Well, it is day 89 and I just got back from my 3rd adjustment (literally). I was only going in to get my ligs changed coz they were looking skanky (well, to me they were, everyone else thought they were still clear... meh) and my Ortho decided to do the whole kit and kaboodle! Love when he does that!

To sum it up...youch! I have to say, these adjustments are going to take some getting used to. I can deal fine with the pain afterwards, it's just that the feeling of serious pushing and pressure on teeth which are already feeling sensitive is soooooooooo....#@$@#$!! But, I'm lucky coz my orthodontist is wonderful, very reassuring and so comforting and, to be fair, he always warns me when it is really gonna hurt so I shouldn't complain too much.

My little 'power worker' tooth (I'm really not good with the names) had the metal bracket taken off and a clear one put on instead. Which is sweet. All ligs changed (YAY!) and some serious tightening (the only word I can use for that is ....#@$@#$)

It's soooo worth it! For the first time since I can remember my two front teeth are sitting side by side...I have a school photo from about Grade 4 (10 years old?) and that is the last time I remember having a photo taken where my front teeth weren't crooked!!! Incredible feeling!

I still have a fair way to go of course. I asked my Ortho when he thinks elastics will start playing a role in my treatment and he estimates in about 6 months...can't wait! Every step is so exciting for me because I know it means results and another step closer to a great, genuine smile!!!

My next adjustment is scheduled for the 14th July and then again in late August, right before my holiday to America! YAY!

I will get some more pics up again soon but, for now, I'm heading off to go and get some KFC Potato and Gravy for dinner - it's kind of become my adjustment routine!!!

Take care,
Dane

Hey Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the comments gemdoll, Flaka, *melissa* and Sweet L - oh, and yes, I thoroughly enjoyed my KFC potatoe and gravy!!!

Well, now that the adjustment has come and gone, so has the discomfort. The tenderness/sensitivity has subsided so much faster than my last adjustment, which has been a very pleasant surprise! :-)o

I took some pics tonight too. I wasn't going to put any pics up just yet but after I did a particular comparison with two photos I just had to. I feel like I got a glimpse of what I can look forward, one day. Also, I have to admit that I actually got a little bit teary when I compared these two particular photos (excitement, emotion, realisations, the sad book I finished last night?????? Which reminds me, Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult - really good book...*sigh* I digress...).

Don't get me wrong, I know that I have a really long way to go but for some reason, seeing the changes from front on might have made me realise (like, really actually realise and wholeheartedly believe) that my teeth are going to be straight. For that split second, it was like I felt what it's going to feel like when my teeth are nice and straight...I don't know how to write what I felt but it gave me butterflies...anyway, sorry to ramble a bit there - but I just had to get that out!!!!

So, here's the new comparison photos from the front on.

Will prob get some more pics up soon - I'm keeping a close eye on that upper left lateral incisor - hopefully he will slip into place over the next month!!! Fingers crossed.

Again, thanks for all the kind words and support everyone!!!

Take care,
Dane :-)

Dane, I'm just reading your story and I just about fell out of my chair over your last pair of pics. That's amazing! That must give you a lot of satisfaction seeing that kind of progress. I'm very happy for you :)

Day 105 and another adjustment... not planned, but welcome of course! My last adjustment was less than three weeks ago (Day 89) so it is very soon after my last one...

Anyway, the reason I went in and saw my Ortho was because I noticed one of my ligs had slipped off a tiny bit (kinda like it had slipped off one corner of the bracket, y'know?) and I wasn't really sure if I should be worried or not so I called the Ortho and told them; they booked me in to see the Ortho and here I am one week later.

My Ortho took a good look around and it seems that I've somehow broken a tiny pit off my bracket, which is why the lig looks like it has slipped off a tiny bit. He said it is nothing to worry about and that he doesn't see any need to replace it.

He then took a good look around my mouth and commented that things are coming along very nicely and very quickly. He poked around a bit and put a fair bit of pressure on my teeth (alot more than I what I ever do, that's for sure...) and then said "How tough are you feeling today?"

I knew where he was heading. He then asked me how much I want to get the braces off taken off and then he decided I was tough enough to deal with another adjustment so soon after my last one. As usual, he was asking me how things were all along the way but then I got a bit worried when he said 'Hold on tight for this one..." then, he said, 'This will teach you for coming to see me before your appointment, hehehe". Joking of course. There was alot of excess wire at the ends of my mouth, further evidence that my arch is improving. :-)

Anyway, things are feeling pretty sore at the moment. Different to how it usually feels. He tightened the wire differently this time. He did the tightening on all of my teeth one by one and then he did something at the ends of the wire which made it feel like the whole wire was tightening around all of my teeth at once... never had that before.

Looking in the mirror when I got home, I noticed that the wire has been changed. It's a thicker wire - don't really know what mm it is compared to previous, but it's def. bigger than the last one.

Thanks everyone for all the encouraging and supportive comments. It's an amazing feeling getting such positive comments about my teeth at such an early stage in my treatment.

Take care everyone!!! :-)

Yay for unexpected appointments! Sounds like it was an eventful one. How are you feeling today? I hope you're not in too much discomfort. I have an adj. tomorrow and dreamt last night they didn't even change the wire!! Oh well, we'll see tomorrow....

Have a great day!! :D
