Aww no :( Do try to remember that your face chanages as you get older and if she'd had her first round of orthodontics done at her age, maybe they wouldn't have pulled her teeth in the first place. I know it's REALLY hard sometimes but try and trust your orthodontist and that he/she knows what they're doing (I know that's easier said than done some days-I keep glaring at that weird wonky molar of mine and reading all about how crummy ceramic braces are compared to metals etc etc and thinking "what have I done?!?!!?").

Orthodontics have come a LONG way in the last 10 years even my ortho said and things that are done now are very different to how they were done even only 10 years ago. ((Hugs)).

I know, thank you for the reassurance. I do trust my orthodontist but then I always just get that bit scared! He didn’t talk to me about my profile or face, and didn’t mention anything about facial changes. I didn’t get a side profile xray either and I am just a bit worried! I guess I could request to get one done? :? I am planning on talking more about what he has planned for my treatment so that I know what is going on, cos he kinda explained it but at the same time as usual walked out feeling rather over whelmed by it all! So i will ask again lol. When I did mention about how people have regretted extractions he got all defensive and said that underlying complications must of taken place or something. I am sure I will be fine, but I have those days where one minute I feel great and excited, the next I am freaking out thinking oh god! But i guess that is all of the process! I remember when I was younger at high school and my friend had braces and I had NO IDEA how big of a thing it really is, I didn’t realise all the things involved in it all. I guess being a naive child with braces would be a good thing lol. But us adults, we google it all HAHA.

Thanks hun, you have made me feel better and I know I have posted on my blog about 3 times re facial changes etc lol. I am sure I will be fine. I hope your back is feeling better now!

I think the problem is too is that anyone who's happy with the result sort of goes "oh it'll be worth it when they're off" and that ends te conversation, but people who aren't happy go on and on and on about it (much like me being unhappy about my braces and banging on so much in my thread about every little thing :P). It gets in your head :(

I've read on the internets about people who didn't have extractions but said that their face shape got hollow and I must admit that the bottom of my face has changed a little, my Mum thought I'd lost weight, but I hadn't, it was just my teeth moving, but it doesn't look bad or anything and it's not something that's hugely noticable. My husband didn't notice at all and it seems to depend on the day too as to how noticable it is. Even if your face shape does change slightly, it likely won't be in a bad way (I'm thinking that while I had no extractions, I'm missing so many teeth that I might as well have had a whole bunch of them so I guess I'd be looking at similar problems).

It's possible too that the people *did* have underlying complications like your ortho said but they just haven't mentioned them (or their ortho didn't mention anything to them).

And lol, yes, google really is a double edged sword!

I know there are so many bad stories out there! I just have to trust that it will be ok!

I have had people ask me if I have lots weight as well. I haven't but they said they could see it in my face. I automatically thought because i had those teeth out my cheeks have sunk in a bit, not like heaps, but kinda nicely to give me some cheek bones lol! so maybe it wont be to bad :)

I just put some pics up of my movements. I am pretty excited!! :) :)

Looking good rhibee83! Isn't it amazing how much change can take place in a short time?

We are about 3 days apart in our Brace dates- guess that kinda makes us braces buddies :D

I will be posting pics soon of my changes as well ( I like the way you presented your pics)

Am I not a kid? I google everything before I get them, oh no I'm aging faster than my peers... I extracted my first pre-molars in all four quadrants, and I trust my ortho because I have an overjet and a very full profile and I saw somewhere advertising for Damon brackets and they showed a case similar to mine and they commented that extractions in that particular case was necessary, and a huge sigh of relief came over me. But anyway, my ortho did point out to my that my profile would change and my bottom jaw would be more prominent than it was already because of my protrusion :)

Anyway, trust your ortho! I've had many friends who didn't have a side x-ray, don't worry too much about it :)

Rhibee, I agree with Tobilei. You've got to trust your ortho. And, you'd probably be better off if you stopped surfing the net. You know, I've looked at the final pictures of some people who did not have extractions and thought that I certainly would not be happy with those results. They still have an overjet and to me look like they need braces. If they're happy with that look, that's fine with me. I'm just saying that I would no be.

To allay some of your fears, I suggest you talk to your ortho about your concerns. By the way, I think you mentioned the Damon site. You do know that there's little truth in advertising and people need to ignore all the hype.

It's important to understand that there's a finite amount of space in one's arch and a certain amount of space that one's teeth take up. In most adults expansion methods other than surgery are not a good option if it means one's teeth will not be properly anchored to the bone. So that means either extraction or IPR in some cases. If you have a good ortho he/she will do careful and exact measurements to determine the space needed and will carefully examine the x-rays to determine if there are bone loss concerns.

Meanwhile, it seems like you are enjoying fantastic progress and I predict you will be extremely happy with the results. Stop worrying about all the things that could possibly go wrong and rejoice in your progress and the fact that you had the courage to do this for yourself.

Thanks Plugnickel, you have made me feel better about it all, and I did hear him measuring how much my overbite/jet (which ever one it is lol) and was reading out numbers to the assistant when I first when in there for the consultation. I am sure he knows what he is doing, he is an older guy and has been doing it for years! I do need to trust him and notice that extractions were right, and also, when it was getting done and they told me i needed teeth out, i didnt even think twice as I just assumed I would need teeth out, so that has to mean something, right? lol 8)

I am enjoying the progress I am seeing as I took some pics last night to reassure myself I was doing the right thing, and I am feeling really happy about it now (I am sure that will change again in time and a freak out will happen again lol) but that is why you guys are here, to bring me back to earth and to realise that all will be fine!

I don't have Damon braces so I don;t think I mentioned that? lol, I have no idea what brand i have, lol. :-*

thanks for your reassurance! :) :) :)

Oh wow! There has definitely been movement! Looking good

I just remembered my daughter had at least one but I think 2 extractions before she started and it was so that they could fix the overjet. You'd never know she had teeth out now and I'm not sorry we did it (bad parents, neither of us can remember if it was 1 tooth or 2!!!) I can take a photo of her brace face that will be finished in about 5 months if it would make you feel better :D

As for the wine and dry brackets thing, I wonder if it's the sugar. I get the same thing from sweetened yoghurt, fizzy drink (naughty I know but not often) and slushee's (another naughty, again, not often)....

Awww how cute! :) I am sure I will be ok, there are positive stories out there about extractions, I just need to get my head around that it will be ok!

It might be the sugar... I had a V energy drink as well (drank it with a straw but i am sorry a straw makes NO DIFFERENCE lol it still gets all over your teeth..) and i got mega dry mouth from that... I think it is the sugar! I know things are naughty but i think if we dont do it all the time, it will be fine, hehehehe :-*

I continue to keep knocking the crap out of my bottom teeth with my top teeth when I talk or just sit here playing with my braces with my tongue. I am so over it, it hurts and I am scared I will damage my teeth!!
:-+ :-= :-+

**WHINGE ALERT**

WHYYYYYY is it when people ask me how my teeth are and i say "still really tender and still cannot eat properly. cant bite into anything with my front teeth" WHY do they look at me like I am stupid and a whinge and then say "still hurting!? really?" um YES.. I dont know why I have to justify why my teeth are STILL tender... I feel like saying "IF you had metal pulling your teeth in all directions 24/7 your teeth would probably be tender too!"

I am really getting sick of people asking me WHY my teeth are still sore. Really.... isn't it THAT obvious!? GRRR! :-= :-=

do they think i am just eating plain boring soft food for the sake of eating plain boring soft food while I drool over all the burgers and yummy food everyone else is eating at work? ARGH! lol :-+

Rant Over.

Oh my gosh, I'm so glad no one has ever asked me (except the husband and he's allowed and he asks more out of concern than surprise). Maybe you should order a cafepress jumper that just says "Because they do OKAY?!?!" then point to it whenever anyone asks ;)

Lol yes, I gave up on straws. Like you said, it still felt like there was drink going everywhere anyway
