Good luck!

Of course there is the old, bad joke:

Dentist: "You're teeth are fine."
Patient: "Great"
Dentist: "Unfortunately your gums have to come out."
I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
But who's counting?

Iborg!! That is hilarious!!

So, I went to the dentist!! Yipppeeee it's over!!! Nothing like a little nitrous before work!!

Two things--my hygienist said I would get the biggest award for clean teeth in braces--she said it was above and beyond what she usually sees. My hard work is paying off!! (Oh ya, no cavities or anything--had there been, I would have thrown my hands in the air and said what's the use!!)

The other thing--I asked the dentist what she thought about two areas I am concerned about. She agrees... :( So, she took pics of my teeth, labeled the concerning areas and e-mailed them to me to be able to show my ortho....I may still be in braces in Hawaii....

I guess the two areas are called my front upper laterals. One mesial side is rotated counter clockwise and the distal end of the other lateral is rotated clockwise. Only a little noticeable, but enough for me to want it fixed....

Anyway, I called the ortho office after my dental appt. and made an appt. for March 5th. (The next actual appt is scheduled for March 26th.) Soooooooooooooooooo, how in the hell am I going to present my concerns to the ortho--respectfully.. :Questions:

I just ask things outright. I'm polite about it, but straight to the point. Their job is to make sure you're happy before they take them off. As long as you're polite I'm sure all will be fine :)

Glad you survived your dental appointment! I'm the same. Cannot handle the dentist. Orthodontist doesn't worry me though (maybe because I know he's not going to pull anything out or inject me with anything *shudder*)

Klobird, well done! At my recent cleaning appt, the hygienist said "You're doing a great job. You should see some of the teenagers I see in here!"

You're just going to tell him what you are concerned about. You can say, "I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but I've come this far and want everything to be as straight as possible." He's a professional and I guarantee he will understand.

Plug that is great advice--I'm going to do just that...I was thinking that I could never forgive myself if I don't take FULL advantage of this ortho treatment and get it to the point that I am absolutely pleased with the outcome...

I still am surprised that I will allow my time in braces to go longer if needed....I never would have thought I would do that!! For almost 2 years I just waited for him to say that we were ready to take them off...but for me it's just different than I thought it would be...MASS exciting, but still I want it 100%!

You know, my ortho doesn't plan debanding that far out out. At this point the appts are called details check, and I could have several of those. If everything looks good at one of these checks he will say if everything looks good at your next appt, we could schedule debanding. So debanding doesn't get scheduled until they've reached some sort of readiness. I know this because I went through this twice when I had lowers only. At my last appt a few days ago he said they were looking good. Not done!

So, I went to the ortho this morning. I told him my concerns and he was very upfront about agreeing with me. He said that the problems are really not that hard to fix. He put some bends in the upper wires, and a steel "O ring" around the bottom 2 front teeth. It was like an actual adjustment--like owie kind of adjustment. I even took Ibuprofen afterward....

So bottom line--

I'm still getting them off 7 weeks from today!! Yay!!

OWWWWIIEEEEE!!!!!

My ortho hurt me    !!

I haven't had an "adjustment" like this in months...I forgot--they hurt! No wonder he asked for the "bird's beak" pliers. I looked them up--they are for making harder movements on wires..........I did it to myself this time!

At least I know something's happening.... Now I'm going to dive into the Ibuprofen!!
