Hey Lyn,
I was not a happy camper on the second day. I did go to work and I was miserable, hungry and quiet. No one in my office knew that I had gotten braces, but I kept getting up for coffee and water. I would definitely recommend that you take an OTC pain reliever before your appointment, preferable ibuprofen, eat a really good meal beforehand, stay hydrated and use wax whenever necessary!!!
As far as the wax goes, just use it on anything sharp. I still use it on my hooks that are on my molars. I currently have a total of 11 hooks and 4 need wax, I only have one of my second molars with a buccal tube and that doesn't bother me, but the 1st molars are currently annoying me at the moment! Also, get some ricinol, totally soothing rinse (availiable at walgreens) use that when necessary!
As far as food goes, keep plenty of soft stuff around and soup, that was my lifesaver for the first few days.
Good luck on your b-day! Keep us posted!

Hi Everybody,
I just came back from my adjustment. I was a little bummed out, I didn't get a new upper wire (boo-hoo), my upper 5's still need to move out just a wee bit more (had a slight underbite relationship going on there), but they wire tied with the rest of there upper buddies. All of my lowers got wire tied as well and boy do they hurt! Nothing like an 800 motrin to ease the pain!
I did get a reprieve from the lower bumpers, but I have a feeling that I'll be back in the orthos chair before my next appointment in 6 weeks for new ones. They were offered, but I decided to pass!
All I can tell you is that I will get a new upper wire on my next visit on 4/14.
I'll try an post new pics later on tonight, my batteries died in my camera so I need to run out and get some new ones.

I tried a power toothbrush but I didn't like it. Maybe it was just too soon after getting braces and my teeth were too sensitive. It was quite expensive(hubby bought it for me...aww, how sweet!

Bummer on not getting a new top wire

Can't wait to see pics!!
Keep smilin'!

Hi Jenny,
Here's to COFFEE!!! As I take a sip right now!
Does your electric toothbrush have different settings? If it does, try it on a lower setting and see how that goes. It does take some time getting used to, but once you start using it, it really makes a difference. I went in for a cleaning yesterday morning and my hygenist said that I was doing a great job cleaning my teeth and then when I went to the ortho, the assistant was goofing around with the patient next to me, b/c he asked about the grading system on his hygiene. Then I said something and she's like you're doing an awesome job with keeping your teeth clean. I wonder why, I brrush them 4-5 times a day!!!
Can I tell you, my lower teeth are killing me. I was awoken with pain at 3am and needed to take something and the hooks on my lower cuspids are totally digging into my lips. Now they're so raw, I guess it's a wax and rincinol day!
I'll get pics up later.
Have a great day!

Hi Dave,
How are you doing? I wish I felt the same way that you do. My ortho changed my lower ligs (o-rings) to wire ties and boy, they're killing me!
I know that they're defintely doing something.
Well it's going to be a day of OTC pain relievers, wax and rincinol. I took an 800mg motrin almost 4 hours ago and still hasn't kicked in!
Take care,
B

I have updated my pics into a slideshow. I hope that this works!
The first pic is a before pic, the second one is my first day in braces, the third is at one month and the last pic is at 2 months.
Enjoy!

How's your coffee? (I'm just assuming you're drinking some...hehe) Is the pain getting better?

Hi Jenny,
Thanks on the slideshow. At this point I'm sporting no pain, I had this Bahamarita Friday night and I become pain free. I was tired of taking the 800mg motrin which wasn't cutting it.
Am I drinking coffee, what a silly question to ask, but of COURSE!!!! I must have it to get going! I went in for my cleaning last week and I was yawning and my said to the dentist I didn't have enough coffee, he asked me how much I drink and I said at least 2-3 in the morning, then he asked if I did decaf, I told him absolutely not! Then he said, decaf does have caffiene in it, I said, but not enough for me!!!
Have a great day!

Thanks for the warm welcome and the tips.
I've never even heard of rincinol before you mentioned it. I'll definetely look that up. Oh and you're right, there is nothing like 800mg to numb the pain. Oh, I'm with you on the caffeine addiction too.
Good luck on the journey. i hope your teeth are fast movers.

Hi Ken,
My toofers are moving!!! I had my first tragedy, my wire broke and my ortho doesn't have hours on Fridays. I shouldn't say that, he does two Fridays a month, but that office is out of the way and I'm not sure if they have hours today. Nothing like doing an inspection and noticing that there's no wire between #5 and #6. It's driving me crazy!!!
Bummer about your pics!
My computer crashed about six months ago and I lost pics that were on saved in folders too. The majority were already uploaded to snapfish, so I only lost a few.
Have a good one, catch up with you soon!

Hi Ken,
I have no idea how my wire broke.
It is my initial wire which was going to be changed on 4/14. I guess that it's going to get replaced 4 weeks early. I kept thinking back to what I ate on Thursday, but nothing out of the ordinary. My upper 5's got tied in at my last appointment so the wire is totally tied in and ends at the back of the bracket. I do have a bend but it's b/t 3 and 4. Who knows?
At least you were able to recover some of your pics. Well I'll be calling the ortho first thing on Monday morning. I'm sure that they'll get me in and as soon as I drop off the kiddies at school off I go.
Have a good day!
