Duncan5 wrote:Hi Anna, hope your appointment goes well. I'd add a small bottle of water (maybe one of the ones runners favour as they're flatter and seal well) as I found I was really thirsty for the first week or so after getting the brackets fitted; sipping water every 15 minutes made a big difference in keeping my cheeks moist so they didn't get so prickled. And chap-stick (I now have one in my desk at home, at work, in various jacket pockets where I've forgotten to pick one up and ended up buying more).

Don't be afraid to use the wax if stuff rubs. The little rectangular boxes it comes in are ideal for keeping elastics in if you need to take them out for eating away from home.

Yea water is a great idea thanks!!! And yea Chapstick is a good idea too, my lips are protruding out more than normal and that's making them extra dry! Haha
As far as wax I went a couple hours without it and gave in and there's about 5 spots that need it right now. Thanks for all your tips!! These things hurt already and it's only been a few hours! It's a very strang feeling though, I can feel a lot of pressure and its so annoying!!! Haha

hi guys! so its official i am a brace face! i got fully braced today! it only took a little over an hour and its was a pretty simple process, i was never really in pain and my ortho is super nice and gentle and the assistant is really nice too, im so glad i chose this office!

before i started they explained to me what they would be doing and they showed me the braces, they were on a platter type thing and it was specifically made for me, with special pieces because of my crowding and what not, i found out that they used a brand called innovation, they are a self ligating bracket and are awesome! after my appt i didnt have any pain at all really except a wire that is kinda poking my cheek, they cant cut it because when my teeth move, my back molars need wire to move back to she bent inward for now, but i am gonna go back to see if she can bend it more.

i have about 5 spots in my mouth that i need wax, and its super easy to apply and makes it feel so much better. my teeth started hurting really bad after about 5 hours of them being on and ibuprofen wasnt helping so i just took a nap cause i was super tired and when i woke up a little bit ago the pain has subsided alot, i dont know if the pain killers kicked in or the pain is really going away, lol. the pain is so weird though! its a pain ive never felt before and the braces just feel annoying! but i know its what its supposed to be doing and its not a big deal.

eating is def a challenge because i have a deep bite my top teeth were hitting the bottom brackets, so they put these little rubber tings on top on the bottom brackets so it doesnt hurt when i bite down, but now my back teeth dont touch so chewing is almost impossible unless i give myself an underbit and chew that way, it looks pretty funny. eating at work is going to be quite a challenge!
i had soup with crackers for lunch today and an odwalla as well and for dinner i had 2 eggs and toast. the water pik is awesome though cause it got all the bread and stuff out of the braces! i havent brushed my teeth yet i think it will prob hurt!

well i guess thats it for now...its def a weird feeling having these in! it feels super weird!
thanks for all the support guys!

You must be so excited!!! Keep yourself busy so the time doesn't drag on!!!
And the pain was only bad after about 5 hours in, and now it doesn't really hurt at all it's just an annoying feeling! The only problems I'm having are the sores I'm getting in my mouth :( wax helps but there's a spot in the back that the wax doesn't stick so it kinda sucks. Ibuprofen is all I'm taking and it works great. Eating is a hassle I only ate 2 meals today because its just a pain, taking my wax off, trying to eat, brushing flossing and reapplying wax lol it's a process! But I have a feeling the sores are going to go away pretty soon and I won't have to use wax anymore. I love them so far though, the pressure feeling lets me know they are working!

Hi Anna, glad your fitting went smoothly. Your brackets are really small and neat, though I'm sure they feel anything but! Cleaning gets quicker with practice, honest. D.

Thank you so much! I am so happy! The pain doesn't bother me, it excites me! I know they're working! No one really has much to say to me except excitement for me. And I think the worse pain has come and gone. And yea I'm eating some ginger snaps right now! I'm just sucking on them but they're delicious. Lol

Haha yea of course!!!!! Congrats! You must be so excited!!!! I'm already starting to see differences in my teeth it's crazy! Ibuprofen is working for me, I've never really had too much pain, at this point with me it's just all the cuts in my mouth that are happening from talking and eating, and everyone at work has been really supportive and stuff so that's cool! I can't wait to start seeing more results!

hi guys! so im about 11 days in now i can say that my teeth are def shifting!!! i cant say they're getting straight they're just moving, lol. as you guys might have seen in my pic those bumpers that the ortho put on my two front bottom teeth are now of no use! my front top teeth are moving left and are now hitting the bottom tooth next to the tooth with a bumper on it. lol i might have to go in for a pop in visit to have them put another bumper on that tooth. its crazy though!! my teeth also feel very loose, i can actually wiggle them! and i dont now if im just getting a little more stressed but I'm clenching my jaw again! i wasnt clenching it all last week so i dont know what thats all about

as far as eating its still the same, my back teeth still dont touch and i dont think they will for quite a while so ill just have to get used to it! ive found that eating big bites helps chewing and i can sometimes manage to chew with my front teeth and canines but its not easy. lol but foods ive been loving is oatmeal for breakfast, mashed potatoes, gnocci (my fave) cookies (ones that turn mushy when you suck on them long enough...lol) soft bread(i made soft pretzels a couple days ago and YUM!) mac n cheese, I'm pretty much am only eating soft foods at this point, i can eat chicken and what not, i went out to dinner for the first time and that was interesting, lol i took forever to eat and had food stuck everywhere! we went to chinese so everything was pretty much soft. but so delicious! i went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth, no one came in but i wouldnt really mind either way, im not embarrassed of my braces what so ever!

work is still fine, im working more this week and all my customers are noticing and being really supportive and giving me tips for them and stuff, and having conversation with a few of my clients that have them currently!

oh and i almost forgot! about the actual pain, i do not have any pain what so ever, i dont know if its because i have the selfligating braces or if the wire they put on me is a very small thin wire but no pain at all, not even soreness! and i can brush my teeth with my electric toothbrush again so any soreness i had is gone. so thats good, i dont go back for almost 2 months so ill check back in in a couple more weeks!!

and i am going to be posting my journey on youtube as well! i will hopefull be able to film my first video some time this week, to be able to show you guys more in depth and talk more and post my progress. this site is awesome but having video will be good too. my username on youtube is annashefia as well, its actually a beauty channel but i will be mixing the two.

PS is anyone else in the states hating this daylight savings time change? it is impossible for me to wake up in the mornings! ugh!
