Me again!

It was adjustment day today and all went well. Not much to say but I'm rid of the powerchains at last and have some metal wires to help close extraction sites instead. My ortho said we might have to acept that there will still be some gaps, one gap is 8mm although its still closing but this is on the bottom so its not too bad.

My upper wire had slipped to the left which has been uncomfortable for a few weeks, thats okay now and I have a new wire there too. I have been having very sensitive teeth when I eat or drink but thats subsided over the last few weeks too. My spring connecting my back molar to my titanium screw came of the day after it was put on but my boyfriend got it back on with the help of a torch, dental mirror and hook, my ortho said he'd done a good job.

I haven't had my slenderising done yet but theres plenty of time for that, maybe next time but we'll see.

My overjet is now 3 and my overbite is 1, all sounds very promising :)

Another appointment under the belt :)

I've been braced 18 months TODAY!! :-)o

According to original estimates on treatment time, I could have as little as 6 months or as long as 18 months left to go, I think it will be the latter.

I had a dentist visit a few weeks ago and he looked at the tooth I thought was dead and he thinks I'm worrying over nothing, he will keep an eye on it but he doesn't think its dead!! I'm really happy about that :) :)

I had to do abit of DIY orthodontics a few weeks ago.....I had some wire doubled on my upper arch on each side, one side started to unravel so I had to cut it down with my nail clippers but this left the edges very sharp and it keep catching on my lips making them bleed, I covered it in wax which helped alot and my detist used his file to get the edges smoother for me :) A lower hook is aggravating me now but I can live with it till my next appointment on the 21st July.

My front top teeth also have a small gap between them which I quite like, this only appeared a few days ago.

I'll post some before and after photos later.

Another adjustment today :)

I have powerchains back on (torquoise again) over my upper front teeth and connecting my titanium screw to my molars instead of the springs. I had a clear gap between my front teeth but by the time I had walked to the loos in the hospital after the powerchain were put on, it had completly gone!!

I aslo have springs connecting upper molars to canines as I'm still quite gappy up at the top.

My large extraction site on my lower jaw has gone down from 8mm to 7mm in 6 weeks. Still a massive gap but still closing nicly, I have been warned that this may never close completly but I'm not worried about that.

Everything feels tender now and I have a horrible headache too!

Off to bed I think.....

Hi, only me

Well, I'm still here and all is well. I have a new ortho, 3 years training was up for my previous one.

My new ortho is much more gentle! She says my front tooth that I have been worried about is two shades different from the other one but offered no explanation for this, its not got any worse though :)

I had a adjustment last week, not much to report really but I've got a new spring at the top to help close some extraction sites on the right hand side. This has moved my teeth along so I already have a gap forming between my front teeth, this gap comes and goes as they try to close these gaps.

The gaps on top left have all closed and also the bottom left so its just my right side top and bottom to go and some slenderising here and there.

Still feeling happy with my braces but looking forward to debonding too!

Hi everyone!!

I tried to update my story when I hit my 2 year brace anniversary but the site wasn't working quite right, so today I have been brace 2 years, 2 weeks and 2 days!

I have had a painful time recently, my teeth are moving along the archwire nicely so the wires are getting long and digging into my mouth quite soon after adjustments. I had 3mm of protruding wire on my upper jaw on my last appointment, not bad in 6 weeks but boy I felt it! I think my lower jaw is catching up now!

I also have some interesting wire configurations and springs around my titanium screw in my lower jaw and these wires and springs are very irratating. I have got through so much wax (my lifesaver) in the last 7 weeks, still another two before my next appointment :S

When I look at my teeth now I realised that theres not a great deal left to do. One of my lower extraction sites was completly closed a few months ago but this has opened up abit since, not a problem I'm sure.

The extraction site on the other side (lower) is still quite big but I'm not bothered about it and my ortho said it may never close completly. At the top, my dodgy left side where I had two teeth taken out and my baby tooth brought forward looks great with no gaps. My upper right where I also had two bigger extractions has just one extraction site left to close(approx 4mm?) the other has gone!

I still have a little reshaping to have done, I can't wait for that! And I still have a big glob of cement on my upper molars to stop them touching the bottom ones (I thought I would never get used to that but its cool)

I have turquoise powerchains again, they keeping coming off, going back on, coming off..... :)

My treatment time was 2-3 years so hopefully by this time next year, if not sooner, I will be debanded........yay!!!

I'm soooo excited!

I had an adjustment yesterday, it could not come soon enough as I could feel my lower archwire digging in almost from day one and rubbing, I've got through so much wax in the last 9 weeks!!

Well, the lower wire has moved 4mm in 9 weeks, so great going, quicker than the normal 1mm per month :)

I dared to ask when I might be finished and she said 3 to 4 more appointments, AND she wants to bring them down to 5 weeks apart!!

I was expecting almost another year but now it looks like I'll be all done by summer, I am so excited :)

She has given me elastics on both sides to speed things up even more and I still have a 6 row powerchain across my upper teeth. My teeth are really tender now, made worse by the elastics but I don't care....the end is in sight...roll on the summer.............:)

Thanks Melissa :)

I went to my dentist yesterday (a new one as mine left) and asked him have another look at my front tooth that I suspect is dead. He did a vitality test and decided it is so I am having it root filled in a few weeks.

Not had any pain from it, just noticed the slightly different colour. Its not decayed or had any knid of trauma, he said its sometimes a side effect of orthodontics. Gutted really, I'm looking after my teeth, always have, apart from that they are really healthy but I can't help feeling I've done something wrong.

The discolouration is only mild but he said it could be bleach once the braces come off it it looks worse then.

I wonder why its not been picked up properly before, I have been saying for about 15 months now that its not right!

Oh well, at least now its going to get sorted out. It feels like a set back but its not, makes not difference to anything really just how I feel about having a dead tooth, better to get it sorted out than get an abseess and possibly lose it completly.

I can feel extra wire already after my adjustments last week, got a little discomfort but wax is helping :)

Bye for now

It's not your fault :) Sometimes, roots die because of all the moving pushing and pulling. There's an actual name for it when it happens due to braces, I forget what it's called off the top of my head. it's one of the risks I remember seeing when I signed my waiver. It's rare though, so hopefully this'll be the only one for you!

Thanks for your reply, I don't remember ever being warned that this could happen before I started, however it wouldn't have stopped me and if this is the only negative side effect it's not so bad I guess. Hopefully you won't be able to tell and my tooth will last like a natural tooth?

Sorry to hear about your tooth, but I am glad you were able to get someone to look at it and get it all sorted out!!!

Just a quick update!

I've had my root canal done today and it was fine, the numbness has worn off and theres no pain, nothing :)

Its two weeks till my next ortho appointment, everything feels comfortable and I've been wearing my elastics 24/7 but I don't feel as though theres been as much movement compared to the last few months. I hope things don't start to slow down so close to the end!!
