Oh yeah, I bit my first bracket off last weekend! What a terrible sound to wake up to  I am still clenching/grinding my teeth in my sleep. My 1st molars on top had been making contact with my bottom molar brackets, mostly on my left side. At about 6am Saturday morning, I woke up to a terrible crunch/pop/grind sound/feeling of my bracket being bit off. It didn't hurt at least. I had to wait until Monday to get it put back on. I was kinda ticked, because when I first got them on, I told the assistant (the ortho had run off by then) that my molars were biting into the brackets, and she said, "Oh, it should get sorted out when they start to straighten." :| Seriously?? Whatever... wasn't going to argue. Then when I went in, nobody even asked what happened, and when I tried to tell the assistant she didn't seem interested. The ortho I saw (a different guy than who put them on) just said, since that tooth has a filling on the outside that the bracket wouldn't stick to it as well. I couldn't respond because, of course, his hands were in my mouth. Then he ran off to someone else. Nobody ever asks me, "Do you have any questions?" and I am really regretting going to this place :x I have not gotten to speak ONE word to an ortho because they are always running off to the next person before I am able to talk again. UGH... It just makes me mad because I know they assume I was eating something I shouldn't have been which popped it off, but no! It was not my fault! :-+

Anywho... I now have a super wiggly tooth (must mean they are moving! ...right??). It is my first premolar on my bottom left side. My top teeth knock into it, go figure, and I can see it move when I bite down. Can't wait to bite that bracket off too! But it is freaky because it wiggles back and forth like it's loose. Not a fan!!!!!!!
I had my top braces on about 2 weeks ago and bit off a bracket (right molar) the 3rd night after being braced lol, I had to wait 3 whole days before they reattached it, teeth have moved along slightly since so I can no longer bite the same bracket off but I know how frustating it is

I grind in my sleep as well so am not looking forward to having my bottom row on as the ortho might decide to put in stoppers to prevent my top and bottom rows from meeting (!) @#$%%# lol

Agreed Aspiro!! I figured they would do molar mounds or bumpers or something to keep me from chomping on my lower brackets, but nope, nothing. Thankfully I haven't had that problem since they reattached the bracket. Although now I am biting down on my lower 2nd premolar, just next to the one I bit off. Weird thing is though, when I bite it, my whole tooth moves downward. And I can wiggle the tooth back and forth a lot! Really creeps me out. I just hope I'm not damaging the tooth by constantly moving it up and down every time I bite.

So I am officially 1 month in as of yesterday! My first appointment will be one week from Friday. I feel like time has gone by pretty fast so far! I think at my next appointment I will be having to schedule my extractions. They were supposed to tell me before now when I should get my top 2nd molars pulled but I haven't heard anything. Part of me wants my top teeth to straighten out to see how bad my overbite really will be once my 2 central incisors flare back out to where they are supposed to be. But I should trust my ortho.

I hope to be adding some more pictures soon! My two top front teeth are really sore today, they have the farthest to move. I can't wait for them to straighten out!!!!! I keep having dreams about elastics, as I know they are somewhere in my future treatment. I just hope they aren't as difficult to deal with as they are in my dreams! Always breaking and being the wrong size lol last night I dreamt I forgot to take them out while I ate and they were all chewed up and stuck in my food and it was just gross... Anyway, super excited for my first adjustment!

Just a quick little update. I can finally fit my proxabrush under the wires of my lateral incisors!! That's a first!! :D Before, my two front teeth were too inverted causing the wires to go really far back and sat right against the tooth. My two front teeth must be moving upwards, relieving the force on those wires. YAY!!

I had my first adjustment on Friday! (6 weeks in) I was very pleased with the visit. I was able to talk to my ortho this time! It was actually very slow which I thought was weird, since it was a 4:15 appt on a Friday. Figured lots of kids would be there, but nope. So I am now ready to get my top 2nd upper premolars taken out. I will have to post a pic of my overbite now. It has gotten much bigger since my top central incisors have been straightening out. I can stick my tongue out between my teeth while biting all the way down. We are extracting the premolars so that my top teeth can be pulled back to help close the overbite, since elastics alone couldn't fix that big of a gap. I was also told I will be getting TADs at my next appointment! Yikes!

So, for my adjustment... they kept the top wire the same, just got the ends clipped. I was a little bummed but also a little relieved because they are still very sensitive. So the wire is definitely still doing some work. On my bottoms, I got an 18 square wire!! Crazy! They are almost straightened out already, so it's not too surprising. I just didn't expect to get such a heavy wire at my first adjustment! I also got bumpers on my lower 1st and 2nd premolars on the bottom. I have been biting down on the brackets of my 2nd premolars so this is supposed to be more comfortable? I actually like them. I feel like they have been helping with my teeth grinding at night.

So that's that. I will probably wait to post new pictures until 5/06 because that will be the 2 month mark. I will keep you all updated on how my extractions go too! Until next time... :-88

Update on my bumpers...

My top teeth have been biting down onto my lower 5's, causing them to push down into my gums. At my last ortho appt I talked to them about this and my ortho told the assistant to put bumbers on to help "make things more comfortable." I could have sworn he told her to put bumpers on 4 and 6, but she put bumpers on 4 & 5. I didn't really think that made any sense because it was just causing me to put pressure on those teeth even sooner?? It was comfortable though. I welcome any addition to my gear that is soft and squishy ;) lol

So today (I can neither confirm nor deny that I was eating popcorn) the bumper from one of my 4's came off. I noticed that it was just like a ligature, a round elastic thing but with a squishy pad on top. So... I decided to move my bumpers to see how it felt. With some help of a toothpick, I put the bumper back on my four, then took the other 2 bumpers off of the 5's and put them on the 6's. Viola!
I can now bite down without hitting the 5's! Yay! My bite feels pretty weird now though... If it continues to bother me, I will just take all of the bumpers out. They already said at my appt that if I didn't like them she would take them right back out for me. So it should be fine either way.

P.S. If you have bumpers, I would not recommend moving them around if you don't have to. It was not easy to get them back on!

Crazy braces dream!! ***Warning, it's gross!***

Last night I dreamt that my whole bottom row of braces were just gone. I was freaking out, and in my dream I remember thinking, "I really hope this is a dream!" While I was inspecting my bottom teeth, one of my premolars felt super loose. I went to touch it and my tooth came out! (It looked more like a crown, as in it was just the top part with no root). (I also remember thinking, "if my braces were on the tooth couldn't have fallen out!) So I was looking at the tooth and inspecting it to see if there were any cavities. Upon first inspection, it seemed fine. Then I noticed a black spot. As I looked at it, all of a sudden, it was like I was looking at my tooth really close up so my tooth appeared to be the size of a football. The black spot grew bigger and bigger! I was looking in the decayed part (now my tooth appeared translucent) and I saw string looking things inside of it. Like plant roots. Then they started moving! They were worms! Then I realized there was a ocean by the decayed hole that was stuck in my tooth like amber sap, and had layed eggs, which somehow produced wiggly white worms. I remember thinking... "How did a ocean get in my tooth?"

And abruptly, the dream ended...

I remember being relieved when I woke up that, whew! It was just a dream...

I was too excited to wait until Month 2! Here are some progress pics!

You can see how bad my overbite is now, and you can tell how much worse it will be once everything has straightened out!

Thanks everyone!! I am super excited to have progress like this! The first 2 weeks were very slow, then things really started picking up! I feel like drinking a lot of water is helping everything straighten out much quicker. Maybe? Just a hypothesis... It makes sense to me, but who knows. I haven't been able to find any research on it. Regardless, I am very happy!

OH, I didn't realize I hadn't posted this picture before... This shows my overbite. Once my teeth are straightened I imagine it still take a long time in braces to fix my bite. We will see!

Also, linking a pic of my bumpers just in case anyone is curious :)
