Ken-

I had an adjustment done today, 6weeks post TPA......he said my canines are moving nicely. I asked if he could remove it at my next appt (6weeks)--for 12weeks total.....first he said no, maybe 6more weeks, then after a lot of hemming and hawing.......he said yes, he could take it out next appt....but (there's alwasy a but)....I am going to need 4 spaces, then 1 week later another set of molar bands (for my very last molars) :( I don't know why, but I was glad that the TPA should only be in for about 3months total....Hoping to be surgery ready May/June----but maybe not until Aug (I really want to do the surgery while school is still in session   )

keep me updated Ken!!

Happy new year

#348 Post by cmone »

Hi Ken, I just wanted to say happy new year to you. You are always so helpful and encouraging to everyone and I hope the new year sends good karma your way. I've just stopped smoking for about a month, I feel your pain about not being able to stop. My hygienist told me if I didn't I would never get my gums back on track. I took Chantix on & off for the past couple of years (it really works but you have to be consistent). Anyway, I finally kicked it hopefully. I think I'm finished this time because when I'm having a ocean or three  I'm not dying for a cigarette. Anyway good luck to you on the rest of your journey and I, too, like your Xmas ligs.

Hi Ken :-1

Thank you for posting on my story and for your words of encouragement

I have followed your story over the last few months, you've certainly had a complicated journey...I do feel for you, having to wait in a holding pattern before you can get going again!!

How is it going with the gums? This is something (as an older brace wearer) that I have concerns about myself.

Good look with the rest of your journey...hope it gets going again for you soon

Hey Ken :D Just thought I'd drop by to see one of the more prolific (& oldest) contributors on this site. I've come upon your posts frequently and wanted to wish you well. I'm starting the braces journey again this week at 53. My decision to do this was greatly enhanced by reading all the great stories & posts on the forums here. I have to comment...you must be a patient guy to go through this 3 times!

...and same as Lynne, I was also curious as an older braces wearer about the impact of braces and perio health. I've finally got a serious oral hygiene program going.

Hey Ken :D

Thanks for visiting my story, and for filling me in on your progress. You have gone through a lot, my friend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't encounter any perio problems during treatment.

You asked if I had any interest in cars. Well, I'm not what you would call a "gearhead", but I certainly appreciate nice vehicles. Your's look cool 8) .
I operate a sign & graphics shop, and do a lot of vehicle lettering - mostly commercial. Once and a while I get a fun pinstriping job to do on some really nice car or truck.

Hey Ken- hoping all in well in Pens country!!

Red Wings are less than desireable this year, but we are in Vancouver, and the Canucks are doing pretty well!! Got some tickets to Vancouver 2010 olympics (6 events total!) And we did manage to get a men's preliminary hockey game--Sweden Vs. Germany......those sweds will be pretty good to watch I imagine!! My boys are way excited for that!!

Wanted to let you know I got 1/2 of my TPA removed yesterday--apparently, I have a Nance TPA, of which the Nance part was more anterior on the roof of my mouth and the TPA part is the wire more posterior......I read my chart and it said "remove Nance", I thought the whole thing was coming out, who knew--he only took out the front part, and left the wire in the back  Although, I was totally used to it, it was a relief to feel the roof of my mouth again!! and the back wire is not as annoying as the front acrylic piece on the roof of my mouth!! He said he still needs an anchor point to pull my front teeth in....but not for another 6 weeks

it's always a waiting game!! Any news on what comes next for you, when you'll get your TPA?? hoping all is well !!

Hi Ken,

I've been out for a while and I just got caught up on your story. This is no short journey for you, is it? Mine has been extended too, so I guess we just have to be patient. It will be worth it in the end when we get excellent results!

Good luck on your surgery next week!

Hey Ken, just stopping by to say that I hope your surgery went well & to wish you a speedy recovery. (do you do that when people have dental surgery?) Surgery is surgery to me so anyway, hope you're doing well!

Hi Ken,

I'm glad to hear that everything went well (and you didn't lose any more teeth!). What is it about osseous surgery and losing teeth? Maybe you and I are the exception in that regard.

I hope you can get your braces journey back on track now!
