You may not need them until the very last leg of your treatment. If you don't get them at all, then you should be really happy!

Cleaning 1st Time in 2 Years

#353 Post by chillin-in-grilz »

Having a cleaning done on Feb 6th for the first time since all my teeth that was pulled out 2 years ago. I felt that I needed to get rid of the plaque and crap and cavities if there is any fixed before all my gaps are closed. Where it was so squished because of crowding of lower teeth, 2 teeth are not very good looking on the side of them, so I waned it to get the crap removed and filled.

1 question: Do they take out the archwire?

Hey chillin' - congrats on one year down    !!

As for your cleaning question, they do not remove the archwire, they clean around it. You'll feel great when its all over with!

P.S. Don't fear elastics! They lead to some great changes in your bite!

I went for my dentist appointment today, was it ever shocking news. Well its been 2 yeras since I been to the dentist. Shamefully yes. I didnt think you could go to a dentist with braces on, I have no idea what so ever why I thought this.

So they took some xrays, and duu duh duh, just as I suspected, I had for 3 years could never eat any sweets on my left side, it hurts like a huge tooth ache! Which basically is becuase I ...have....4 cavities, shamefully so. Plus other places can/r remember, al lI know I saw like white spots on the xrayswhich means cavities.

Plus i think I have other cavities, I brush night and day with sensidine, obviously not enough since I have an infection in my gums which I assume gingivitus because my gums bleed so that was a no brainer.

So as a result, I didnt get any cleaning done like afloride and stuff, the hygenist just used a pick like tool and picked out stuff between my teeth and used some tool that made noise, dunno what it is.

So she reconmended that I get a the "Oral B Vitality Precision Brush with a tooth paste called "Prevident 5000 Plus, flavor fruitastic or mint, I chose fruitastic, whic was 13 something dollars Canadian. The tooth brush was around 25 bucks, which is not bad. For a rechargeable electric toothbrush.

So I booked an appointment 6 weeks from now, like a check up to see if my gums and teeth are better with the new toothpaste and brush. Plus I got to bring the paste and brush so she can see if Im using it properly.

After that I have to book with the ortho and dentist for the same day, cuz inordee for the sentist to clean my teeth and fill my cavities I need the wires out of my braces. Since you cant have the wires off for long I have to book the appointments on the same day back to back.

So pretty much I should of went to the dentist every 3 months but I didnt. And they said I caught these problems just in time if not I would of had huge cavities, severe gingitus and possibly restarting with the braces which I dont see how that works cuz my teeth will not go crooked again just cuz my gums are bad and I have cavities but anyways.

This is alot of typing I ever did lol, but THAT is my current situation.

all i can say is: damn!

lucky you caught it before it was way too late though!

well this is enough inspiration for me to keep up regular dentist visits! sheesh!!

i'm sure everything will be fine once your teeth have been properly cleaned and all that. i had 2 cavities by the time i was 17 but my teeth are still fairly healthy... dentist always used to have a go at me not flossing....

oh well, i go in this afternoon for my first adjustment, i'm hoping my ortho won't say i've been brushing my teeth badly or wrong!

best of luck with your appointments, and don't worry, your teeth still look amazing in shape!!
