this journey.

As of an hour ago, turbos are on and I am LISPING like Cindy Brady!!!!!!!
They feel really weird in my mouth. It's odd not being able to close my bite the way I am used to. I can see how people tend to dislike these, all of that being said........I really am not bothered by anything but the way they are affecting my speech.
After my appt I went thru the drive thru to order coffee and I felt like the girl was laughing at me when I pulled up to pay
I am sure it will get better once my mouth is more used to these foreign objects hanging around (literally, lol).
My front tooth was filed a bit, but he said he wanted to wait until braces came off to really "even things out". Turbos will be on for six months.
I also got my mouth guard as well. A pretty uneventful appt. overall.
ps.
Jen and Becca- my turbos are a lovely shade of royal blue, lol.

Royal Blue?!?!? Oh, those I've GOT to see
Can you post a pic? Did your otho ask you your colour preference or just give you that colour? Now I'm curious to find out what colour I'll have...lol!
Glad to hear your appt. went well. Is the chip in your tooth still there after the filing? Ah, yes, the lisping! I've heard it's no fun and I'll get to experience it soon enough but I've heard it gets easier. Hang in there!!

^ I knew you'd get a kick out of the color
No, I did NOT choose the lovely blue, doc explained he uses them so he can tell what is turbo and what is actual tooth when it's time to remove them. I dunno.......
Good part is, they are up high enough that you can't tell at all they are there. Bad part is, maybe if you could tell they were there you wouldn't look at me like I had three heads as I was lisping/spraying/talking, LOL.
Did your sis say the lisping got better? I am NOT exaggerating Jen, it's BAD.

Hi Katie,
How are you feeling now? Yep, I sure was shocked when you said BLUE!! I guess it makes sense though...hope I get colourful ones!!
My sister did eventually get used to them but never enjoyed them at all. She had them on for about 3-4 months(hers were metal)and she had to put wax on them. She said they started to cut up her tongue...yuck! It's funny, I don't really remember her talking with a lisp but she lives 3 hours from me so I didn't see her very often. Oh, the joys of having beautiful teeth!!
And, BTW, you're very last comment I soooo did not want to hear!!
LOL!! I guess we'll call you earphone thingy from now on...sound good?

Hey. I just read your story. Welcome to AW and congrats on getting braces. It gets better, promise. After about a week, my braces didn't feel like they were sticking out a mile. I have all metal braces.
Glad to read that the turbos are helping. Best of luck with your treatment!

Katie,
Been trying to catch up with all my brace buddies, I can't believe that happend to you. What a bummer! I've had a couple of emergency visits to the ortho b/c my upper teeth were knocking into my lower brackets. My latest was last Wednesday and one of my upper centrals centrals was knocking into my lower bracket ( I also chipped that tooth back in October b/c my TMJ and bite were off ) so I ended up going in and I have lower bumpers on both of my lower centrals as well as one on my lower canine from a few weeks before. My fear is getting turbos, especially since I work in outside sales and talk alot! I talk alot period, whether I was in sales or not!!!
How are you doing with the turbos? Maybe you won't have to wear them the full amount of time and your ortho will take them off earlier. I can't their blue, wow!
Feel good and catch up with you soon!!!

^ thanks buddy.
Sorry to hear of your emergency visits also! The bumping of the brackets is like scratching on chalkboard isn't it?
The turbos are tearing up my tongue. I too am a chit-chatter and just talking scratches the heck out of my tongue. I went to Walgreens and got some Rincinol yesterday and have been using that.
My husband is getting a HUGE kick out of my new speech impediment
I already told him paybacks are a mo-fo!!!!!
Thanks for checking on me B! Going to check out your update next

I was cracking up reading through this.. I had to start at the beginning and work my way through to figure out what the "turbos" were. haha I've got molar buildups. they're on the bottom but keep my teeth from touching. I called them my towers of tongue torture because they tore my tongue up at first. I've had mine since JULY!!!!! I honestly don't notice them anymore. The lisp will go away and you'll figure out how to talk around them. Give it a week or two.
Look forward to hearing more! Have a great day!

Your stories are great!! I’m glad you are sharing your experience ‘cause there are some things I wished I knew too before my initial appointment. My ortho said he wanted to wait on my lowers because of my overbite might get in the way. I didn’t know what he meant, but know it makes sense. If I have to get turbos, I’ll let you know what color they give me.
Good luck on your progress!

May Day May Day we have a Turbo MIA...............
Last night hubster and I went out for dinner and met friends for drinks- Somewhere between then and now I am down a turbo.
It seems like I grind my teeth a lot more (or so my husband tells me) when I've had a few drinks, so I'm guessing that is what happened. I know I didn't lose it during dinner because I am still eating soft foods since my teeth don't touch to chew.
I know I read a few of you have only one turbo to start, so I am wondering if it's even worth replacing? It sure feels weird with just the one, and I still have some glue on the tooth that the missing guy came off of. It's really strange to think I grind hard enough to knock one of these bad boys off! Especially because like I said, my teeth don't even touch anymore so I must just be grinding the front
I guess it's time to get the mouth guard that they forgot about last time huh??? I won't be able to even get in to see him until Tuesday.....
I am also down about 7-10 pounds in the last two weeks with the soft foods diet. I am already pretty small to start, so family and friends are starting to get on me about my weight loss, which is aggravating because it's not like I am dieting. I have tried to eat soft meat/chicken, but it's still feels like I am swallowing it down whole! I am going to buy some ensure tomorrow so my husband will get off my back.
I'm tellin ya, it's always something!

Oh, dear! An MIA turbo!
That is so NOT good! But SO funny!!
That is so weird that you didn't notice it when it happened.
Sorry to hear about your weightloss. I lost 8 in 12 days but I have a lttle I can lose so I'm happy about my loss. (I would be thrilled to lose another 10!) However, 9 days of eating out put 3 back on but I'll start shedding it again tomorrow when I get braced, I'm sure!

Hi Katie,
That STINKS!!!! I can't believe that happend to you. Nothing like a turbo "MIA"!!!
Does your ortho have hours tomorrow? At least give them a call and see what they say. I am a grinder/clencher too, but have been very conscious of it since I've gotten my braces on. My teeth have shifted a ton though and my upper teeth have been knocking into the lower brackets and I've ended up with three dreaded bumpers.
Good luck tomorrow!
