HI OPG
I had my implant( upper front tooth) uncovered about 4 weeks ago and continued to wear my hawley with the fake teeth in it, over the implant button that was exposed.
The DDS made some adjustments to it, and it fit ok- a bit loose, but not dropping out of my mouth at least. Don't know if the hawley option would work for you or not.
Also, placing the temp. implant was the most painful part of this entire process! I had tears rolling down my cheeks the entire time they were fooling around with pressure upward on the implant and then using the allen wrench to tighten the screw system to hold it in place.
Be prepared and go well medicated to that appointment. Most likely your experience will be better- But I wish I had known that it could be a difficult appointment- I ended up staying home from work after the 8am appointment.
My next steps now are, readjusting the temp implant( well medicated of course!) until gum line nirvana is reached, then get the perm set up in.
Zoom whitening is happening next week as well!
I believe I will be done with this process, about the same time Summer starts out here in the upper left corner of the US- July 5th!

I'm finding that the longer I leave my retainers out, the tighter they are to jam back in. Wonder if that will ever stop? Probably not...boo!

Thank you for posting your story! You give me hope, because I'm a folk singer, and I worried for a long time about whether I could get braces and still keep working. I took the plunge when I found both a general dentist and an orthodontist who are both performers and singers, so they know what I need to be able to do. But when I look at you... I figure, well, if you can do it, I'll be able to do it, too! :D

Hey mike: welcome to the retainers club! I don't find my essix lower w/toothus fakimus to be an issue at all, but then that arch wasn't moved around too much. The top hawley is a different story, as the top arch took the brunt of the work, getting advanced, etc.

Foxsong: I'm glad you found my story helpful. That's the great part of this forum..so much information and first hand experiences to drawn on. Best of luck with your journey.

Opera Gal!

I am so happy to find you! I am headed to a summer YAP program in a month, and had planned on getting my braces on this Friday to give me time to adjust. ALL of my worries about starting the process revolve around whether or not I am going to be able to practice, rehearse, and perform this summer. I am planning on getting ceramic braces so they don't show as much. Any advice?

khiten: I think your abilities to do things related to performing, will be defined by how much you need done orthodontically, and how you react to what is being done. Ceramic or metal isn't an issue, as both will show..there is no way to hide braces. Easier to embrace them and go with what is best for your type of correction being attempted. Which YAP program?

UFOC for my third summer. So, a "psuedo" YAP. :)

My treatment plan is having two existing primary teeth filed down and then correcting the crowding they have caused. Upper and lower braces for 15 months. I am in the middle of a big internal debate as to whether or not I should wait until after this summer, but then it is easy to continue procrastinating for things like audition season in the fall, etc. My inclination is to just go for it.

Thank you for your response!

Finally some nice weather to enjoy! Still grinding along, growing bone around the implant. Next ortho check up is in 3 wks..more tweeking of the hawley wire no doubt. Guess they lose a little tightness from all the in/out each day.

I noticed the other day, that the big section of gum over the bone graft site, isn't as noticable as it used to be. It almost feels back to 'normal'...almost, as there is still a tiny bit that seems 'not' as normal. Hard to describe but I suppose that it will continue to change as the graft is turned into my own bone. Who knew there would still e some surprises this far down the line.

One week until my next ortho retainer 'tweek-a-thon'. Really, the hawley still fits tightly, but I am sure she will use her magic pliers to make it impossible to pop into place yet again. <sigh> Noticed on my ticker, it's only two months until I get the implant uncovered..add on two weeks of healing before the impression for the final tooth/crown, time to make it , fit it, remake it <no, please not again>..and I should be back where I started before the extraction last September. It's one long haul, good buddy...but worth it in the end, hopefully! Oh yes, and summer has arrived, having leap frogged over spring.. 60 degrees one day, 85 the next...oh Mother Nature...not so funny!!

"ODE TO A BURRITO"
flour tortilla, so white and unassuming..
wrapped softly around steaming shredded beef, black beans, cheese and sour cream..
spirals of intoxicating scent wafting upwards to tease the senses, betraying the inevitable singe to the roof of the mouth..
each bite brings more wedging of particles into each gap between already sore teeth..
bite by bite, slowly, methodically, chewing with deliberate motions to keep flesh from entering the 'metal zone'..
the first swallow as delightful as the final, followed by tongue probbing each nook and cranny for any morsels left jammed between brackets..
Burrito: I thank you for your nourishment, your pleasure, and your pain..
Adios!

I know you wrote this a long time ago, But I couldn't help but laugh. Because this is exactly how I feel. Chipotle is one of favorite places for steak tacos and burritos and I miss eating them! :(
