I'm trying to keep busy and not think about it to much or I'll talk my self out of it again like I did 2 years ago. But I think about when I'm going to see my teeth all strait for the first time in my life I'll feel like crying
the happy kind of crying. :D
I soon got over the period of anxiety and sitting in the surgery this morning could feel it coming back. This didn't last long and once I was in the chair became totally engaged in the whole process. Since leaving the surgery, I just can't stop smiling and wished I had done this years ago. Try and stay positive and focus on the treatment as much as the end product, it's a fascinating process which has an impact on many parts of your life so you might as well enjoy it.

Well, a day and a half in, no pain, no aching, no soreness, in fact, no discomfort at all. Is this normal? It stills feels a bit strange but in a nice kind of way but to date have not needed to take any pain killers or use wax. As for eating, it feels odd as there is some metal work in the way and some teeth clash against brackets but I'm pretty much eating normally although taking the ortho's advice and taking small bites and avoiding hard or crunchy food.

Will the soreness start soon when the battle of metal against teeth & bone gets underway or am I getting away with this lightly? It's not like I'm looking for a hard time but perhaps some indication that progress might be made would be good (and here's hoping I don't regret these words in the next few days!!).

In so far as my braces are concerned, I'm really pleased I went with the metal brackets, they look great and I can't stop smiling. For some strange reason, I feel a lot more confident going out and about smiling at strangers than before I had braces and just seem to be more cheerful than before. So far, no negative reaction from anyone, in fact very little reaction at all so all the more reason to smile and blind everyone with the reflective brilliance of my metallic teeth.

So in these early days, I'm thoroughly enjoying having braces and looking forward to seeing some progress. Will try and post some pictures later.

Hey glad it's going well! Glad you are free of pain... for now atleast. Who knows when it'll kick in! As far as sores and stuff, I didn't have any brackets rubbing really but I had 1 on either side poking me in the cheek but it didn't start until about 4 days in. A few people said that to me too...

Any bite turbos or build-ups or whatever you call them?

Fingers crossed you're one of the lucky one's who feels no pain or rubbing (I'm green with envy right now! Woke up this morning feeling like someone has punched me in the front teeth repeatedly while I slept  ).

You might find that you get a little soreness with the first adjustment when they put a thicker wire on but you may not. Plenty of people on here have found nothing really hurts much at all.

Glad your confidence is high  Your braces look good

Tobilei, thank you, I think they look great too!! Sorry that you are still sore, here's hoping it passes quickly.

Beckyboo, no, I didn't get the bite turbos at this appointment. I was quite curious to know what they felt like as I didn't like the idea of my teeth crashing into the metal brackets. My Ortho wants to see how I get on but I find myself pulling my lower jaw back so that my top teeth fit over my lower brackets which, to me, seems like I'm increasing the depth of my overbite which seems counterproductive? Maybe at the next appointment? How are you getting on?

Hi, I didn't get a choice about the colour of the ligs this time, they are silver/grey (not sure which) but would like to have some colours when I go back for my first adjustment. I'm really liking the metal brackets, it's a kind of retro, nothing to hide brace which I'm proudly showing off at every opportunity! I don't think I would have suited the clear brackets and would have been paranoid about keeping them stain free. They look great on some people and I can see why they are so popular. I have a couple of 'clickerty' teeth so guess something must be happening and it all still feels nice and tight so will be watching for progress.

it is so exciting seeing the progress, i just stuck a new pic on my thread, just one month in, and the top arch looks so much different compared to a pic I took before any work or extractions.

great work with going through with it all despite your anxiety! it will be worth it :)

You'd be surprised at how fast you can notice changes- I just posted pics on my story after 1 month and the changes are amazing. I do think that it is easier to see the changes if it's the front teeth especially if they were crooked or rotated- it's harder to see the difference with molars because they are in the back and the shape of the teeth makes it harder to notice the subtle changes.

Your braces look fabulous!! Good luck!

Thank you. I have a couple of crooked teeth on the bottom which will be easy to monitor so will be posting some photos once something happens. I also have some rotated and tipped over molars / pre-molars so will be keeping an eye on them too. And I have an overbite and am looking forward to this being fixed (there are spaces on the top so once the whole top arch gets dragged back this should be sorted out).
